Preface

Every translation of a rare manuscript like this has a story. The


story is never printed but scholars and passionate astrologers have a
strong lurking desire to know the detailed process behind each work of
this type.
Our friend Ms Helen Patterson once insisted that we write an
article describing the amount of troubles that are taken to finally get a
translation out. If that is written then it could be interpretated by some as
the team is trying to be boastful and take credit and one would normally
not do that. Yet this has a story which might be of interest to some and
some folks must be acknowledged is our main intention.
After half a dozen articles of Bhrighu Saral Paddathi (BSP) series
were published some 2 to 2.5 years back we received a call from an
acquaintance who had been repeatedly in touch with us
regardingprocurement of nadis & some other Jaimini manuscripts which
we did send it to him. Here we must hasten to highlight that this
acquaintance has been referred to by Mr. K N Rao as his ‘young bhrighu
friend’ in his writings. This gentleman informed us in detail that he spent
the complete of last 3 days testing the techniques of BSP on hundreds of
charts and it was working to such an extent that it was astonishing and
thus he wanted to know the source which we could not disclose at that
point of time. However at this stage since BSP was yielding very good
results to many a practioners including this Bhrighu friend of ours, who
have been very humble in making these confessions to us, we must add
that there is more to astrology than what we know of it in the last 1000s
of years.... However this bhrighu friend of us mentioned the name of
Bhrighu Yogavali during the course of discussions....
The name caught Bhrighu Yogavali caught our attention, we wanted
to ask him where to find it but then he said that he has already given
1200 of such Bhrighu Yogavali texts, scanned in CDs to an internationally
famous astrologer, which this aquaintance collected by travelling all over
India and even Nepal. Then subsequently the hunt for this so called
Bhrighu Yogavalis and are thankful to this ‘young bhrighu friend’ of K N
Rao started for creating this strong desire, hoping to find something
similar to BSPs in this Bhrighu Yogavalis. A hunt that has caused us some
pain which would be mentioned in detail later. We started calling all our
friends to hunt and further procure these Bhrighu Yogavalis. Finally it was
SA volunteer Mr Ashutosh Kumar from Ranchi who having searched it in a
lot of places got hold of it in Delhi, he probably paid Rs 5000/- ($110) for a
photocopy from his own pocket and got one of the Bhrighu Yogavalis texts
in Sanskrit. When he called us to inform about it, we were spell
bound since texts of Bhrighu Rishi cannot be so easily obtained, but the
edges of it were badly spoilt and the print very faint. Yet we were
determined to translate it out since least to least some clues would be
gotten. Then after having contacted many Sanskrit scholars who refused
to touch it since the first 2 pages were missing and the later 30 odd pages
had their edges spoilt thereby making the shlokas not possible to be
properly translated, one Sanskrit translator agreed to translate and infact
did some work on it but he turned rogue and later did some things of
stabbing us in the back, this was a hurtful period since it showed us how
bad we were in judging people. We gave up on the manuscript and it was
a period of depression due to other incidents too.
Finally a volunteer by the name of Mr. Upendra Agnihotram from
Hyderabad contacted us that his father who resides in a village and is a
Sanskrit school teacher would translate it into English but the problem
was his father did not know English well and he could translate from
Sanskrit to only Telegu language. Then Mr Upendra said he would in turn
translate it into English. We took the chance and it took some time, infact
a lot of time to get the job done since, Ashutosh took a long time getting it
scanned (he had to get it done on a friends scanner) and then sending it
to us, we would in return send it to Upendra, who would in turn send it to
his father in a village in Andhra Pradesh and then his father would
translate it on a piece of paper and then post it to Upendra who had to in
turn translate and type out both Sanskrit and English during his spare
time. One can wonder if a professional astrologer will be able to devote so
much time to do what Upendra did, would he have the love for getting
knowledge out like how Upendra had. Then a problem came about (this
often happens with Bhrighu Texts) Mr Upendra got busy with official work
and the work got stalled, at the same time Ashutosh was somehow not
able to send further scanned copies. There was more mishaps which need
not be mentioned as it would take space yet they were significant and
caused more pain as the delay of reading what Bhrighu Rishi had
authentically written, as for the first time in the history of astrology there
was a written manuscript supposedly prescribed to Bhrighu Rishi,
otherwise the Bhrighu Samhitas original leaves never come out in the
open.
We spoke to mentor somewhere during this period and he said that
Khemraj Publishers, Mumbai had published one of these Bhrighu Yogavalis
many decades back and to procure it from them, we called the owner and
he was least interested in going to his godown to part with that one copy.
Meanwhile during the Nadi Astrology Conference in Hyderabad we met
once again the beautiful couple of Gowri Shankar and his wife Shakuntala
and told them our problem, they said in an ‘instant’ they would take over
from Upendra (he has completed till 200 shlokas) and type it out and
further translate it. Then there were technical problems with the Sanskrit
typing which took our tool since none of us are computerexperts and then
the rough translation was ready but what about the first two pages which
would give us the period of the text. A chance talking with one of the
volunteers brought a solution, he said it is available in Bhandarkar
Manuscript Library, Pune and he would procure it. Finally he sent us that
manuscript which completed this particular text. There is a story behind
this but due to a reason we do not mention the strange story behind it.
Then Shakuntala compared both the texts and has finally reproduced the
best out of it, though still some shlokas are missing. We had procured the
help of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan and even promised to pay some money to
get the Sanskrit translation double checked since this text contains
remedies for the yogas and remedies cannot be wrongly translated.
Atleast the best of the efforts need to be made. Somehow that deal with
BVB fell through and a lady having doctorate in Sanskrit was contacted in
Dehradun who promised to check the translation but after 2 months she
could not be contacted again. Finally Chandrashekhar Sharma who had
earlier been busy with other texts was forced to double check the
translation and eventually Part 1 of this work is out, after a gap of 2 to 2.5
years.
One would see after reading this text that for the first time one gets
to see names of New Yogas inastrology, the reason behind a yoga, the
past life karma and the remedy for it, all this escapes all the other texts
on Yogas. The biggest joy for us is that it also corroborated one of the
lectures that we had given in Hyderabad some years back wherein we had
mentioned (without knowing if such a text exists) that each Yoga needs to
state the remedy behind it and the karma done in the past life for that
yoga to exist in the chart in this life. This made us most happy when
recently we saw this translation of Bhrighu Yogavali. As to what we said in
Hyderabad at an astrological conference and how Mr. A V Sundaram
revealed some secrets to us, another article that is pending since a year
will be published soon or probably together with this write up. We request
everyone to read this manuscript translation of Bhrighu Yogavali which
presumably is one of the 1200 manuscripts of the same name and as per
the 2nd shloka, it seems to be from a period of Treta Yuga, probably
making it one of the oldest Jyotish documents to ever come out. We thank
that young bhrighu astrologer friend of K N Rao who directed us to this
manuscript with just two words ‘Bhrighu Yogavali’, although this work is
on yogas and does not contain predictive techniques similar to BSP, yet he
must be thanked. Many of you would only read this work and go on with
your day to day activities, our request is remove few minutes and thank
the team atleast mentally, a team who dedicatedly worked on it and if you
can send a Thank You note to them would be most encouraging, but do
remember the word Thank You does not exist in 99% of astrologers

श्रीगणेशाय नमः॥ प्रणम्यकेशवंशंभुंब्रम्हाणं गणनायकम्॥


पूर्वोक्तिंमनसास्थाय क्रियतेयोगसागरः॥ १॥
śrīgaṇeśāya namaḥ || praṇamyakeśavaṁśaṁbhuṁbramhāṇaṁ gaṇanāyakam ||
pūrvoktiṁmanasāsthāya kriyateyogasāgaraḥ || 1 ||

Salutations to Lord Sri Ganesha. Obeisance to Lord Sri Vishnu, Lord Siva, Lord Brahma and
Lord Ganesha. I am writing “Yogasagar” on the basis of what has been told earlier and has
stayed in the receptacle of my mind (from what has been told earlier).

त्रिशद्वर्षसहस्राणि सप्त ---


त्रेतायुगे गते वर्षे योगसागरसंभवः॥ २॥
triśadvarṣasahasrāṇi sapta ---
tretāyuge gate varṣe yogasāgarasaṁbhavaḥ || 2 ||
(First Line is incomplete in the manuscript)
(Second line) However after 7300 of years had gone by in Treta Yuga, this text of
YogaSagara was written.

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

युगेवेदाकृति संख्या जन्मतः प्रश्नतोपिवा॥


ग्रहयोगप्रमाणेन ज्ञाय पूर्व कर्मकृत्॥ ३॥
yugevedākṛti saṁkhyā janmataḥ praśnatoopivā ||
grahayogapramāṇena jñāya pūrva karmakṛt || 3 ||

There are 2244 yogas formed by grahas that are known in astrology that occur on account of
the karmas performed (in previous lives).

प्रथमाध्याय मध्येतु पंचाशद्योगकाः क्रमात्॥


तेषुखेटप्रमाणेन ज्ञातव्यः पुण्यसंग्रहः॥ ४॥
prathamādhyāya madhyetu paṁcāśadyogakāḥ kramāt ||
teṣukheṭapramāṇena jñātavyaḥ puṇyasaṁgrahaḥ || 4 ||

In the middle of the first chapter, 50 yogas are mentioned serially. One should understand
their results on the basis of grahas (position of grahas) from the meritorious work.

अथ योगनामानि॥
atha yoganāmāni ||

Names of Yogas (is as follows)

मनोज्ञा वैभवः सौम्योयातु धन्यश्च भीष्मकः॥


जीमूतोविजयाऽऽनन्दौ पिंगलो विफलः समः॥ ५॥
manojñā vaibhavaḥ saumyoyātu dhanyaśca bhīṣmakaḥ ||
jīmūtovijayā''nandau piṁgalo viphalaḥ samaḥ || 5 ||
Yogas like Manogna, Vibhava, Saumya, Yatudhaanya and Bhishmaka. Jeemuta, Vijaya,
Ananda, Pingala, Viphala are to be understood.

