Phonetic-Phonological Assessment Test (PEFF)
The phonetic-phonological evaluation test (PEFF) is a tool
computerized, designed to assess production (phonetic) and functional use
(phonology) of the segmental and suprasegmental elements of Spanish speech.
The computerized correction allows the user to visualize the development and
normal or delayed learning of the phonetic-phonological component of language.
It also helps you identify and differentiate phonetic and/or phonological errors that
presented the evaluated. Likewise, it provides a description of the types of errors and
What was their level of speech intelligibility?
In addition to examining phonetics and phonology in detail, it has other
subtests (medical history, phonological perception, maximum articulation rate, accent)
lexicon, intonation) that contribute to the identification of other symptoms and the
possible etiology.
This test is essential because phonetics and phonology are fundamental for the
development of reading and writing skills. They allow us to recognize letters and
their corresponding sounds, which is crucial for decoding and the
reading comprehension. Furthermore, an accurate assessment of the component
phonetic-phonological can help identify specific speech and ...
language, facilitating early and personalized intervention.
Objectives
The phonetic-phonological evaluation test (PEFF) is an instrument designed
to assess the production (phonetics) and functional use (phonology) of the elements
segmental and suprasegmental aspects of Spanish.
The application of this test allows:
○ Obtain a phonetic and phonological acquisition profile.
Identify, differentiate, and describe phonetic and phonological errors.
Determine if the phonetic-phonological development is appropriate for the age
chronological.
○ Carry out a nosological diagnosis (Speech sound disorder –
TSH).
Perform a symptomatic diagnosis.
Profile the level of speech intelligibility.
○ Obtain percentages of correctly produced sounds and percentage
of errors, as well as the description of these errors.
Identify anomalies in prosody (lexical stress and/or intonation).
Obtain the maximum syllable repetition rate.
Profile the skills of phonological perception (discrimination and/or
recognition)
Structure
This test consists of a medical history and a clinical examination. The latter is
divide into four blocks, the first intended for the exploration of the structures
anatomical aspects of speech, the second explores the segmental elements, the third
it values some suprasegmental elements and, finally, there is a test that
Evaluate the kinematic characteristics of speech production.
Pros and Cons of the test
Recommendations
Auditory Assessment
Ensure that there are no underlying auditory problems that may be
contributing to speech disorders.
Weekly Speech Therapy
Implement individualized therapy sessions focused on production
correct of the affected phonemes.
● Use modeling, repetition, and positive feedback techniques to
reinforce the correct sounds.
Parental participation
Train parents to support therapy through exercises
and joint games.
Provide strategies for parents to reinforce the use of sounds
correct during daily communication.
