Many magicians became fascinated by
magic in a way that can marked by a
particular moment in time. Perhaps we saw
our first magician or received a magic trick or
book as a gift and we then were bitten by the
magic bug for life. Brian experienced no such
epiphany. His was more of a journey, gradually
becoming aware of the art and then later
getting involved in performing.
While staying with his grandmother during
WW2, Brian visited a neighbour’s house and, in
the hallway, noticed a suitcase filled with
magic props. It was the property of the
neighbour’s brother, Harold Taylor, a magician
of note who was home on leave from the
army. However, the case full of magic props
was nothing more than a temporary curiosity
for the young Brian.
When Brian was an eight-year-old boy while
on a family summer holiday in Torquay, his
mother entered a music competition and she
won first place. Brian was struck by the
image of his mother performing on the stage,
conducting the orchestra in front of the
appreciative crowd.
Then in 1950, Brian’s father was
remodelling the home of a client named

Miller Memories Introduced by the Editor

In my early days of British Ring membership, the name

Brian Miller was known to me, but I did not know him
as the person. It was only when Brian, in conjunction
with Keith Cooper, became a joint convention organiser
and after I had been appointed Public Relations Officer
that we started to work together. This was to promote
the convention and it extended over a five year period.
Added to this, in 2015 Brian, on behalf of The British
Ring Committee (as it was then called), approached me
to take on the rôle of editor of the new format and re-
titled house magazine of this society. Other than the From Pam and Keith COOPER:
