K-pop: global Korean phenomenon.

Good morning, my name is Ximena Georgete and I am your musical radio host, today I...
I have a very interesting topic. The musical genre k-pop, for this I will talk about: What is it?
K-pop? How did the K-pop music industry emerge? What is the reason for its success? K-pop in
Mexico? Main platforms?

I will start by talking about:

What is K-pop?

It is a global Korean phenomenon. K-pop is one of the most prominent expressions of

modern Korean popular culture ("Hallyu"), a music genre with its unique sound,
fusion of tradition and modernity (which integrates pop, passing through hip-hop, rap, rock, R &
B, up to electronic music), mix rhythms, styles, dance routines; at the same time, an aesthetic of
color scheme broad that is rarely repeated. and a character design, has captivated the
global youth.

The 'Hallyu' (translated as 'Korean wave') was a term proposed in 1999 by a

Chinese Diary to describe the growing popularity of Korean culture in the world,
carried out through: k-dramas, k-pop, gastronomy, fashion, aesthetics, sports, art and tourism.
This phenomenon emerged after the Korean War (1950-1953), thanks to various policies to
boost and modernize the local entertainment industry and spread it around the world.

The Kpop music industry?

it emerged in the early 1990s, with the precursor being the group Seo Taijin and
Boys, who proposed a music and style inspired by American pop,
awakening the interest of an audience accustomed to folk and other genres. Following this new
proposal, in 1995 the company SM Entertainment emerged, specializing in training
of musical artists, who launched the first band H.O.T.

Through information technologies, K-pop became known in the world.

achieving great success that drove the emergence of new groups like Super
Junior, SHINee, Girls' Generation, and Brown Eyed Girls. To strengthen their global positioning,
the bands will adopt regional musical trends, fused with their culture, with
exponents like EXO, BTS, GOT7, A Pink, Twice, Red Velvet, and others.

The reason for their success?

Despite the language barrier, Korean entertainment companies managed to win over the
Western markets with their own language and there lies their success. Many young people in the West receive
the proposal from South Korea as something new and different from the dominant language in the industry of
entertainment, what is English. This led to the Korean government itself doing
efforts to export their language, as part of the cultural promotion of their country;

For the success of K-pop, the idols, who are artists with...
a style, beauty, charisma, skills, and exemplary behavior. These are subjected to a
intensive training program, designed by various companies dedicated to creation
of image and marketing, where they perfect their skills in singing and dancing; they learn
public relations and behavior before the media, and their image is designed, with the aim of
to become role models.

The international success of K-pop is reflected in the large number of fans and clubs.
It is estimated that this industry has reached more than 89 million followers in 113.
countries, and although most of the fans are in East Asia and Oceania (70.5 million and 457