महोदधिः पिशाचश्च दामिनीचक्रदामिनी॥


वाग्भवः श्रीमुखः क्रूरो गजश्च अद्भुतसागरः॥ ६॥
mahodadhiḥ piśācaśca dāminīcakradāminī ||
vāgbhavaḥ śrīmukhaḥ krūro gajaśca adbhutasāgaraḥ || 6 ||

Mahodadhi, Pishacha, Daamini, Chakradaamini, Vaagbhava, Srimukha, Krura, Gaja and


Adbhutasagara.

ऊर्ध्वोद्भूतोनिपातश्च विलासःशक्रमाहिषौ॥
देवेंद्रराजशूलाश्च भास्करास्तश्च विश्रुतः॥ ७॥
ūrdhvodbhūtonipātaśca vilāsaḥśakramāhiṣau ||
deveṁdrarājaśūlāśca bhāskarāstaśca viśrutaḥ || 7 ||

Additionally the followings yogas are also known: Urdvodbhuta, Nipata, Vilaasa, Shakra,
Mahisha, Devendra, Raja, Shoola and Bhaskaraasta,

चंद्रास्तोदारुणश्चंद्रश्चतुःसागरसागरौ॥
भ्रात्रुहारिपुघातश्चच्छत्रोवज्रोजगत्पतिः॥ ८॥
caṁdrāstodāruṇaścaṁdraścatuḥsāgarasāgarau ||
bhrātruhāripughātaścacchatrovajrojagatpatiḥ || 8 ||

Chandraastha, Daaruna, Chandra, Chatusaagara, Saagara, Bhratruha, Ripughaata, Chatra,


Vajra and Jagatpati,

वैनाशिकः कलापश्चमानसो अनुभवः शुभः॥


वैजितोदत्शून्यश्चनंदजीवावितिक्रमात्॥ ९॥
vaināśikaḥ kalāpaścamānaso anubhavaḥ śubhaḥ ||
vaijitodatśūnyaścanaṁdajīvāvitikramāt || 9 ||

Vinaasha, Kalaapa, Maanasa, Anubhava, Shubha, Vijita, Shunya, Nanda, Jeeva in the order.
यस्याऽऽदौयादृशंकर्मप्रहतिश्चैवयादृशी॥
तस्यतादृग्ग्रहैरेवाभद्राऽभद्र फल स्थितिः॥ १०॥
yasyādauyādṛśaṁkarmaprahatiścaivayādṛśī ||
tasyatādṛggrahairevābhadrā'bhadra phala sthitiḥ || 10 ||

As one can see the effects of the karmas, that we can see (Karmas in present life), in the same
manner one can see good or bad results from the position of grahas, of those karmas that we
can not see (past karmas).

सौरीस्तुंगेथतुर्येभवतिकुजयुतोमेषसंस्थश्चभानुः
शुक्रोजीवोबुधोवा भवति यदियुतो राजमान्योधनाढ्यः॥
स्थूलोदातधनाढ्योवरकनकयुतो भूरिरत्नादिपुर्णो
पालैर्यातिसायंबहुसुत भृतकैर्दीर्घमायुर्मनोज्ञः॥ ११॥
saurīstuṁgethaturyebhavatikujayutomeṣasaṁsthaścabhānuḥ śukrojīvobudhovā bhavati yadiyuto
rājamānyodhanāḍhyaḥ ||
sthūlodātadhanāḍhyovarakanakayuto bhūriratnādipurṇo
bhūpālairyātisāyaṁbahusutabhrutakairdīrghamāayurmanojñaḥ || 11 ||

Manognya yoga is formed when Saturn is in its exaltation (Libra in 10th house), Sun is
conjunct Mars in Aries in the 4th house and Venus is conjunct either with Jupiter or Mercury.
On account of this, the person will be stout, generous and rich, has abundant gold and
precious gems. He will have many sons and will be long lived. Also he will either be a king
or will be respected/honoured by kings.

हरिगेहंकृतंपूर्वंतेनैतद्योग संभवः॥
येनाऽस्मिन्सुखमाप्नोति धनाढ्यो राजपूजितः॥ १२॥
harigehaṁkṛtaṁpūrvaṁtenaitadyoga saṁbhavaḥ ||
yenā’sminsukhamāpnoti dhanāḍhyo rājapūjitaḥ || 12 ||

(This yoga is formed) Because of constructing a temple for Lord Vishnu in the past life, the
person in the present life will be wealthy, happy and will be honoured by the king.

पुत्रपौत्रादियुक्तश्चजायतेनात्रसंशयः॥
वृद्धकालेमहादुःखैपुत्रपौत्रादितोध्रुवम्॥ १३॥
putrapautrādiyuktaścajāyatenātrasaṁśayaḥ ||
vruddhakālemahāduḥkhaiputrapautrāditodhruvam || 13 ||

He will be blessed with Sons and Grandsons. However, in old age he will definitely face
misery and grief because of them.

नकृतंचहरेगेहंपुरातेनापिदुःखितः॥
nakṛtaṁcaharegehaṁpurātenāpiduḥkhitaḥ ||

This misfortune is for not having worshipped Lord Vishnu in the previous life.

॥ शुक्र उवाच॥
|| śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥ १४॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham || 14 ||

What Japas, Pujas, and Danas should be performed and what medications should be taken (to
avoid the above situation)?

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

शनेः सप्ताक्षरे मन्त्रं भौममन्त्रं षडक्षरम्॥


प्रत्येकं द्विसहस्रं तु जप्त्वा देयं धनं ततः॥ १५॥
śaneḥ saptākṣare mantraṁ bhaumamantraṁ ṣaḍakṣaram ||
pratyekaṁ dvisahasraṁ tu japtvā deyaṁ dhanaṁ tataḥ || 15 ||

Seven lettered Shani (Saturn) mantra and six lettered Kuja (Mars) mantra should be chanted
for 2000 times each and then money should be donated.
रजतं सप्तषट्कं च हाटकं च तथैव च॥
rajataṁ saptaṣaṭkaṁ ca hāṭakaṁ ca tathaiva ca||

The native should also donate 42 (7 x 6) silver and gold coins each.

त्रिंशत्पलं ताम्रपात्रं घृतेन परिपूरितम्॥


वृषभं वस्त्रगोधूमौ प्रदद्याब्राह्मणायच॥ १६॥
triṁśatpalaṁ tāmrapātraṁ ghṛtena paripūritam||
vṛṣabhaṁ vastragodhūmau pradadyābrāhmaṇāyaca || 16 ||

(The native should) Donate a copper vessel (plate) weighing 30 palas filled with ghee. Also
donate a bull, clothes, wheat to a Brahmin.

देशं स्वं भूमिदानं च कारयेच्छ्रद्धयान्वितः॥


एतद्दानोपचारेण निरोगी च सुखि भवेत्॥ १७॥
deśaṁ svaṁ bhūmidānaṁ ca kārayecchraddhayānvitaḥ||
etaddāanopacāreṇa nirogī ca sukhi bhavet || 17 ||

The person should also donate a part of his own land with full faith. By performing the
(above said) danas, he will become free of diseases and will be happy.

सप्तजन्म विना दानौरेत द्योगाद्दरिद्रता॥


कविनाच कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ १८॥
saptajanma vinā dānaureta dyogāddaridratā ||
kavināca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 18 ||

For one born in this yoga, by not performing the remedial measures, the person will become a
daridra (poor) for the next seven births.
Thus answered Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

इति मनोज्ञयोगफलम्॥
iti manojñayogaphalam ||

End of Manognya yoga phalam.


अथ विभवयोगफलम्॥
atha vibhavayogaphalam ||

Vaibhava Yoga Phalam.

क्रूरक्षेत्रे यदा जीवः सुतेशः क्रूरसंमतः॥


कर्मेशो ना विलग्नेशः क्रूरः क्रूरगृहे यदा॥१९॥
kṛurakṣetre yadā jīvaḥ suteśaḥ kṛurasaṁmataḥ ||
karmeśo nā vilagneśaḥ kṛuraḥ kṛuragṛuhe yadā ||19 ||

When Jupiter is in a rasi owned by a malefic and 5th lord is with malefics, 10th lord or Lagna
lord are malefics and in a placed in a malefic rasi,

भौमार्क वीक्षितोऽधिशस्तदा योगो हि वैभवः॥


पूर्वं तीर्थे कृता सेवा ऋषीणां च पुनः पुनः॥ २०॥
bhaumārka vīkṣito'dhiśastadā yogo hi vaibhavaḥ ||
pūrvaṁ tīrthe kṛtā sevā ṛuṣīṇāṁ ca puanaḥ punaḥ || 20 ||

(and) Mars and Sun aspect Lagna Lord, Vaibhava Yoga is formed. This is because the native
in his past life had served the Rishis in holy places again and again.

तेन सौख्यं भवेत्तस्य धनाढयो राजपूजितः॥


गौरश्च चपलो वक्ता गुणि च मृदुवाक्सुधीः॥ २१॥
tena saukhyaṁ bhavettasya dhanāḍhayo rājapūjitaḥ ||
gauraśca capalo vaktā guṇi ca mṛduvāksudhīḥ || 21 ||

(As the result of this yoga,) The person (in the present life) will be rich, happy and is
respected by the king. He will have reddish complexion, will be fickle minded, good orator,
wise, soft spoken and will be endowed with good qualities.

बहुस्थानेषु दाता च मित्रशत्रु समो भवेत्॥


संतानो न भवेत्तस्य जातोपिच न जीवति॥ २२॥
bahusthāneṣu dātā ca mitraśatru samo bhavet ||
saṁtāno na bhavettasya jātopica na jīvati || 22 ||

He will be known as a donor in many places and will have equal number of friends and
enemies. (However, because of this yoga) He will be childless or the child will not survive
even if he is born.

