WARNING: BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET AIRCRAFT FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR EYES.
IF YOU GET FUEL ON YOUR SKIN OR ON YOUR CLOTHES, FLUSH IT IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER.
You can do this task together with TASK 12-32-28-281-003-A (Sample Fuel for
Microbiological Contamination Analysis) and TASK 12-32-28-281-802-A (Sample Fuel for
Hydraulic-Oil Contamination Analysis). If you are sampling for microbiological
contamination of fuel do task 12-32-28-281-003-A instead of this task. If you do the
Microbiological/Hydraulic-Oil Contamination Analysis, you must clean the applicable drain
tool and the container as given in the AMM tasks.
NOTE: If possible, Airbus recommends you to do the water drain procedure before the flight or the refuel procedure.
If you do this procedure after the flight or the refuel procedure, you must wait for one hour for the separation of the
water and the fuel.
NOTE: It is permitted to do this procedure when the APU is in operation only if the fuel tank pumps are set to
OFF.
If you have less than 10% content of the fuel, then the indirect water drain-valves will
have a decreased flow.
If you have less than 10% content of the fuel it is recommended that you fill more fuel or
use the suction procedure.
Uplift of additional fuel is not required for the operation of direct water drain-valves.

A. Fuel Sampling for Water Contamination
izquierdo suarez
(1) Gravity Procedure:
A320
(a) For the gravity procedure, you can use the TOOL-PURGING
(97A28002117002) to drain the fuel from the wing tanks and the centre tank, but Lic. No.: 6040
it does not prevent leaks. 03/09/2025 07:12:29
1 It is recommended to use the TOOL - PURGING (98A28104000002) to drain (UTC)
the fuel from the centre tank and the PURGER-WATER DRAIN
(98A28104000000) to drain the fuel from the wing tanks.
(b) For indirect water drain-valves, make sure that the fuel tanks are filled to a
minimum of 10% of capacity. This is necessary to cover the water drain-valve
outlet, so that the water drain valves can operate satisfactorily.
1 Push the center of the applicable water drain valve with the PURGER-WATER
DRAIN (98A28104000000):
a Drain approximately 1.0 l (0.26 USgal) of fuel from the water drain valve.
NOTE: The surge tanks are the temporary tanks that are made to collect fuel that can overflow from the vent lines.
Usually, no fuel can be drained from the surge tanks.
1 Push the center of the applicable water drain valve with the TOOL -
PURGING (98A28104000002):
a Drain approximately 1.0 l (0.26 USgal) of fuel from the water drain valve.
a If the water drain valve does leak, use the TOOL - PURGING
(98A28104000002) to push (in) and release (out) the center of the
valve three or four times.
(f) Do the sample removal procedure at all the water drain valves.
(a) If you use the TOOL-PURGING (97A28002117002), do the steps that follow:
3 Put the hexagonal end of the bush (2) into the bottom of the water drain valve.
5 Turn the nut (5) until it touches and seals against the bottom skin.
8 Hold the bush (2) and turn the screw (4) clockwise to its stop:
a This causes the plunger (1) to open the drain valve. Fuel can now flow
into the PUMP - SUCTION (ATEX APPROVED).
10 Continuously monitor the fuel flow into the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL).
11 Drain approximately 1.0 l (0.26 USgal) of fuel (as a sample) from the drain
valve.
NOTE: The surge tanks are the temporary tanks that are made to collect fuel that can overflow from the vent lines.
Usually, no fuel can be drained from the surge tanks.
12 When you drained sufficient fuel sample, turn the screw (4) counter
clockwise to its stop.
14 Remove the PUMP - SUCTION (ATEX APPROVED) from the hose (3).
15 Turn the nut (5) until it does not touch the bottom skin.
16 Turn the hexagonal end of the bush (2) to 30 deg (30 deg):
(b) If you use the PURGER-WATER DRAIN (98A28104031001), do the steps that
follow:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE PLUNGER OF THE TOOL ALIGNS CORRECTLY WITH THE WATER DRAIN
VALVE. INCORRECT ALIGNMENT OF THE TOOL CAN CAUSE:
THE WATER DRAIN VALVE TO STAY IN THE OPEN POSITION AFTER THE TOOL IS REMOVED
A FUEL LEAK.
1 Push the center of the applicable water drain valve with the PURGER-WATER
DRAIN (98A28104031001).
3 Continue to operate the water drain valve until only fuel comes out.
a If the water drain valve does leak, use the PURGER-WATER DRAIN
(98A28104031001) to push (in) and release (out) the center of the
valve three or four times.
(3) Do a test for the microbiological contamination in less than 10 days, if:
(a) You can see brown slimy, white particles and/or sludge in the sample that you
drain from the tank.
(b) You can see particles in the sample (Ref. TASK 12-32-28-281-003-A).

B. Water Contamination Test
herman german
NOTE: This procedure gives the instructions to find the water content in the drained
sample. izquierdo suarez
This procedure is applicable to find out if the drained sample contains A320
water.
(a) If the sample moves into two layers it contains water. Drain the water from the
03/09/2025 07:12:29
water drain valve continuously until it has no water. (UTC)
WARNING: DO THE TEST ONLY IN AN APPROVED AREA. THIS WILL HELP TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION
AND EXPLOSIONS.
(b) If the sample stays in one layer, it can be full of fuel or full of water. To find if the
sample is fuel or water, do the test that follows:
If you test for the microbiological contamination, do not use the HYDROKIT
or put other material in the fuel (if not water).
ACTION RESULT
If the powder stays white, then
the sample is fuel and the test is
complete.
or
1.If you have the HYDROKIT available, then put the
contents into the sample. If the white powder changes color
to purple, the sample is water.
or
2.If you do not have the HYDROKIT available, then add
water to the sample. If the sample stays in one layer,
then the sample is water.
