 Develop vocabulary related to careers and employment


 Practice speaking fluently about career-related topics
 Build essay-writing skills for Task 2 on work and career themes

1. Warm-up Discussion

 Questions:
o What career would you like to pursue?
o What do you think makes a career successful?
o Do people in your country prefer stable jobs or creative jobs?

2. Vocabulary Focus

 Career path – the direction your working life takes as you gain experience and skills
 Promotion – a move to a higher position or level in a job
 Job stability – having a secure job that is not likely to end suddenly
 Self-employed – working for yourself rather than for an employer
 Internship – a short-term job or training position to gain experience
 Qualifications – the skills, degrees, or certificates you need for a job
 Skilled labor – workers who have special training or expertise
 Unemployment – the state of not having a job
 Job prospects – the chances of finding a good job or advancing in a career
 Career development – the process of improving your skills and moving forward in your career

3. Speaking Practice

Example

One job I would like to have in the future is to be a psychological counselor. This is a person who helps
others with their mental health and emotional problems. I think this job is very meaningful because it supports
people when they are going through hard times.
To become a counselor, I need a university degree in psychology and a professional license. I also need
good listening skills, empathy, and patience.

I want to do this job because I enjoy helping people and I’m interested in human emotions and behavior.
I believe mental health is very important, and I want to make a positive difference in society.

This job fits my career goals because I want to work in a helpful and supportive environment, and keep
learning and growing as a professional.

 Advanced Speaking

 How has the job market changed in recent years?


→ The job market has become more competitive. Many jobs now need more skills, and people also need
to learn how to use new technology.
 Do you think university is necessary for a successful career?
→ Not always. Some jobs need a degree, like doctors or lawyers. But other people can be successful
with skills and experience, even without university.
 What challenges do young people face when starting a career?
→ Young people often don’t have enough experience. It can be hard to find a good job, and sometimes
they don’t know what they really want to do.

4. Writing Task 2 Practice

 Essay question:

In many countries, young people face difficulties when choosing a career. What are the causes of
this problem and how can it be solved?

 Brainstorming Ideas:

 Causes:
o Lack of career guidance at school

o Limited knowledge about job opportunities