सतीकलंकमाऽऽदाय ब्रह्मशापनिराहतः॥
satīkalaṁkamā''dāya brahmaśāpanirāhataḥ||

The above (problems in case of children) are because of defaming a virtuous married female
and acquiring a Brahmashapa (curse) that could not be taken back in the past life.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥ २३॥


kim jāpyaṁ kasya pūja ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham|| 23 ||

“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should be performed and
what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛuguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

रीतिपात्रं पलान्पंच तन्मध्ये तत्र मंडले॥


सतीरूपंच कर्तव्यं तदग्रे कारयेज्जपम्॥ २४॥
rītipātraṁ palānpaṁca tanmadhye tatra maṁḍale ||
satīrūpaṁca kartavyaṁ tadagre kārayejjapam || 24 ||
Take a brass vessel (plate) measuring 5 palas (a particular weight equal to 4 Karsas) and draw
a mandala in the center. On the mandala draw a picture of Sati (virtuous married woman) and
perform japa (of the same) in front of such a yantra.

अयुतं पद्मनाभस्य मंत्रं बीजाक्षरं जपेत्॥


पुरोपरितनं कार्यं पूर्वोक्तविधिना सह॥ २५॥
ayutaṁ padmanābhasya maṁtraṁ bījākṣaraṁ japet ||
puroparitanaṁ kāryaṁ pūrvoktavidhinā saha || 25 ||

Perform Padmanabha beeja mantra japa 10,000 times in the sanctuary of a temple as stated in
the procedure earlier.

ततो दानं प्रकर्त्तव्यं नवषट्कं च हाटकम्॥


रजतं भानुषत्कंच दिव्यं वस्त्रंवरस्त्रियै ॥ २६॥
tato dānaṁ prakarttavyaṁ navaṣaṭkaṁ ca hāṭakam ||
rajataṁ bhānuṣatkaṁca divyaṁ vastraṁvarastriyai || 26 ||

(After the japas) donate 54 (9 x 6) pieces of gold and 72 (12 x 6) pieces of silver. Also donate
beautiful clothes to women.

एतदुक्तं मया पुत्र जपांते तु विनिर्दिशेत्॥


ऋत्वंते स्त्रीषु दातव्य मर्घ्यं सूर्याय दापयेत्॥ २७॥
etaduktaṁ mayā putra japāṁte tu vinirdiśet ||
ṛtvaṁte strīṣu dātavya marghyaṁ sūryāya dāpayet || 27 ||

My son, I have been told that one should offer arghya (water) to Sun and the donation as
indicated be made to 6 women after performing the japa.

सवत्सानां गवां पन्च्च ऋतौ स्त्रिभ्यः प्रदापयेत्॥


भौमे नक्तं च कर्त्तव्यं तदैव कथ्यते ध्रुवम्॥ २८॥
savatsānāṁ gavāṁ pancca ṛtau stribhyaḥ pradāpayet ||
bhaume naktaṁ ca karttavyaṁ tadaiva kathyate dhṛuvam || 28 ||
(The native should) Donate 5 cows along with their calves, each, to 6 women. Also he should
definitely fast in the day (i.e., eat only in the night) on Tuesdays.

भौमयंत्रंतुपार्श्वे च धारयेद्विधिना सह॥


एन द्दानोपचारेण प्राप्यते संततिध्रुवम्॥ २९॥
bhaumayaṁtraṁtupārśve ca dhārayedvidhinā saha ||
ena ddānopacāreṇa prāpyate saṁtatidhruvam || 29 ||

The native should wear a yantra of Mars in the hand above the elbow (below the armpit) after
following the (purification) procedures. By performing (the above said) danas and remedial
measures, he will definitely have children.

मृतवत्सत्वदोषघ्नं चिरंजीवी सुबालकः॥


तस्मा द्दानंप्रकर्तव्यं पूजायंत्रं च तत्त्वतः॥ ३०॥
mṛtavatsatvadoṣaghnaṁ ciraṁjīvī subālakaḥ ||
tasmā ddānaṁprakartavyaṁ pūjāyaṁtraṁ ca tattvataḥ || 30 ||

By performing the danas, pujas and wearing yantras to the extent, the dosha (defect of having
a child who does not live long) gets cancelled and the native will have beautiful children who
are long lived.

श्रुत्वा त्वनुसवं कार्यं बिलंबं नैव कारयेत्॥


कविनाच कृतः प्रस्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ ३१॥
śrutvā tvanusavaṁ kāryaṁ bilaṁbaṁ naiva kārayet ||
kavināca kṛtaḥ prasno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 31 ||

After hearing, the remedial measures should be performed without delay. Thus answered
Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

॥ इति विभव योगफलम्॥


|| iti vibhava yogaphalam ||

End of Vibhava yoga phalam.


॥ अथ सौम्ययोग फलम्॥
|| atha saumyayoga phalam ||

Result of Saumya yoga.

लग्ने षष्टाष्टमे चन्द्रः क्रूरयुक्तोथ वीक्षितः॥


क्रूरक्षेत्रेच जीवज्ञौ सोम्याः केंद्र त्रिकोणमाः॥ ३२॥
lagne ṣaṣṭāṣṭame candraḥ krūrayuktotha vīkṣitaḥ ||
krūrakṣetreca jīvajñau soumyāḥ keṁdra trikoṇamāḥ || 32 ||

Saumya yoga is formed when Moon is in the Lagna, 6th or 8th house, is conjunct or aspected
by malefics, Jupiter is placed in a rasi owned by malefics and benefic planets are in Kendras
or Trikonas.

Sanskrit Editor’s Comment: The text appears to talk of Jupiter and Mercury in the house of
malefic, but apparently it is a misprint since then it goes on to talk of benefics in plural. With
Jupiter, Moon and Mercury already accounted for the only benefic left out is Venus. So there
is some misprint and thus the translation as above seems to be right. However the yoga being
named after Mercury (one of whose names is Saumya) one could also consider Mercury
occupying malefic owned house and conjunct Jupiter being the condition.

सौम्ययोगे कृतः पूर्वे मातुलान्याश्च संगमः॥


तेन पापानुसारेण शुक्लकुष्टी प्रजायते॥ ३३॥
saumyayoge kṛtaḥ pūrve mātulānyāśca saṁgamaḥ ||
tena pāpānusāreṇa śuklakuṣṭī prajāyate || 33 ||

Saumya yoga is formed because in the past life, the person had sexual union with maternal
uncle’s wife. As the result of that misdeed, he will suffer from white leprosy in the present
life.

नक्तांधो दीर्घरोगी वा शुकहीन श्च जायते॥


अल्पदाता भवेत्क्रोधी पुत्रस्त्रीमित्रदुःखदः॥ ३४॥
naktāṁdho dīrgharogī vā shukahīna śca jāyate ||
alpadātā bhavetkrodhī putrastrīmitraduḥkhadaḥ || 34 ||
The person will also have night blindness, will suffer from long lasting diseases and will be
unhappy. He will not make any donations and will have an angry temperament. He will be
the cause of grief for his wife, children and friends.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham ||

“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should be performed and
what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

कांस्यपात्रे पला रुद्राः पंचकोणं तु मंडलम्॥ ३५॥


kāṁsyapātre palā rudrāḥ paṁcakoṇaṁ tu maṁḍalam || 35 ||

Take a bronze plate of eleven palas weight and draw a pentagonal shaped mandala in that
plate.

स्त्रीरूपं च प्रकर्त्तव्यं तन्मध्ये चंदनाक्षतान्॥


तदग्रे च जपं कुर्यात् रुद्रमंत्रं नवाक्षरम्॥ ३६॥
strīrūpaṁ ca prakarttavyaṁ tanmadhye caṁdanākṣatān ||
tadagre ca japaṁ kuryāt rudramaṁtraṁ navākṣaram || 36 ||

In the center of that (mandala) draw a figure of female with sandalwood akshataas (rice
mixed with of sandalwood). Subsequently, perform japa of 9 lettered (Navakshara) Rudra
mantra in front of that yantra.
पंचसाहस्रमानेन पूर्वोक्तविधिना सह॥
हाटकं च ततोप्यष्टषट्कं तारं च शोभनम्॥ ३७॥
paṁcasāhasramānena pūrvoktavidhinā saha ||
hāṭakaṁ ca tatoapyaṣṭaṣaṭkaṁ tāraṁ ca śobhanam || 37 ||

The japa should be performed 5000 times as per the method stated earlier. Later donate 48 (8
x 6) gold coins on a day of auspicious star (nakshatra).

माषाक्तं च गुडं तैलंगाश्च वृषभसंयुताः॥


एतद्दानं प्रकर्त्तव्यं जपः कार्यो न संशयः॥ ३८॥
māṣāktaṁ ca guḍaṁ tailaṁgāśca vṛṣabhasaṁyutāḥ ||
etaddānaṁ prakarttavyaṁ japaḥ kāryo na saṁśayaḥ || 38 ||

Later donate blackgram, jaggery, oil along with a bull. These donations (danas) and japas
should be performed without any doubts.

ततस्तु श्रीफलं भव्यं मायामंत्रेण मंत्रयेत्॥


ऋतौत्रिवारं दातव्यं भोजनं पायसं घृतम्॥ ३९॥
tatastu śrīphalaṁ bhavyaṁ māyāmaṁtreṇa maṁtrayet ||
ṛtautrivāraṁ dātavyaṁ bhojanaṁ pāyasaṁ ghṛtam || 39 ||

Next purify a good coconut with ‘maya’ mantra. Donate food to two women thrice (2 x 3)
along with ghee and payasam (rice boiled with milk and sugar).

