WATER AND SANITATION AGENCY (WASA)
OVERVIEW:
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) operates under various city development authorities such as the
Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA), and Multan Development
Authority (MDA). Its primary duties include ensuring the supply of clean drinking water, overseeing sewage
systems, and managing stormwater drainage in urban settings. Additionally, WASA is involved in the creation
of new water supply and sanitation initiatives, the operation of treatment facilities, and the upkeep of current
infrastructure. It is instrumental in minimizing urban flooding, combating illegal water connections, and
advancing water conservation efforts. The agency is dedicated to supporting urban growth by providing
dependable water and sanitation services for the community.
KEY FUNCTIONS:

OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECTS
LWWMP
The Lahore Water and Wastewater Management (LWWM) Project is WASA Lahore’s latest sewerage
initiative. It introduces trenchless technology and a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the first time in
the city to modernize old sewer lines with minimal surface disruption.
The project covers areas from Larech Colony to Gulshan-e-Ravi, passing through Gulberg, Dharampura,
Shadman, Garhi Shahu, and Fatehgarh. Durable HDPE-lined pipes with a 100-year life are being
installed, along with modern features like micro-tunneling and SCADA monitoring.
With a cost of over PKR 14 Million and support from AIIB, the project will benefit more than 4 million
residents by reducing urban flooding, improving sanitation, and ensuring sustainable sewerage services.
