Review

The Climate Review for July-August 2025 indicates ENSO-neutral conditions in the tropical Pacific, with predictions of La Niña conditions developing by late 2025. The report highlights significant weather events, including multiple tropical cyclones and enhanced southwest monsoon effects, leading to varying rainfall conditions across the Philippines. Overall, most of Luzon experienced above normal rainfall, while the western half of the country faced below to near normal conditions, with temperature variations noted across different regions.

Monthly Climate Outlook and Advisory

ENSO Alert System Status:

➢ ENSO-neutral conditions are present in the tropical Pacific, with near average
equatorial sea surface temperatures (SSTs) across most of the Pacific Ocean.
➢ Most climate models suggest that these conditions will likely persist until the
February-March-April 2026 season.
➢ However, climate models suggest higher-than-climatology likelihood for La
Niña conditions through the Dec-Jan-Feb 2026 season.

Notable Habagat in the recent years
The Habagat events in 2012,2013,2018,2021and 2024 are the most notable enhanced Habagat events in recent
history. Habagat 2012 was caused by Typhoon Haikui in southeast China (it was also an 8-days event but torrential
rain poured over a span of four days) and during Habagat 2013 when Tropical Storm Maring remained stationary
over northeast of Batanes. Habagat 2018 was enhanced by not one but three tropical cyclone systems - Henry,
Inday, and Josie. Habagat 2021 was enhanced by Ty Fabian, Habagat 2024 is due to STY Carina and recent
Habagat 2025 due to STS Crising STS Dante and STS Emong
