There are many artists who have contributed to the different artistic styles and

architecture that exists in the current world. Those artists are generally known for

achieve great feats and make advances in their specific style of art, which has opened the

door to many other artists to make their own contributions and create new styles

of art. One of these artists was Pablo Picasso, known by many as the father of

cubism. Picasso, who has influenced the world with his art and legacy, has revolutionized the

concept of avant-garde with its ingenious invention of cubist art.

The name Pablo Picasso is known by millions of people around the world,

but what makes it so special? Why does its art attract so much attention? The answer is

simple; their extraordinary artistic talents and creative mind shaped the arts

forever, in fact their artistic ideologies influenced many other types of art.

Picasso was not only a painter, he was a sculptor, ceramist, stage designer, poet, and playwright.

he shared his works with many. Born in Malaga, Spain, he began to show his

artistic skills at an early age focusing on painting in a way

naturalist. I continue practicing styles like this for several years but until

he began to study the fauvist painter Henri Matisse. Matisse influenced Picasso to

explore outside of their familiar naturalist ideologies and experiment with more styles

radicals, which led to several of his artistic periods, including cubism.

Cubism is one of the many art styles that exist, in fact, a great

Some of the artistic styles seen today are derived from the characteristics of cubism.
The analytical and synthetic nature of cubism helps to define it as one of the styles

the most important artists. Picasso, the father of Cubism, began the journey of creation of

this movement in the early 1900s. The origins of this specific movement have

what to see with the change of visual reality and the experimentation with contours

geometric, which ultimately led to other abstract styles such as constructivism and

the neoplasticism. The art scholar and author, Polyxeni Potter, said: "Cubism allows

the artist expresses what Albert Einstein defined in 1905 in his theory of relativity: a

new sense of time, space, and energy in which the figures in motion

become an extension of the environment of which they are indistinguishable." It is said that Picasso

he was influenced to create this revolutionary movement of art after having

studied the art of Paul Cezanne and the highly stylized African tribal masks.

Cezanne's paintings were typically made with different viewpoints, which

I inspire the emphasis on using singular planes in cubism.

Cubism can be classified into two different phases, analytical cubism and

synthetic cubism. Analytical cubism was the initial phase that lasted until around 1912,

where there are many flat plans that overlap each other. The image is usually more

dense towards the center of the painting where all the angles and planes overlap. There is no

a variety of color the analytical phase is monochromatic. It is said that the lack of color

helps the viewer focus on the true meaning of the painting. Cubism

synthetic, on the other hand, was an experimental form of art, where artists like Pablo

Picasso began to use brighter colors, simpler shapes, and more lines.

in the arts.

A famous painting of hers known for its dark and gloomy truth is called 'Guernica.'

Picasso was inspired by the news of the German aerial bombing of the Basque city. It is a

representation of a cruel and dramatic situation and the emotions and pain in the heart

Picasso is depicted in this painting. Anthony Blunt, a scholar of Guernica, says that the

the painting consists of two distinct groups which are the first, the animals, and second,

human beings.

The life of Picasso can be traced through his works of art. He had six major

artistic movements that were influenced by their current lifestyles. By

example, his first great artistic period is known earlier as the 'Blue Period',

which takes its name from the overwhelming shades of blue and green in its

paintings. At the beginning of his career, Picasso had moved to France to

to continue his dream of being a renowned artist. In those years of living in France,

I experienced poverty and the many beggars I saw during that time period.

while living in Barcelona and Paris. A famous painting of his during the Blue Period is

called 'The Old Guitarist', which was completed in 1903. When viewed closely, one can

see the blue and green tones in the gloomy painting of an old haggard man playing his

guitar. Other artistic periods include the Rose Period, the African Period,

Analytic Cubism, Synthetic Cubism, and Neoclassicism and Surrealism.

Pablo Picasso is still considered one of the greatest artists to have ever lived.
