The document discusses various genetically modified animals, including ligers, genetically modified fish, cats, and mice. Ligers are hybrids of lions and tigers, while genetically modified fish have altered DNA to introduce new traits. Genetically modified cats have been engineered to resist feline AIDS, and mice are commonly used in research due to their genetic similarities to humans.

LIGER

 The liger is a hybrid offspring of a

male lion and a female tiger.
 The liger has parents in the same
genus but of different species.
 The liger is distinct from the
similar hybrid called the tigon,
and is the largest of all known
extant felines.
 Color plate of the offspring of a
lion and tiger, Étienne Geoffroy
Saint-Hilaire.

FISH
 Genetically modified fish are
organisms from the taxonomic
clade which includes the classes
Agnatha Chondrichthyes and
Osteichthyes whose genetic
material has been altered
using genetic engineering
techniques.
 In most cases, the aim is to
introduce a new trait to the fish
which does not occur naturally in
the species.

CAT
 The scientists inserted one gene
into the cats that helps them
resist the feline form of Aids.
 This protein - which is produced
naturally in jellyfish - is commonly
used in this area of research to
monitor the activity of altered
genes.
 The method worked so well that
nearly all offspring from the
modified eggs had the restriction
factor genes.
 And these proteins were made
throughout the cats' bodies.
 Venus the two faced cat Famous
feline may have different DNA on
each side of her body.

Mouse

 its genome altered through the

use of genetic engineering
techniques.
 Genetically modified mice are
commonly used for research or as
animal models of human
diseases, and are also used for
research on genes.
 Mice are a useful model for
genetic manipulation and
research, as their tissues and
organs are similar to that of a
human and they carry virtually all
the same genes that operate in
humans.