एतद्दनोपचारेण पुत्रो भवति नान्यथा॥


चिरंजीवी भवेत्सूनु र्दानकर्म प्रसादतः॥ ४०॥
etaddanopacāreṇa putro bhavati nānyathā ||
ciraṁjīvī bhavetsūnu rdānakarma prasādataḥ || 40 ||

By performing the danas, the person will definitely get a son who is a chiranjeevi (long
lived), there is no other way he shall get a son.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

केन पुण्येन हेतोर्वा रोगहीनः प्रजायते॥


kena puṇyena hetorvā rogahīnaḥ prajāyate ||

“What sacred deeds should be performed so that the native will become free of diseases?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

पूर्वोक्तपुण्यं कृत्वा तु कृष्णकंबल संयुतम्॥ ४१॥


pūrvoktapuṇyaṁ kṛtvā tu kṛṣṇakaṁbala saṁyutam || 41 ||

(The native should) perform all the earlier said religious measures and take a black woollen
blanket,

चत्वारिंशत्पलं लोहपात्र तैलेन संभृतम्॥


महा एकार्द्धषट्कं च सद्विप्राय तु दापयेत्॥ ४२॥
catvāriṁśatpalaṁ lohapātra tailena saṁbhṛtam ||
mahā ekārddhaṣaṭkaṁ ca sadviprāya tu dāpayet || 42 ||

also take an iron vessel weighing 40 palas filled with oil, and donate them along with 3 (half
of 6) cows to a good brahman.

मृत्युंजयं महा मंत्रं विधिना सह लेखयेत्॥


धारयित्वातु शीर्षेवैकारये द्द्विजपूजनम्॥ ४३॥
mṛtyuṁjayaṁ mahā maṁtraṁ vidhinā saha lekhayet ||
dhārayitvātu śīrṣevaikāraye ddvijapūjanam || 43 ||
write ‘Mrityunjaya maha mantra’ as per the procedure and wear it in the head after
worshipping Brahmins.

Sanskrit Editor’s comment: I think the word “शीर्षेवैकारयेत्” is a misprint and should
be “शीर्षैवैखारयेत्”(śīrṣaivaikhārayet) and thus the meaning would be, one should
should write the mrityunjaya mantra, hold it on one’s head and recite it loudly after
worshipping a Brahmin.

सोमवारैकभक्तं च कर्त्तव्यं च विशेषतः॥


तत्तद्दनोपचारेण रोगहीनः प्रजायते॥ ४४॥
somavāraikabhaktaṁ ca karttavyaṁ ca viśeaṣataḥ ||
tattaddanopacāreṇa rogahīnaḥ prajāyate || 44 ||

especially, eating food only once on Mondays is worth doing. By performing (the above said)
the danas and remedial measures, the native will be free from ailments.

भौमेनक्तंच कर्त्तव्यं पुत्रार्थे विधिसंयुतम्॥


कविनाच कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुना परिभषितः॥ ४५॥
bhaumenaktaṁca karttavyaṁ putrārthe vidhisaṁyutam ||
kavināca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛgunā paribhaṣitaḥ || 45 ||

If one desires a son, he has to eat only in the nights (i.e, fast in the morning) after seeing the
stars on Tuesdays. Thus answered Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

इति सौम्य योगफलम्॥


iti saumya yogaphalam ||

End of saumya yoga result.

यातुधान्ययोगफलम्॥
yātu dhānyayogaphalam ||
Result of Yatudhanya Yoga.

धर्मे क्रूरा रिपुक्षेत्रे कर्मे पापाः परेथवा॥


छिद्रे वा भवने पापाः क्रूरैभ्रष्टं सुतं गृहम्॥ ४६॥
dharme krūrā ripukṣetre karme pāpāḥ parethavā ||
chidre vā bhavane pāpāḥ krūraibhraṣṭaṁ sutaṁ gṛham || 46 ||

Yatu-Dhanya yoga is formed when 9th house, 6th and 10th houses have malefics, or 8th house,
4thhouse have malefics and malefics have afflicted the 5th house.

यातु धान्ये सदा दोषः पूर्वं गोत्रवधः कृतः॥


तेन पापानुसारेण सुतहीनः प्रजायते॥ ४७॥
yātu dhānye sadā doṣaḥ pūrvaṁ gotravadhaḥ kṛtaḥ ||
tena pāpānusāreṇa sutahīnaḥ prajāyate || 47 ||

The native, in his past life was an evil spirit, always committing sins and poisoned the food of
his clansmen (or people of his own lineage) causing their death. Because of this sin, in the
present life he will not have sons,

अथवा जायथे कुष्टी राजरोगी तथा भवेत्॥


कृपणो दुष्टवित्तश्च कृतघ्नो निर्गुणः खलः॥ ४८॥
athavā jāyathe kuṣṭī rājarogī tathā bhavet ||
kṛpaṇo duṣṭavittaśca kṛtaghno nirguṇaḥ khalaḥ || 48 ||

or he will be born with leprosy or tuberculosis. He will be a miser, will earn money by evil
means, and will be ungrateful, worthless and wicked.

गर्भोत्पत्तौ भवेत् कष्टं स्त्रीयोऽपि पुरुषस्य च॥


गर्भस्रावो भवेत्तस्य जातोवापि न जीवति॥ ४९॥
garbhotpattau bhavet kaṣṭaṁ strīyo'pi puruṣasya ca ||
garbhasrāvo bhavettasya jātovāpi na jīvati || 49 ||

(Because of this yoga) in both men and women there will be destruction of offspring. There
will be abortions or even if the child is born, he will not survive.
पापात्मा दुष्टकर्मा च एतच्चिह्नयुतो नरः॥
ब्रह्म हत्यादि पापानिचकारासौ गोत्रहा॥ ५०॥
pāpātmā duṣṭakarmā ca etaccihnayuto naraḥ ||
brahma hatyādi pāpānicakārāsau gotrahā || 50 ||

The person will be a sinner, will do evil deeds and bear the mark. He will commit sins like
Brahma hatya (killing a Brahmin), go to prison and will be responsible for extinction of his
lineage.

Sanskrit Editor’s comment: I think the mark itself is being born with Leprosy or contracting
Tuberculosis.

सुरामांसाशनोद्वेषी रौरवं नरकं ययौ॥


क्षेत्रे मृतानां गोदानं कृतं तेन कुलोद्भव॥ ५१॥
surāmāṁsāśanodveṣī rauravaṁ narakaṁ yayau ||
kṣetre mṛtānāṁ godānaṁ kṛtaṁ tena kulodbhava || 51 ||

He will consume liquor, eat meat, will be a hater, and will go to raurava hell. By donating
lands and cows, the native will get sons.

Sanskrit Editor’s comment: The donations indicated seem to be land for


crematorium (क्षेत्रे मृतानां)and Cows. This is so as he is said to have killed the
clansmen in previous his previous life.

आदिमध्यावसाने तु सौख्यं समद चित्तता॥


ādimadhyāvasāne tu saukhyaṁ samada cittatā ||

The native will be in a continuous state of excitation, intoxication and


passionate on account of consuming liquor. Also, he will be happy in the
beginning, middle and later part of his life.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,
किं जाप्यं कस्य पुजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥ ५२॥
kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pujā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham || 52 ||

“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should be performed and
what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

रीतिपात्रं तथा कांस्यं चतुर्दश पलैः कृतम्॥ ५३॥


rītipātraṁ tathā kāṁsyaṁ caturdaśa palaiḥ kṛtam || 53 ||

Take a brass or bronze vessel of 14 palas weight.

गोत्ररूपं च तन्मध्ये चंदनेन च कारयेत्॥


तदग्रे कारयेज्जप्यमघोरं बीजसंयुतम्॥ ५४॥
gotrarūpaṁ ca tanmadhye caṁdanena ca kārayet ||
tadagre kārayejjapyamaghoraṁ bījasaṁyutam || 54 ||

In the middle, draw the figure of gotra rishi (rishi who represents the gotra) with sandalwood.
Next, foremost, perform japa of ‘Aghora’ with beeja mantra.

सहस्रं कारयेत्पश्चात्सु पुण्यदिवसे शुभे॥


हाटकं दश षट्कं च रजतं द्विगुणं तथा॥ ५५॥
sahasraṁ kārayetpaścātsu puṇyadivase śubhe ||
hātakaṁ daśa ṣaṭkaṁ ca rajataṁ dviguṇaṁ tathā || 55 ||

After completing the japa 1000 times, on an auspicious day, donate 60 (10 X 6) gold coins,
and silver of double quantity and.

गांवाश्वंवापिसंयत्नाद्ब्राह्मणेभ्यः प्रदापयेत्॥
पूर्णपात्रं घृतैः पूर्णं ब्राह्मणेभ्यः प्रदापयेत्॥ ५६॥
gāṁvāśvaṁvāpisaṁyatnādbrāhmaṇebhyaḥ pradāpayet ||
pūrṇapātraṁ ghṛtaiḥ pūrṇaṁ brāhmaṇebhyaḥ pradāpayet || 56 ||

donate these, along with a cow, a horse and a vessel filled with ghee to an accomplished
Brahmin.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

एवम् सक्तिर्यदा नास्तितदा किंक्रियते प्रभो॥


evam saktiryadā nāstitadā kiṁkriyate prabho ||

“Master, what should be done when one does not have the ability to do (the above said)?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛuguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

तदर्द्धपुण्यतः कार्यं दानं दद्यात्स्वशक्तितः॥ ५७॥


tadarddhapuṇyataḥ kāryaṁ dānaṁ dadyātsvaśaktitaḥ || 57 ||

Perform half (amount) of religious ceremonies and danas according the person’s ability.

गर्भपाते श्रुतौ वापि पुण्यं कुर्याच्चतंत्रतः॥


तदा पुत्रधनं सम्यक्प्राप्यतेनात्र संशयः॥ ५८॥
garbhapāte śrutau vāpi puṇyaṁ kuryāccataṁtrataḥ ||
tadā putradhanaṁ samyakprāpyatenātra saṁśayaḥ || 58 ||

In case of miscarriage, perform punya (religious ceremony) as per the procedure prescribed
earlier. Then, the native will definitely get treasured sons.
दानंते श्रीफलं भव्यं मायामंत्रेण मंत्रितम्॥
अर्चयेद्भौमवारे तु कार्यं नक्तं हि भोजनम्॥ ५९॥
dānaṁte śrīphalaṁ bhavyaṁ māyāmaṁtreṇa maṁtritam ||
arcayedbhaumavāre tu kāryaṁ naktaṁ hi bhojanam || 59 ||

Donate a coconut by reciting ‘Maya’ mantra (i.e., enchanting) over it (while holding the
same) on Tuesdays. Also (on Tuesdays) eat food only in the night (fast in the morning) after
seeing the stars and performing puja.

