The Importance of Fidelity, Text:

Hebrews 12:1-3
The Word of God, a challenge regarding our legacy.
What are we going to leave for those who will come after us.
The epistle to the Hebrews was written to a group of believers
that they were considering the possibility of resigning from
Christian life. They suffered great persecutions and were
ready to give up, but the writer seeks to encourage them to
we will be faithful.

I. The legacy of other people:

A. The Hebrew Christians. (Hebrews 10:31-37)
Hebrew Christians lived lives for a time
that were characterized by patience and perseverance.
2. But something had happened that shook the devotion and the
their determination.
3. The connection between the tenth and eleventh chapters
first is in contrast with the current lifestyle, the
the true character of the Hebrews is that they were men of
faith.
B. The examples of faithfulness. (Hebrews 11:7)
1. Noah: patiently prepared the ark believing in God.
7
2. Abraham: moving forward in search of the city of God. V.9-10

3. Moses endured because he saw him who is invisible.

C. The Challenges:
1. With this great cloud of witnesses who were faithful;
we are challenged to run the race with patience.
These witnesses are urging us to be
Keep fighting, and don't give up!

3. Why is this important? Because others are

depending on our fidelity.
4. In fact, there are two groups of witnesses: those who
Those who have already left, and those who are coming behind us.

II. Obstacles to our fidelity:

A. The inner sin.
...the sin that so closely surrounds us...
'Rodeia' means to harass.
Every sin entangles us and hinders our race.
4. Therefore, it must be set aside, it did not hide!
5. God's method of dealing with sin is not difficult to
understand.
a. Confession: to acknowledge our sin
b. Regret: changing the way we think
c. Forgiveness: to be purified by the blood of Jesus Christ.
1 John 1:9) "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins and to purify us from all
injustice
6. If we fight with fidelity, we have to face the
reality that it could be the sin that is within us
preventing from running the race effectively.
B. The slowness. Hebrews 12:3-4
They were running a good race, but they
they discovered that the race was hardly near the end and that
there were many kilometers still to cover.
As a result, they began to feel discouraged and
decelerate.
3. Two forms of slowness are noted:
a. Tiredness: they looked at the obstacles, instead of the
finish line.
b. Discouragement: they lost the desire and motivation to
finish the race. (2 Thessalonians 3:13) "But you,
brothers, do not tire of doing good
4. We cannot give up... so much is at stake!
5. Example of Caleb: He never lost his enthusiasm for the
that God called him to do... even at 85 years old
age, he was ready for battle.
6. We will not allow ourselves to slow down when it comes to
our service to God.
C. The discipline. Hebrews 12:5-11
The lack of understanding of God's disciplining hand
can make us give up.
2. The natural reaction - motivated by the meat - is seen in
our children.
a. How many times did a little one shout: 'You don't love me!'

b. Or in the same sense: "I don't love you anymore!"

c. Many times Christians react in a similar way

in relation to God.
3. The appropriate reaction should be to understand that God has
the best interest at heart.
4. To accept it as the correction of a Loving Father whose
My wish is that we become more like Him.
III. What will keep us faithful?
A. The understanding of Christian life:

The race that we must run is marked for us on

Word of God.
Others ran the race and completed the course.
Others are looking at us for encouragement.
B. Keeping in view our objective - Jesus Christ:
1. Remember that 'spiritual growth' means becoming
more and more like Christ.
But more than that, we must 'consider Him'.
3. This means we must look at our own life
in light of what Christ has done for us.

4. We should not look at the lives of others, but

we should look at ourselves and see if we are where
we need to be.
C. To rise and work for God:
Christianity must be active, not passive.
The primitive church turned the world upside down
for Christ.
3. What are we doing for the Lord? We are using
our gifts and talents for Him?
a. Reaching the lost?
b. Encouraging the weak?
c. Administering healing to the sick?
4. You are actively involved in seeing the
progress of God's work?
If not, it's time to start.
b. Don't let another day pass without the determination to do it
something for God.
c. Are you saved? If not, come today and be born again.
Have you ever been obedient to God in the area of baptism?

Are you a member of this local church?

f. The time is now for you to commit to the work of
God.

Conclusion:
What kind of legacy will we leave for those who will come?
after us?
Will it be the one that is casual or the one
of determined action?
Years after we left, when others will consider
our lives, what will they see?
Faithfulness or mediocrity?
It is our choice today!
