Oralidad y Escritura I - Watching a film

Approaching the Film:

• Consider the title and any images associated with the movie (eg. Posters,
DVD cover images, advertisements)

Title: Wonder.

• Watch a trailer for the movie if available. What is highlighted by the


trailer? How do they “tease you” to watch the movie?

In the trailer is highlighted the character’s arrival at school for the first time
and his parents were afraid that the children bullied him.

It teased me to watch the movie because I wanted to know how children at


school treated him and how we felt with that experience for the first time.

• What do you know or have heard about the film before you watch it?

Before I watch the film, I have read the book written by Raquel Jaramillo
Palacio. So, I was waiting for the movie.

Opening:

• How does the movie begin?

The movie begins with Auggie imagining/playing he was an astronaut


being in the space. And telling who he is and what he likes, how he born.

• What is the setting of the movie? Time and place?

He did school home, but his parents decided to go to school in fifth grade.

• What is used to introduce the characters and plot?

To introduce the characters is used different scenes with the different points
of view of each one.

• Mise-en-scene – what goes into the production? Costumes? Sets?


Lighting? Props?

Into the production there are many costumes. First of all, Auggie’s costume
is of an astronaut. Then, in Halloween, all children have a costume and in
the Via’s play.

Sound:
• Is there music during the movie? How does this add to the story?

Is add when Auggie is happy to have a new friend.

• Are recognizable songs used in the soundtrack?

The white stripes – We are going to be friends. (scene Auggie and Jack
Will are playing)

• What sound effects are used? How does this add to the story?

Genre:

 What type of film is it?


It is a drama and emotional film.
 Why have you chosen it?

 Is it based on a true story?

Yes, actually, the film is based on a novel and the novel is based on a
true story that the writer happened with her son.

Themes:

• Who are the central characters? What might each character represent?

The central characters are Auggie, Jack Will, and Julian.

Auggie represent the bullied kid and he teach us many things to value.

Jack Will is the kid that wants to be his friend no matter what he looks.

Julian is the kid that bully Auggie every day at school.

AUGGIE, VIA, JACK WILL, MIRANDA

• What kind of life or actions does the film want you to value? Criticize?

The film wants us to value the life. No matter what you look or what you
have. The most important thing is your feelings and attitudes with people.
The good heart.

• Is there a coherent message or moral in the movie? If not, why not?

Yes, there is a coherent message in the movie. We should not care what
other people look like. We have to look at how good person they are.

• How does the movie make you feel at the end? Have your views changed
through the movie?
At the end of the movie, I felt emotional because after all the things he
went through, he got over it and got some good friends and a deserved
award from school for way he was.

He have to be kind with others no matter the way they look because it is
not the most important thing to see how a person is.