श्रुत्वानकुरुते पुण्यं तदंते दुखमाप्नुयात्॥


राजरोगो महाचिंता पुत्रौरपि धनैरपि॥ ६०॥
śrutvānakurute puṇyaṁ tadaṁte dukhamāpnuyāt ||
rājarogo mahāciṁtā putraurapi dhanairapi || 60 ||

By not performing (above said) the religious ceremonies immediately after hearing, the
native’s end will be sorrowful and he will suffer from Tuberculosis, Worries on account of
Wealth and children.

कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ ६१॥


kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 61 ||

Thus answered Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

इति यातुधान्ययोग फलम्॥


iti yātudhānyayoga phalam ||

अथ भीष्मकयोगफलम्॥
atha bhīṣmakayogaphalam ||

Result of Bhismaka yoga.

तुर्येशोवाष्टलग्नेशः क्रूरो वा क्रूरसंयुतः॥


सूर्ये षष्टाष्टमेऽरिष्टे क्रूरक्षेत्रे च पापगाः॥ ६२॥
turyeśovāṣṭalagneśaḥ krūro vā krūrasaṁyutaḥ ||
sūrye ṣaṣṭāṣṭame'riṣṭe krūrakṣetre ca pāpagāḥ || 62 ||

Bhismaka yoga is formed when 4th lord or 8th lord and Lagna lord are
malefics or are conjunct with malefics and Sun is placed 6 th or 8th or is in
debility, or in a rasi owned by a malefic or is conjunct with a malefic.

केंद्रे त्रिकोणे उच्चे वा स्वगृहस्थो गुरुर्यदा।


भीष्मके सुखसंपत्तिर्जायते नात्र संशयः॥ ६३॥
keṁdre trikoṇe ucce vā svagṛhastho gururyadā |
bhīṣmake sukhasaṁpattirjāyate nātra saṁśayaḥ || 63 ||

Also Jupiter is placed in a Kendra or Trikona or Exaltation or Own Houses.


There is no doubt that because of Bhismaka yoga, the native will be happy
and wealthy.

पूर्वं तीर्थे कृता सेवा ऋषीणां च पुनः पुनः।


देवार्चनं द्विजे भक्तिः कृता तेनात्र जन्मनि॥ ६४॥
pūrvaṁ tīrthe kṛutā sevā ṛṣīṇāṁ ca punaḥ punaḥ |
devārcanaṁ dvije bhaktiḥ kṛutā tenātra janmani || 64 ||

The native, having served rishis in sacred places again and again in his
past life, in the present life, will perform deva archana (worship gods) and
will be devoted to Brahmins.

सुखी सुकर्मकृच्चैव धर्मिष्टो बहुपुत्रवान्॥


बहुस्त्रीभिःसमं भोगी बुद्दिमांश्च विचक्षणः॥ ६५॥
sukhī sukarmakṛccaiva dharmiṣṭo bahuputravān ||
bahustrībhiḥsamaṁ bhogī buddimāṁśca vicakṣaṇaḥ || 65 ||

He will also be happy, will do good deeds, will be very religious and have
many sons. He will enjoy (the company of) many women, will be
intelligent and wise.
मनः स्वस्थो भवेद्दाता धनाढ्यो धनिनां पतिः॥
त्रिंशद्वर्षे गते नूनं महासौख्यं प्रजायते॥ ६६॥
manaḥ svastho bhaveddātā dhanāḍhyo dhanināṁ patiḥ ||
triṁśadvarṣe gate nūnaṁ mahāsaukhyaṁ prajāyate || 66 ||

He will have healthy thoughts, will be a daata (donor), will be wealthy and
be like lord among the rich. Completion of 30 years, will bring forth great
pleasures on him.

राजा वा राजमान्यो वा कुबेरेण समो भवेत्॥


चत्वारिंशद्गते वर्षे ततः पीडा प्रजायते॥ ६७॥
rājā vā rājamānyo vā kubereṇa samo bhavet ||
catvāriṁśadgate varṣe tataḥ pīḍā prajāyate || 67 ||

He will be a king or will be recognized as a king, or will be equal to Kubera


(Hindu god of wealth). After completion of 40 years, he will start
experiencing hardships.

रक्तवातोद्भवापीडा राजयोगः प्रवर्तते॥


कासश्वासादिरोगाणां जायते च मुहुमुर्हुः॥ ६८॥
raktavātodbhavāpīḍā rājayogaḥ pravartate ||
kāsaśvāsādirogāṇāṁ jāyate ca muhumurhuḥ || 68 ||

The native will suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and he will also get
tuberculosis. He will suffer from cough and other respiratory diseases
frequently.

क्षणे कष्टं क्षणे सौख़्यं क्षीणांगोजायते नरः॥


kṣaṇe kaṣṭaṁ kṣaṇe sauyaṁ kṣīṇāṁgojāyate naraḥ ||

He will experience troubles in at one time and comforts at another. He will


have a sickly or weak body and will also start deteriorating.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||
Sukra asked,

केन कर्मविपाकेन एष रोगी प्रजायते॥ ६९॥


kena karmavipākena eṣa rogī prajāyate || 69 ||

What maturing of karmas brought forth the ailments?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

पूर्वं गोत्रवधं कृत्वा साध्वी च स्त्री कलंकिता॥


इह जन्मनि तैः पापै राजरोगी भवेन्नरः॥ ७०॥
pūrvaṁ gotravadhaṁ kṛtvā sādhvī ca strī kalaṁkitā ||
iha janmani taiḥ pāpai rājarogī bhavennaraḥ || 70 ||

On account of killing people of his lineage and defaming virtuous woman


(i.e., seducing her) , the person in the present life will become sinful and
suffer from tuberculosis.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham||

“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should
be performed and what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||
Bhrigu said,

यंत्रं श्रीपद्मनाभस्य भूर्जपत्रे च लेखयेत्॥ ७१॥


yaṁtraṁ śrīpadmanābhasya bhūrjapatre ca lekhayet || 71 ||

Draw a ‘Sri Padmanabha’ yantra on a birch leaf.

यक्षकर्दमसंयुक्तं गंधपुष्पै प्रपूजयेत्॥


ऊर्णापट्टं हरिद्वर्णं तंडुलैः सम्पुटीकृतम्॥ ७२॥
yakṣakardamasaṁyuktaṁ gaṁdhapuṣpai prapūjayet ||
ūrṇāpaṭṭaṁ haridvarṇaṁ taṁḍulaiḥ sampuṭīkṛtam || 72 ||

Worship (the above yantra) with perfumed paste (consisting of musk,


camphor, kakkola etc.), sandalwood, flowers. Take a woollen cloth and
fold the same (as a casket) along with yellow coloured rice grains.

तस्योपरि समासीनमयुतं कारयेज्जपम्॥


पद्मनाभस्य बीजस्य कारयेद्विधिसंयुतम् ॥ ७३॥
tasyopari samāsīnamayutaṁ kārayejjapam ||
padmanābhasya bījasya kārayedvidhisaṁyutam || 73 ||

Later, sit and perform japa of ‘Padmanabha’ beeja mantra uninterruptedly


according to the procedure in front of that yantra.

पट्टवस्त्रं परीधाय पूर्वोक्तविधिना सह॥


ततो दानं प्रकर्तव्यं पदं षोडशहाटकम्॥ ७४॥
paṭṭavastraṁ parīdhāya pūrvoktavidhinā saha ||
tato dānaṁ prakartavyaṁ padaṁ ṣoḍaśahāṭakam || 74 ||

Perform the earlier said procedures wearing a woven silk garment and
thereafter donate a quarter of 16 gold coins (i.e., 4 gold coins)

रजतं द्विगुणं देयं वस्त्राण्य ष्टोत्तरं शतम्॥


rajataṁ dviguṇaṁ deyaṁ vastrāṇya ṣṭottaraṁ śatam ||

Also donate double quantity of silver coins and 108 other clothes.

ताम्रपात्राण्येककर्षप्रमितानि घृतेन च॥
पूरयित्वा च चत्वारि ब्राह्मणेभ्यः प्रदापयेत्॥ ७५॥
tāmrapātrāṇyekakarṣapramitāni ghṛtena ca ||
pūrayitvā ca catvāri brāhmaṇebhyaḥ pradāpayet || 75 ||

Take a copper vessel of one karsha weight (approximately one tola) filled
with ghee, and donate to each of four Brahmins,

ततः प्रदद्यात्पूपान्नं गोधूमतण्डुलयुतम्॥


माषान्नसंयुतंतात कर्षविंशतिविंशति॥ ७६॥
tataḥ pradadyātpūpānnaṁ godhūmataṇḍulayutam ||
māṣānnasaṁyutaṁtāta karṣaviṁśativiṁśati || 76 ||

Thereafter, donate food that includes bread, cooked rice and wheat, rice
cooked with black gram (to the above Brahmins) equal to 400 karshas of
weight

एतद्दानं तु कृत्वा च दक्षिणां च प्रदापयेत्॥


एवं च विधिवद्दानं कारयेच्छ्रद्धयान्वितः॥ ७७॥
etaddānaṁ tu kṛtvā ca dakṣiṇāṁ ca pradāpayet ||
evaṁ ca vidhivaddānaṁ kārayecchraddhayānvitaḥ || 77 ||

After donating food, also give dakshina (remuneration/fee) according to


procedure with full faith.

