RAIN ON THE ROOF

Since the sound of raindrops bring back different memories

from the past, he now dreams of his mother who is no longer
alive. He tells us that his mother loved him a lot and would
often let him sleep till day break and have sweet dreams. The
poet feels that his mother is watching him as he hears the
sound of the raindrops. The poet is thinking and relating his
past and present. Whenever he hears this sound, he
remembers his past and thinks of his mother.
The poet says that every tinkle on the roof has an echo is in
heart. The sounds of rain on the rooftop repeats in his heart
and he has fanciful dreams. The sounds of raindrops on the roof
creates different dreams in his sleep. He recollects different
memories in his dreams; he has many new dreams in his mind
and the memories of the past come back in the form of dreams.
In this stanza, the poet tells us about his mother. Since the
sound of raindrops bring back different memories from the
past, he now dreams of his mother who is no longer alive. He
tells us that his mother loved him a lot and would often let him
sleep till day break and have sweet dreams. The poet feels that
his mother is watching him as he hears the sound of the
raindrops. The poet is thinking and relating his past and
present. Whenever he hears this sound, he remembers his past
and thinks of his mother.
WIND
The poet talks to the wind as if it is a person. He first asks it to
come gently, like a small child. But then, he describes how
powerful and destructive the wind can be. It breaks windows,
scatters papers, and knocks books off shelves. The wind
destroys weak houses, breaks doors, and makes people and
things fall. It tears apart anything that is not strong. The poet
also says the wind brings rain and causes fear among people.
The poet compares the wind to a God that separates strong
people from weak ones, like separating grains from husk.
Instead of telling the wind what to do, he advises us to make
ourselves strong. We should build strong houses, close doors
tightly, and make our bodies and minds strong so we can face
challenges. When we become strong, the wind becomes our
friend, and we learn to face difficulties with courage. The
message is clear: life will bring problems, but instead of feeling
weak, we should see them as chances to grow stronger.
Difficulties teach us to overcome challenges and discover our
inner strength. The poet encourages us to be brave and strong
to face life’s hardships.
ROAD NOT TAKEN
The Road not taken describes the situation of a person in his
life where he finds it difficult to make decisions between what
is right and what is wrong. It deals with the complexities of life
and how its ways never fall into the right place initially.

The main theme of the poem is making the right decisions at

the right time. It offers a profound perception of decision
making. The traveler comes across a path that was diverging
into two and he was in a dilemma regarding which path to
choose. This hides a deep meaning behind it. It suggests that
sometimes in life, we have to make decisions without the full
knowledge and understanding of the state of affairs. But it is
also necessary to consider all the available options and make an
appropriate choice.

The choice at the crucial moment determines and changes the

path of our lives. Hence, the poem focuses on a deep analysis
of the situation before we arrive at a decision.
THE LAKE OF INNISFREE
The Lake Isle of Innisfree Summary – In this the poet talks about
various things. Firstly, he wants to go to Innisfree to build a
cabin. Further, he describes the cabin as small and a simple one
sort of rustic as per the poets’ description. The poet also
decides how he will have a bean garden in his vicinity and that
he will also have a beehive. While describing it his expression
says how he wants his little cottage in the forest surrounded by
the honeybees. Along with that, he expresses his want of living
alone. He wants it because he wants to live his life in peace and
purity. In addition, he wants to live the country life to get away
from the fast life rather live a slower but peaceful life. In the
poem, he talks about various things in detail such as the hidden
nooks and singing crickets. Overall the poem shows a lively flow
of his imagination. Though, in the end, the poet reveals this
image of fantasy is indeed dreamlike. Because he stands at a
place which is totally the opposite of what he truly dreams of.
SLUMBER DID MY SPIRIT SEAL
There is drifting of the poet’s soul into a deep sleep. This is because he didn’t have any
realization of the truth. He had taken life for granted and had never thought that Lucy could go
away from him. The author certainly never ever had any imagination of death overcoming her
beloved Lucy. Naturally, when Lucy died, the author was unable to bear the loss.

The poet comes to the acceptance of the truth that his beloved Lucy is no more. Surely, this
acceptance was not an easy process. This is because it is very difficult to accept the death of a
person whom one dearly loves. Accepting this bitter truth is a sign of bravery. The author tells
that her beloved is now motionless. Furthermore, Lucy is now lifeless. She is now in a state
where she could no longer hear. Moreover, she is buried deep inside the Earth. She cannot see
nor hear. She is now within the earth.

Lucy is within the Earth now. The author tells that Lucy will certainly become part of the Earth
by assimilating into in. What the author is talking about here is the process of decomposition.
When any living creature dies, then its body decomposes. Decomposition is the process in
which organic bodies get broken into simpler organic matter. This is the ultimate fate of every
living creature of the world. Lucy was no exception to this.

On the decomposition of her body, her body will become a part of the world. Moreover, she
will be one and united with rocks, stones and trees. Rocks, stones, and trees are part of the
Earth itself. So, in a way, Lucy will always remain but in a different form. The author may look at
her when he looks at the rocks or the trees. The only difference will be that she will not talk to
him or smile at him or touch him. This is because her form has now changed.

This way of thinking can certainly provide relief to an individual who is dealing with sadness due
to the death of a loved one. This is because one would not think their loved one has left them,
rather they would think that their loved one is still present on Earth in a different form. So, one
can look at the rock or trees and imagine that they are looking at their loved one.
