Astm C25 - 11

This document provides methods for chemical analysis of limestone, quicklime, and hydrated lime. It includes more than 30 testing methods to determine the chemical composition of these materials, such as the content of calcium oxide, magnesium, silicon, among others. The methods include gravimetric, volumetric, and modern instrumental procedures. It also highlights the importance of accuracy in the analysis due to the absorption of water and carbon dioxide.

Importance and Use
4.1 These testing methods provide accurate and reliable analytical procedures to determine the components
chemicals from limestone, quicklime, and hydrated lime (See Note 1). The percentages of the specific components that
the quality or suitability of the material for its use is important depending on the purpose or end use of the
material. The results obtained can be used in relation to the specification requirements.
4.2 Due to quick absorption of water and carbon dioxide from the air by quicklime and hydrated lime, the accuracy and the
bias is extremely dependent on the precautions taken during the preparation and analysis of the sample for
minimize excessive exposure to environmental conditions.
NOTE 1: These testing methods can be applied to other calcareous materials if arrangements are made to
compensate for known interferences.
1. Scope
1.1 These test methods cover the chemical analysis of high calcium content and dolomitic limestone, quicklime, and
hydrated lime. These testing methods are classified as standard (preferred) or alternative (optional).
1.2 Standard test methods are those that use classic gravimetric or volumetric analysis procedures.
and are typically those required for collegiate analyses where the chemical specification requirements are part of it
essential of the contractual agreement between the buyer and the seller.

1.3 Alternative or optional testing methods are provided for those who wish to use more procedures.
shorter or more convenient than the reference methods for the routine analysis of certain components. Methods
optional tests can sometimes be preferable to standard testing methods, but frequently the use of
modern and expensive instruments are indicated to be not accessible to everyone. Therefore, the use of these methods of