नश्यंति व्याधयः सर्वे पूर्व पापं च नश्यति॥


पद्मनाभस्य यो मंत्रं बाहौ शिरसि धारयेत्॥ ७८॥
naśyaṁti vyādhayaḥ sarve pūrva pāpaṁ ca naśyati ||
padmanābhasya yo maṁtraṁ bāhau śirasi dhārayet || 78 ||
All the diseases and earlier sins will be destroyed. The native should wear
‘Padmanabha’ mantra on the arms or head (on the headgear).

एतद्दानेषु चीर्णेषु पीडामुक्तो नरो भवेत्॥


कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ ७९॥
etaddāneṣu cīrṇeṣu pīḍāmukto naro bhavet ||
kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 79 ||

By observing the danas (donations) the person will become free of


ailments. Thus spoke Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

इति भीष्मकयोगफलम्॥
iti bhīṣmakayogaphalam

End of Bhismaka yoga phalam.

अथ जीमूत योग फलम्॥


atha jīmūta yoga phalam ||

Results of Jimuta yoga.

व्यये वा चाष्टमे क्रूराः क्षेत्रेशो द्वादशे यदा॥


कर्मे सौम्या धने क्रूरा जीमूते च सुखं भवेत्॥ ८०॥
vyaye vā cāṣṭame krūrāḥ kṣetreśo dvādaśe yadā ||
karme saumyā dhane krūrā jīmūte ca sukhaṁ bhavet || 80 ||

If malefics occupy 8th house or 12th house, Lagna Lord is in 12th house and
benefics occupy 10th house, while malefics occupy 2nd house, Jimuta yoga
is formed. This yoga gives happiness/comforts to the native.

पूर्वं गंगातटे चैव् रुद्रसेवा कृता बहु॥


इह जन्मनि तेनाऽसौपित्ताधिक्यो भवेन्नरः॥ ८१॥
pūrvaṁ gaṁgātaṭe caiv rudrasevā kṛtā bahu ||
iha janmani tenā'sau pittādhikyo bhavennaraḥ || 81 ||
The native, in his past life, has performed Lord Shiva’s puja a lot on the
banks of River Ganga. He will be born with bilious nature (pitta) in the
present life.

दाता चैव च भोक्ता च राजमान्यो गुणाधिकः॥


परोपकारी धर्मात्मा कीर्तिमान्धनवांस्तथा॥ ८२॥
dātā caiva ca bhoktā ca rājamānyo guṇādhikaḥ ||
paropakārī dharmātmā kīrtimāndhanavāṁstathā || 82 ||

He will be pure and generous, feeds others, enjoys luxuries, is respected


by the king and is endowed with good qualities. He is benevolent to
others, virtuous, famous and rich.

षोडशाब्दे तथा विंशे सौख्यमात्मबलैर्भवेत्॥


गजवाजिधनैर्युक्तो राजा वा राजमंत्रिकः॥ ८३॥
ṣoḍaśābde tathā viṁśe saukhyamātmabalairbhavet ||
gajavājidhanairyukto rājā vā rājamaṁtrikaḥ || 83 ||

In his 16th and 20th years, a person will with his own inherent effort (atma
bala) earn happiness, elephants, horses and riches. He may become a
king or a minister.

रुद्रसेवानुसारेण एवंभूतो भवेन्नरः॥


rudrasevānusāreṇa evaṁbhūto bhavennaraḥ ||

(the above results) are obtained in accordance with the Rudra Puja
performed by a person in his past life.

तपस्वि निंदितः पूर्वं तस्माद्धीनं फलं भवेत्॥ ८४॥


tapasvi niṁditaḥ pūrvaṁ tasmāddhīnaṁ phalaṁ bhavet || 84 ||

(However,) On account of abusing an acetic in the past life, in the present


life the native will have long lasting misery.
चिंता च जायते तस्य सौख्यं चाल्पधनात्मजाः॥
सुमुखोऽपि ह्रुदासीनस्त्वकस्माज्जायते ध्रुवम्॥ ८५॥
ciṁtā ca jāyate tasya saukhyaṁ cālpadhanātmajāḥ ||
sumukho'pi hrudāsīnastvakasmājjāyate dhruvam || 85 ||

The native will have worries, little happiness, less wealth and less number
of sons. Though cheerful, he will certainly feel suddenly dejected.

षड्विंशद्वाऽपिचत्वारिंशद्वषेदीर्घवेदना॥
उदरे वा करे पादे जायते नात्र संशयः॥ ८६॥
ṣaḍviṁśadvā'picatvāriṁśadvaṣedīrghavedanā ||
udare vā kare pāde jāyate nātra saṁśayaḥ || 86 ||

The person will definitely suffer from prolonged pain in stomach or hands
and feet in his 26th and 40th years.

शुक्र् उवाच॥
śukr uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham ||

(for relief) what Japas, Pujas and Danas should be performed and what
medicines should be taken?

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

रीतिं वा ताम्रपात्रं वा चतुर्दशपलोद्भवम्॥ ८७॥


rītiṁ vā tāmrapātraṁ vā caturdaśapalodbhavam || 87 ||
Take either Brass (peetal) or Copper plate of fourteen palas (a
measurement of weight) weight.

कृत्वा तस्मिन्प्रकर्तव्यं चन्दनान्नवमंडलम्॥


तपस्विरूपं तन्मध्ये कृत्वा पूजां च कारयेत्॥ ८८॥
kṛtvā tasminprakartavyaṁ candanānnavamaṁḍalam ||
tapasvirūpaṁ tanmadhye kṛtvā pūjāṁ ca kārayet || 88 ||

(in the above plate) draw fresh (new) nine circles (diagram) with sandal
paste, draw an acetic’s figure in the middle (of the 9 circles) and perform
Puja.

ऊर्णा पट्टं च वर्द्धेतपुटाद्वादश कारयेत्॥


तस्योपरि समासीनो रुद्रमंत्रं नवत्रिकम्॥ ८९॥
ūrṇā paṭṭaṁ ca varddhetapuṭādvādaśa kārayet ||
tasyopari samāsīno rudramaṁtraṁ navatrikam || 89 ||

Make a mat by folding a woollen cloth twelve times, sit on it and chant
Rudra Mantra 27 times (9 x 3).

द्विसहस्रं चरेजप्यं ततः पुण्यं समाचरेत्॥


भद्रान्नहाटकाः सप्त तिलान्नस्यापिसप्तच॥ ९०॥
dvisahasraṁ carejapyaṁ tataḥ puṇyaṁ samācaret ||
bhadrānnahāṭakāḥ sapta tilānnasyāpisaptaca || 90 ||

The person should, after completing the (above said) Japa 2000 times,
perform the same amount of religious ceremonies (punyam). He has to
take seven gold plates of good rice grains and also rice cooked with
seseme,

मुहुर्गोधूम माषान्नतंडुलं तैलसंयुतम्॥


प्रस्थद्वयं प्रदातव्यं मुद्रा अष्टोतरं शतम्॥ ९१॥
muhurgodhūma māṣānnataṁḍulaṁ tailasaṁyutam ||
prasthadvayaṁ pradātavyaṁ mudrā aṣṭotaraṁ śatam || 91 ||
(and along with the above) The person should often donate wheat, rice
grains, rice cooked with blackgram along with oil equal to the weight of
two prasthas (a measure of capacity: 1 prastha = 32 palas) along with
108 coins.

एतद्दानानुसारेण चिंताकष्टं विनश्यति॥


दानाभावे महाकष्टं पुत्रैरपि धनैरपि॥ ९२॥
etaddāanānusāreṇa ciṁtākaṣṭaṁ vinaśyati ||
dānābhāve mahākaṣṭaṁ putrairapi dhanairapi || 92 ||

In accordance to the sincerity with which the Danas (donations) are


performed, the person’s grieves, worries will perish. In the absence Danas
(donations), he will face huge worries from children and also on account of
finances.

कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ ९३॥


kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 93 ||

Thus, Bhrigu answered to Sukra’s questions.

इति जीमूत योग फलम्॥


iti jīmūta yoga phalam ||

अथ विजय योग फलम्॥


atha vijaya yoga phalam ||

result of vijaya yoga .

संतानेशो रिपुक्षेत्रे षष्ठाष्टद्वादशेऽपरे ॥


सुतेशः क्रूरसंयुक्तोऽथवा क्रूरेण वीक्षितः॥ ९४॥
saṁtāneśo ripukṣetre ṣaṣṭhāṣṭadvādaśe'pare ||
suteśaḥ krūrasaṁyukto'thavā krūreṇa vīkṣitaḥ || 94 ||
Vijaya yoga is formed when the 5th lord is in an enemy’s rasi or is in
6th, 8th or 12th house, and if he is in conjunction with or is aspected by
malefics.

पूर्वं सगर्भा हरिणी मारिता मृगसंयुता॥


एतद्विजययोगेन रक्षिता हरिणी सुता॥ ९५॥
pūrvaṁ sagarbhā hariṇī māritā mṛgasaṁyutā ||
etadvijayayogena rakṣitā hariṇī sutā || 95 ||

In the past, a pregnant deer was killed along with the male deer. However,
because of vijaya yoga the baby deer was saved.

न भवंति सुतास्तस्य जाता जीवंति नैवच॥


कन्याद्वयं त्रयं वापि जायते नात्र संशयः॥ ९६॥
na bhavaṁti sutāstasya jātā jīvaṁti naīvaca ||
kanyādvayaṁ trayaṁ vāpi jāyate nātra saṁśayaḥ || 96 ||

The native with Vijaya yoga will definitely have either two or three female
issues. Any more than that, they will not survive.

आदौ पुत्री ततः पुत्रस्ततः पुत्री प्रजायते॥


शेषे गर्भे भवेत्तस्य गर्भस्रावो न संशयः॥ ९७॥
ādau putrī tataḥ putrastataḥ putrī prajāyate ||
śeṣe garbhe bhavettasya garbhasrāvo na saṁśayaḥ || 97 ||

To the native, first a girl child followed by a boy child and then a girl child
will be born. Without doubt for the rest (of the pregnancies) there will be
miscarriages.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,
किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥
kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham ||

What japas, pujas and danas should be done as remedies and what
medicines should be taken (to overcome the above)?

