A mother at the feet of the Savior

By Pr. Hernandes Dias Lopes

Reference: Matthew 15:21-28

INTRODUCTION

This text shows a desperate mother at the feet of the Savior. They are everywhere.
the sides, they are here. Why do mothers suffer? For their children. This mother,

This is because faith comes from divine grace and not from the family one has or the church.
that is frequented. Spurgeon said that a small faith will take your soul to heaven,
but a great faith will bring heaven to your soul.

A MOTHER AT THE FEET OF THE SAVIOR HAS DISCERNMENT

ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE CHILDREN –V.22

She discerns the problem that affects her daughter - v. 22

This mother knew who her daughter's enemy was. She knew that the problem of
your daughter was spiritual. She is aware that there is a real enemy that
was conspiring against his family to destroy it.

Peter Marshal delivered a famous sermon on Mother's Day and stated that they
they are guardians of the springs. Mothers are the instruments that God uses to
purify the sources that contaminate the children.

2. She discerns the solution to the problem affecting her daughter - v. 22

This mother realized that her daughter's problem was not just a question.
situational. It was not simply a matter of studying in a better choice,
to live in a safer neighborhood and have more comfort. She had already sought help.
in all the other sources and knew that only Jesus could free his daughter.
She goes to Jesus. She seeks him. She calls him Son of David, his popular title.
the one who performed miracles. Then she calls him Lord. Finally, she
kneels (v. 23). She starts crying out and ends up worshiping. She begins behind
Jesus ends at your feet.

A MOTHER AT THE FEET OF THE SAVIOR TRANSFORMS

NEED FOR WORSHIP

His cry was for mercy - v. 22

She is anxious and needs help. She asks for help from those who can help. She does not...
as you see your daughter being destroyed.

Your pain led you to Jesus. She saw problems as opportunities to grow.
to pour out at the Savior's feet. The suffering paved the way for his
meeting with God.

That mother turned her need into a road to meet herself with
Christ. Turned the need into an opportunity to kneel at the feet of the
Lord. You transformed the problem at the altar of worship.

God sometimes delays the solution to our problems, so that we can

we prostrate at your feet (Ana).

2. Your cry was with a sense of urgency – v. 22

That mother did not miss the opportunity. That was the only time Jesus went to the
lands of Tyre and Sidon. She did not miss the opportunity. The opportunities
they pass. It is time for mothers to cry out to God for their children. It is time for mothers to
let us unite in prayer for the children. We need to have a sense of urgency in our
clamor.

How would you behave if you saw your child in a house on fire?
Surely there would be urgency to intervene for your salvation. Do you have the same
urgency to see your children saved?

3. Your cry is full of empathy – v. 22

The problem of the daughter is your problem. Her cry was: 'Have compassion for
Lord, help me. It was his daughter who was possessed. She suffered like
if it were his own daughter. The pain of his daughter was his pain.

The suffering of the daughter was his suffering. The liberation of the daughter was his cause.

III. A MOTHER AT THE FEET OF THE SAVIOR IS WILLING

FACE ANY OBSTACLE TO SEE THE DAUGHTER
LIBERTY –V.23-27

This mother is determined. Like Jacob, she clings to the Lord without letting go of the
blessing. She does not rest nor gives rest to Jesus. She faced three
obstacles before witnessing the miracle of Jesus happening in your daughter's life.

1. The obstacle of the contempt of Jesus' disciples - v. 23

The disciples do not ask Jesus to help this mother, but to send her away.
They didn't care about your pain, but they wanted to be rid of it. They didn't

They tried to distance her from Jesus instead of helping her to throw herself at his feet.
Salvador.

2. The silence barrier of Jesus - v. 23

The silence of Jesus is pedagogical. There are moments when the heavens are completely
silence in the face of our cry.

It's easier to believe when we are surrounded by miracles. The hard part is to continue.
believing and praying for the children when the heavens are silent, when things
seem to be getting worse.

3. The barrier of Jesus' response - verses 24-26

a) I was not sent except to the House of Israel (v. 24) - These were words
discouraging. However, instead of leaving disillusioned and angry, she came and the

b) It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs - (v. 26) -
This mother, far from being hurt by the comparison, transforms the word.
discouraging in optimism. Transforms defeat into victory. Seeks the miracle
from the liberation of the daughter, even if this represents only crumbs of grace.

c) Why did Jesus act like this with this mother? - To awaken in her heart
a strong faith. God acted this way in other times: 1) With Abraham - 25 years to
give him Isaac. Now after the boy had grown, ask for him in sacrifice;
2) With the sisters of Lazarus - He is ill. He arrives after four days.

IV. A MOTHER AT THE FEET OF THE SAVIOR, TRIUMPHS BY FAITH AND TAKES
POSSESSION OF VICTORY OF THE CHILDREN - V.28

1. Jesus praises the faith of that mother - v. 28

Mother, do not give up on your children. They are children of the promise. They were not
bred for captivity.

Faith is dead to doubt, deaf to discouragement, blind to the

impossibilities and sees nothing but your success in God.

Faith honors God and God honors faith. 'O woman, great is your faith!'

George Muller said that faith is not knowing that God can; it is knowing that God wants to.

Faith is the link that connects our insignificance to divine omnipotence.

That mother received through the victory of her faith the liberation of her daughter - v. 28

Jesus said, "Let it be done to you as you wish." And from that moment, his daughter
It was done. Faith reversed the situation. The request was granted. The blessing arrived.
faith won.

Carlos Studd said that faith in Jesus laughs at impossibilities.

Augustine said that faith is believing in what we do not see and the reward for that faith is to see the
what we believe.

That mother returned to her home relieved and found her daughter free.
She persevered. She humbled herself. She adored. She prayed. She prevailed by faith.

CONCLUSION

Mother, do not give up praying for your children. Do not give up believing that a miracle

declaration of defeat in his home.
