Protective Alarm Sensors

 These are systems installed indoors or outdoors to support physical


barriers.
 Their purpose is to alert security personnel of attempted intrusion into
a building or compound.

Types of protective alarm systems:

 Local alarm system


 Auxiliary system
 Central station system
 Proprietary system

Protective Lighting

 Protective lighting is lighting designed to illuminate outside approaches


to an area or facility. It helps deter intruders since a threat is more
likely to attack an asset.

Purpose of Protective Lighting

 Provides sufficient illumination at night or during darkness.


 Improves visibility, making intruders easier to detect.
 Creates psychological fear in offenders.
 Deters thieves, trespassers, and saboteurs.

General Characteristics

 Inexpensive to maintain.
 Reduces the need for many security forces.
 Protects security forces by reducing surprise attacks.
 Requires less intensity than regular working lights.

Types of Protective Lighting


1. Stationary Luminary (fixed lighting)

Glare projection type – produces bright white light focused on


intruders, making them visible but unable to see ahead.

Controlled lighting – focuses light on specific objects or areas


rather than the whole background.

2. Standby Lighting – provides continuous illumination in darkness; can


be turned on manually or automatically.
3. Movable Lighting – stationary or portable (e.g., searchlights), manually
operated and used as needed.
4. Emergency Lighting – activated during power failure, using generators
or batteries (e.g., stairwell lights during a fire).