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu told,

रीतिं वा ताम्रपात्रंच पलं चैव चतुर्दशम्॥९८॥


rītiṁ vā tāmrapātraṁca palaṁ caiva caturdaśam || 98 ||

Take a brass or copper plate (vessel) weighing 14 palas.

तन्मध्ये चंदनौः कार्यं पद्ममष्टदलं तथा॥


तदंतः कारयेज्जाप्यं पद्मनाभस्य बीजकम्॥ ९९॥
tanmadhye caṁdanauḥ kāryaṁ padmamaṣṭadalaṁ tathā ||
tadaṁtaḥ kārayejjāpyaṁ padmanābhasya bījakam || 99 ||

In the middle (of the plate) draw an astadala Padma (8 petalled lotus) with
sandalwood paste.
Later, perform Padmanabha beeja mantra japam.

द्वेसहस्र कृतायामो भक्तिश्रद्धा समन्वितः॥


ततो दानं च कर्त्तव्यं षड्वा षोडश हाटकम्॥ १००॥
dvesahasra kṛtāyāmo bhaktiśraddhā samanvitaḥ ||
tato dānaṁ ca karttavyaṁ ṣaḍvā ṣoḍaśa hāṭakam || 100 ||

(The above said japa) chant the mantra atleast two thousand times with
faith and devotion. After completion, donate either six or sixteen gold
coins.
श्वेत्ं वाप्यथवा नीलं भव्याश्वं च मनोहरम्॥
मासादिवर्ष पर्यंतमश्वस्याशन संयुतम्॥ १०१॥
śvetṁ vāpyathavā nīlaṁ bhavyāśvaṁ ca manoharam ||
māsādivarṣa paryaṁtamaśvasyāśana saṁyutam || 101 ||

Also donate a white or a (sea) blue (perhaps steel grey) coloured


magnificent horse along with fodder to last atleast a month or a year.

सर्वोपस्करसंयुक्तं रूप्यं षट्कं च दापयेत्॥


ऊर्णा पट्टमथान्नं च तैलं गोधूमतंडुलम्॥ १०२॥
sarvopaskarasaṁyuktaṁ rūpyaṁ ṣaṭkaṁ ca dāpayet ||
ūrṇā paṭṭamathānnaṁ ca tailaṁ goodhūmataṁḍulam || 102 ||

Along with the horse, donate requisite equipment for the horse (like
saddle, reigns, duly fitted iron shoes, bridle etc,) along six silver coins.
Also, donate wool and silk garments, food, oil wheat and rice grains.

प्रस्थद्वयं प्रदातव्यं ताम्रपात्रे घृतैर्भृतम् ॥


ततो गोसारकं यंत्रं कारयेद्विधिसंयुतम्॥ १०३॥
prasthadvayaṁ pradātavyaṁ tāmrapātre ghṛtairbhṛtam ||
tato goosārakaṁ yaṁtraṁ kārayedvidhisaṁyutam || 103 ||

In a copper vessel take 2 prasthas (capacity equal to 32 palas) of ghee


and donate it. Prepare a ‘gosaraka’ yantra with proper ceremony.

स्त्रीकंठे धारयेन्नित्यंभक्तयातु रविवासरे॥


एतद्दानोपचारेण चिरं तिष्ठति संततिः॥ १०४॥
strīkaṁṭhe dhārayennityaṁbhaktayātu ravivāsare ||
etaddānoopacāreṇa ciraṁ tiṣṭhati saṁtatiḥ || 104 ||
The wife (of the native) should wear that yantra always in her neck
starting from a Sunday onwards. By doing (the above said) the danas and
remedies, the native will definitely have long lived children.

गर्भकाले तु कर्तव्यं दानं विप्राय यत्रतः॥


दानाभावे भवेच्चिंता पुत्रैरपि धनैरपि॥ १०५॥
garbhakāle tu kartavyaṁ dānaṁ viprāya yatrataḥ ||
dānābhāve bhavecciṁtā putrairapi dhanairapi || 105 ||

During the time of pregnancy, the native should keep giving danas
(donations) to Brahmanas. By not giving the donations, he will face
difficulties and worries on account of children and wealth (riches).

दानतः प्राप्यते पुत्रो बुद्धिमांश्च समृद्धिमान्॥


dānataḥ prāpyate putro buddhimāṁśca samṛddhimān ||

By performing danas (donations), the native will get a son who is wise and
prosperous.

कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ १०६॥


kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 106 ||

Thus replied Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

इति विजय योग फलम्॥


iti vijaya yoga phalam ||

End of Vijaya yoga result.

अथ आनंद योग फलम्॥


atha ānaṁda yoga phalam ||

result of Ananda yoga .


कर्मेशः क्रूरसंयुक्तः क्रूरक्षेत्रेऽथवापरे॥
तृतीयेष्टेरिपौवापि आनन्दोयोगउच्यते॥ १०७॥
karmeśaḥ krūrasaṁyuktaḥ krūrakṣetre'thavāpare ||
tṛtīyeṣṭeripauvāpi ānandoyogaucyate || 107 ||

Ananda yoga is formed when the 10th lord is conjunct with malefics and
placed in rasis owned by malefics, or occupies 3 rdor 6th or 12th houses.

पूर्वंक्षेत्रशतंकृत्वा गोशतं च समर्पितम्॥


तेनपुण्यप्रभावेण महाराजो भविष्यति॥ १०८॥
pūrvaṁkṣetraśataṁkṛtvā goośataṁ ca samarpitam ||
tenapuṇyaprabhāveṇa mahārājo bhaviṣyati || 108 ||

On account of performing auspicious religious deeds and donating 100


farms and 100 cows in the past life, the native in the present life will be
born as a Maharaja.

धीमानथोविशालाक्षो बहुधान्यंयुतोभवेत्॥
गौरश्चचपलोवक्तादातादर्शीछलोत्कटः॥ १०९॥
dhīmānathoviśālākṣo bahudhānyaṁyutobhavet ||
gauraścacapalovaktādātādarśīchalotkaṭaḥ || 109 ||

The native will be knowledgeable, wise, have large eyes and have plentiful
grains. He will have reddish complexion and is fickle minded. He is a good
orator, donor, visionary, and largely deceitful.

अकस्मात्तभवेंत्क्रोधीपुनः शीघ्रोपशांतिमान् ॥
पंचषष्ठाब्दतं सौख्यं राजमान्योरणेजयः॥ ११०॥
akasmāttabhaveṁtkrodhīpunaḥ śīghropaśāṁtimān ||
paṁcaṣaṣṭhābdataṁ saukhyaṁ rājamānyoraṇejayaḥ || 110 ||

The native will get angry suddenly and quickly calms down. From 65 th year
of his life, he will get happiness and comforts and will be honoured by the
king. He cannot be defeated (invincible) in the war.
धनंकीर्त्तिर्भवेत्तस्य बहुभृत्यादिसंवृतः॥
अष्टादशेतुविंशे वा महाकीर्त्तिर्धनंतथा॥ १११॥
dhanaṁkīrttirbhavettasya bahubhṛtyādisaṁvṛtaḥ ||
aṣṭādaśetuviṁśe vā mahākīrttirdhanaṁtathā || 111 ||

The native will have wealth, fame and will be surrounded (accompanied)
by many servants. At the age of 18 or 20 years, he will get great fame and
wealth.

दिनेदिने महासौख्यं वर्द्धतेनात्रसंशयः॥


dinedine mahāsaukhyaṁ varddhatenātrasaṁśayaḥ ||

Without doubt, his comforts and happiness will increase day by day.

पूर्वंसतीकलंकाद्वाबांलहत्याप्रभावतः॥ ११२॥
pūrvaṁsatīkalaṁkādvābāṁlahatyāprabhāvataḥ || 112 ||

The native in the past life, because of defaming a female (by seducing
her) or killing a child,

राज रोगोभवेत्तस्य दुःख़ंसंतानतोध्रुवम्॥


rāja rogoobhavettasya duḥaṁsaṁtānatodhruvam ||

(the native in present life) will certainly get consumption (Tuberculosis), or


grief from children.

शुक्र् उवाच॥
śukr uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥ ११३॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham || 113 ||
What japas, pujas and danas should be done as remedies and what
medicines should be taken (to overcome the above)?

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu told,

नवारमंडलस्याग्रेपद्मनाभ त्रिबीजकम्॥
द्विसहस्रं जपेजाप्यं ततः पुण्यं समचरेत्॥ ११४॥
navāramaṁḍalasyāgrepadmanābha tribījakam ||
dvisahasraṁ japejāpyaṁ tataḥ puṇyaṁ samacaret || 114 ||

On top of a navara (a high number) mandala, draw a Padmanabha tribeeja


mantra. Chant the same mantra for 2000 times, and later perform
religious ceremonies (punya) of equal number.

Editor’s comment: Navara would mean one that is not enclosed. The very
word mandala following negates this. I think there is some misprint in the
text. The original word may be trivara, indicating three mandalas

सप्तविंशतितारंच षड्विंशति च हाटकम्


ताम्रपात्रं पलत्रिंशघृतेनपरिपूरितम्॥ ११५॥
saptaviṁshatitāraṁca ṣaḍviṁśati ca hāṭakam
tāmrapātraṁ palatriṁśa ghṛtenaparipūritam || 115 ||

Later on the day of Revati nakshatra (27th star), donate 26 gold coins
along with a copper vessel filled with 30 palas of ghee (to a Brahman).

पंचाशत्करवस्त्रं च गांचसद्वत्स संयुतम्॥


सप्तान्नंप्रस्थपस्थं च विप्रेदानंसमाचरेत्॥ ११६।
paṁcāśatkaravastraṁ ca gāṁcasadvatsa saṁyutam ||
saptānnaṁprasthapasthaṁ ca vipredānaṁsamācaret || 116 |
To the Brahman also donate fifty karas (a particular measure of length
equal to 24 thumbs) of cloth and a cow along with its calf. Also donate 7
cereals measuring a prastha (capacity equal to 32 palas).

