I. THE FOUNDER OF THE CHRISTIAN AND MISSIONARY ALLIANCE

Read the separate (1) to find answers, pages 3-25.

1. On what date was he born and why was he given the name Alberto Benjamín?
Alberto was born on December 15, 1843, in Canada; he was named Alberto because of the
second name of his deceased older brother and Benjamin thinking about the close
affection that existed between Jacobo and his youngest son.

2. Identify the formative influences of religious experiences in A.'s childhood.

B. Simpson. (Include those you find)
Since his childhood, Alberto attended church meetings. He grew up in a very
religious where they did not forget the family altar, where they celebrated the worship each
tomorrow. In addition, I memorized the answers to the 105 questions of the
Lesser Catechism. Early in his life, he became well convinced of the importance of
Religion in the life of the human being. By the age of ten, there had already been or in his
heart a desire - not confessed to be a preacher. But even at that age, I feared to put the
foot on that path because he thought he would have to renounce his "humanity" to be a
preacher.

3. Relate some details regarding Simpson's call to the ministry.

In those days, there was the old and deep-rooted tradition that the ministerial vocation would be
for the firstborn of the family. In the Simpson's house it should be like this. His
brother, Howard, was the eldest and that vocation would fall upon him. The day arrived

tell what happened in the following words.

One day my parents called my older brother and me to their presence and explained to us that
the eldest son had been set apart (as was the custom) for the ministry of the Lord. And
that the important moment had now come for him to go to the seminar to prepare himself
for such a ministry. In a soft, yet firm voice, he told me that it was up to me
stay to work on the estate while my brother was there
seminar.

I still feel the enormous knot rising in my throat as I stammered my consent and
compliance in this regard. So, as if illuminated by God and inspired by a look of
part of my mother, with broken words and a stammering tongue, I begged my
father to give me only his consent and blessing; so that I too could
prepare me for the ministry.

I knew that the household economy could not cover the expenses of both; and I promised my
father that I would cover my expenses at the seminary myself. I already had a plan prepared for
to cover those expenses. I was going to do it through teaching in the public school;
even though at that time I was only fourteen years old.

I remember well the trembling tone of my father's voice, full of love as he gave me my
request and give me your consent and blessing to be able to be absent from home. 'God bless you

regarding?

With Alberto's decision to prepare at the Seminary, the struggles began,

very strong struggles for a fourteen-year-old boy. In a short time, he found himself
forced to return home, a victim of a nervous breakdown. Thus he testified about that
such a difficult experience:

I thought I was going to die, and of course I didn't feel safe in the Lord. Well, never

it is customary to speak personally with an individual about the necessity of repentance of the
sinner. In my anguish, I called my father to pray for me. During the prayer came
a deep peace and I was able to rest for the first time in a long time.

Days later, Alberto went to the house of the pastor of the Church where the family attended and
where the father served as a deacon. He was seeking spiritual help. The pastor, giving himself
accounting, of the many questions and concerns of the young man, lent him a book that dealt with
“Life With God”. Flipping through the book, Alberto found a paragraph that was very fitting for
your case; and that in summary it said the following: "The most important thing is to personally believe in
Jesus Christ for eternal salvation. Until achieving this experience, every work, every
effort in the name of God, every tear and every determination to be good and serve

Once approved, he received invitations from two churches to take charge of the
Pastoring them. One was the Church in the city of Hamilton, Ontario; and the other was from
a Church in Dundas.
The first was a large Church with 20 years of existence.
The one in Dundas was a small church in a small town. It was a half-asleep church..
I had to make a decision. The following way of thinking guided him in his decision: “The
pastoring in Dundas will not require me. It will be easy; without challenge and without adversity. I will not have to

to make an effort; and maybe the gifts that God has given me will have minimal development. The
Hamilton is great and people are used to a good shepherd; and that will force me to
to make an effort to disappoint them." He decided in favor of the Hamilton Church thinking
rightly that would contribute more to his development as a servant of God.

During its eight years in Hamilton, about 750 members were added to the congregation.
The congregation canceled a debt of eight thousand dollars and watched as the brothers
they responded to their financial responsibilities before the Lord to such an extent that the
entries, at the end of his ministry in that Church, reached the sum of fifty thousand
dollars per year - an impressive sum in those years. In the last year of his ministry in
Hamilton began to place some emphasis on the needs of other human beings in
the missionary field and that year the members donated a total of eight hundred seventy
dollars for the missionary work.

In the year 1873, he participated as one of the main speakers in a grand meeting in the
New York City. The delegation of the Church in Louisville, Kentucky, impressed by
the message returned to its Church that was without a pastor in those days, and informed the
other members of the congregation about Dr. Simpson. They established contact with him
and they invited him to be the pastor of their Church. At that time, Dr. Simpson had no
desire to leave the pastorate in Hamilton. But after repeated calls from

9. Describe Simpson's experience when he experienced his missionary calling.

One night, as I lay down to sleep, I was thinking about the need of those lost in the missionary fields.
I did not doubt the fate of those people if they died without having accepted Christ as
Salvador. His heart filled with emotion at the thought of their great need. With those
Thoughts spinning in his mind, he fell asleep. He himself says the following:
I woke up, my whole body was trembling. I felt in a very special way the presence of
God. The dream of previous moments passed through my mind again. I felt as if I were in
a large auditorium with millions of people sitting around me. It gave me the impression
that all the Christians in the world were there.

Standing on the platform was a crowd of people... human faces and shapes.
They seemed to be from China. They didn't say anything, but on their faces, they wore an expression of
deep anguish. They twisted their hands desperately. I will never be able to forget the
expression of agony that I saw on those faces." - With that vision in my mind and trembling, I
I knelt down and with all my soul said: 'Yes, Lord, I will go.'