त्रिपुरारेस्ततोमन्त्रैर्गोघृतंमंत्रयेत्सुधीः॥
ऋत्वंतेत्रिदिनंदद्यादाचार्यायसुवर्णकम्॥ ११७॥
tripurārestatomantrairgoghṛtaṁmaṁtrayetsudhīḥ ||
ṛtvaṁtetridinaṁdadyādācāryāyasuvarṇakam || 117 ||

Later let a pundit purify cow ghee with ‘Tripurari’ mantra for three
successive days. After the end of the japa, donate gold coins to 6
Acharyas continually for 3 days.

एतद्दानोपचारेण संतानंप्राप्यतेध्रुवम्॥
etaddānopacāreṇa saṁtānaṁprāpyatedhruvam ||

By doing (the above said) the danas and remedies, the native will
definitely have children.

सुंदरंत्रिपुरायंत्रं कांस्यपात्रे च लेखयेत्॥ ११८॥


suṁdaraṁtripurāyaṁtraṁ kāṁsyapātre ca lekhayet || 118 ||

Draw a beautiful ‘Tripura’ yantra on a bronze plate.

तन्मंत्रंक्षालयेब्दीजैर्जपं कृत्वा विशेषतः॥


एतद्दानोपचारेण रोगहीनोभवेत्पुमान्॥ ११९॥
tanmaṁtraṁkṣālayebdījairjapaṁ kṛtvā viśeṣataḥ ||
etaddānopacāreṇa rogahīnobhavetpumān || 119 ||

Purify the yantra by cleansing it with beeja mantra japa. By performing


(the same) the remedies and the danas, the native, will be free from
diseases.

अचिरेणैवकालेन पुत्रलाभादितः सुखम्॥


दानाभावे महाचिंता पुत्रैरपि धनैरपि॥ १२०॥
acireṇaivakālena putralābhāditaḥ sukham ||
dānābhāve mahāciṁtā putrairapi dhanairapi || 120 ||

In a short duration, the native will begin to get happiness and children.
By not giving the donations, he will face difficulties and worries on
account of children and wealth (riches).

कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ १२१॥


kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 121 ||

Thus replied Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

Preface to 3rd Part


What must be re-iterated is the base of any horoscope is yogas which
determine the real power of a horoscope. The base of any yoga is the
action committed in past life, this is mere lip service and so far astrologers
have done nothing to understanding the basis of how each yoga is
formed. Bhrighu Yogavali is one of those first manuscripts to give the past
life karma behind each yoga, something our seniors could never get hold
of. The most important part here is to understand the basis each yoga and
this can be attempted by understanding the past life karma given by the
Maharishi, this valuable part has been missing in yogas for thousands of
years and hence we are unable to say the reason/karma behind a
Mahabhagya yoga or a Gajakeshari yoga. Readers are requested to read
the Damini Yoga results in the following pages. - SA

॥ अथ पिंगल योग फलम्॥


|| atha piṁgala yoga phalam ||

Result of Pingala yoga.

सौम्या लग्ने धने कर्मे क्रूराद्यूने सुतेयदा॥


नीचोज्जेवाधनेलग्ने योगोयं पिंगलोभवेत्॥ १२२॥
saumyā lagne dhane karme krūrādyūne suteyadā ||
nīcojjevādhanelagne yogoyaṁ piṁgalobhavet || 122||

Pingala yoga is formed when benefics occupy Lagna, 2 nd, or


10th houses and when malefics occupy 7th house or 5th house, or are in
their debilitation or exaltation rasis which happen to be either Lagna or
2nd house.

तपस्वी निंदितःपूर्वे साध्वीस्त्री च कलंकिता॥


पात्रेदानंतुकृत्वावैपश्चात्तापः कृतः पुरा॥ १२३॥
tapasvī niṁditaḥpūrve sādhvīstrī ca kalaṁkitā ||
pātredānaṁtukṛtvāvaipaścāttāpaḥ kṛtaḥ purā || 123 ||
The native (of this yoga) had abused an ascetic and defamed a virtuous
married lady (by seducing her) in his past life. However, later, repenting
his actions, he made donations to worthy (capable) people in the
sanctuary of a temple.

प्राप्यते च धनंधान्यंक्षणेवृद्धिः क्षणेक्षयः॥


बाल्येचलभतेदुःखंपित्ताधिक्यं च जायते॥ १२४॥
prāpyate ca dhanaṁdhānyaṁkṣaṇevṛddhiḥ kṣaṇekṣayaḥ ||
bālyecalabhateduḥkhaṁpittādhikyaṁ ca jāyate || 124 ||

(on account of the above) the native in his present life will sometimes
experience gain of wealth, grains and sometimes loss of the same. He will
be born with bilious nature (pitta) and will be sad in his childhood.

तस्यदुःखंसुतात्स्त्रीतः प्रभवेन्नसुखंक्वचित्॥
tasyaduḥkhaṁsutātstrītaḥ prabhavennasukhaṁkvacit ||

Because of this yoga, the native will not be happy and will face sorrows on
account of children and wife.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥ १२५॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham || 125 ||

“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should
be performed and what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||
Bhrigu said,

शनेस्त्रीणिशिखेःपंचसहस्रं जपमाचरेत्॥
रीतिपात्रंपलंत्रिंशच्चंदनैर्नवमंडलम्॥ १२६॥
śanestrīṇiśikheḥpaṁcasahasraṁ japamācaret ||
Bpātraṁpalaṁtriṁśaccaṁdanairnavamaṁḍalam || 126 ||

(The native should) perform japa to Saturn 3000 times and Ketu 5000
times each.
Take a brass vessel weighing 30 palas (a particular weight equal to 4
Karsas) and draw nine circles (nava mandala) in the center with
sandalwood paste,

ऊर्णापट्टंहरिद्वर्णे चतुर्विंशत्पुटीकृतम्॥
तस्योपरिसमासीनःपूर्वोक्तंजपमाचरेत्॥ १२७॥
ūrṇāpaṭṭaṁharidvarṇe caturviṁśatpuṭīkṛtam ||
tasyoparisamāsīnaḥpūrvoktaṁjapamācaret || 127 ||

fold a yellow coloured woollen cloth 24 times sit on it and perform the
above said japa (in front of that mandala).

जपांतेचकृतंपुण्यंषट्कद्वादशहाटकम्॥
रजतंद्विगुणंदेयंशय्याभव्याविचित्रिता॥ १२८॥
japāṁtecakṛtaṁpuṇyaṁṣaṭkadvādaśahāṭakam ||
rajataṁdviguṇaṁdeyaṁśayyābhavyāvicitritā || 128 ||

After completion of the japas, donate 72 (12 x 6) gold coins and double
quantity of silver coins along with a magnificently variegated cot (bed).

सप्तान्नंप्रस्थप्रस्थं च वस्त्रंहस्तांश्चतुर्दश॥
पंचरत्नसमायुक्तंदद्याच्चैवनसंशयः॥ १२९॥
saptānnaṁprasthaprasthaṁ ca vastraṁhastāṁścaturdaśa ||
paṁcaratnasamāyuktaṁdadyāccaivanasaṁśayaḥ || 129 ||
Also donate 7 cereals measuring a prastha (capacity equal to 32 palas),
cloth measuring 14 hasthas (1 hastha equals 24 angulas – about 18
inches) and 5 gems without doubt.

एतद्दानंप्रकर्त्तव्यंयदर्हःश्रूयतेध्रुवम्॥
एतद्दानप्रभावेणसर्वसिद्धिर्नसंशयः॥ १३०॥
etaddānaṁprakarttavyaṁyadarhaḥśrūyatedhruvam ||
etaddānaprabhāveṇasarvasiddhirnasaṁśayaḥ || 130 ||

The above donations should be given to a worthy (deserving) recipient


after listening about them. By doing so, the native’s desires will certainly
be fulfilled.

त्रिजन्मनिमहादुःखंदानाभावेपुनःपुनः॥
जपाभावेमहत्कष्टंप्राणैरपिधनैरपि॥ १३१॥
trijanmanimahāduḥkhaṁdānābhāvepunaḥpunaḥ ||
japābhāvemahatkaṣṭaṁprāṇairapidhanairapi || 131 ||

The native in the next 3 births, will face great sorrows by not performing
the (above said) danas again and again. By not performing the (above
said) japas, he will face worries on account of health and finances.

कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ १३२॥


kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 132 ||

Thus answered Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

इतिपिंगलयोगफलम्॥
itipiṁgalayogaphalam ||

End of Pingala yoga phalam.

॥ अथ विफल योग फलम्॥


|| atha viphala yoga phalam ||
Result of Viphala[1] yoga.

सुतपेशत्रुक्षेत्रे च दुष्टेक्रूरेऽथवापिच॥
शत्रुक्षेत्रेयदाजीवःसंततिर्म्रियतेध्रुवम्॥ १३३॥
sutapeśatrukṣetre ca duṣṭekrūre'thavāpica ||
śatrukṣetreyadājīvaḥsaṁtatirmriyatedhruvam || 133 ||

If 5th lord is a malefic or is placed in a rasi owned by a malefic or in a


malefic house, and Jupiter is placed in rasis owned by malefics, the
children of that native will definitely die[2],

इत्येवंविफलोयोगोभवत्येवनसंशयः॥
स्थाप्याहरणयोगेनब्राह्मणस्य च पूर्वतः॥ १३४॥
ityevaṁviphaloyogobhavatyevanasaṁśayaḥ ||
sthāpyāharaṇayogenabrāhmaṇasya ca pūrvataḥ || 134 ||

this (the above said) happens to be called Viphala yoga. It is formed


because the native in his past life, stole a deposit made by a Brahmin.

तेनपापेनवैपुत्रसंतानोपहतोभवेत्॥
tenapāpenavaiputrasaṁtānopahatobhavet ||

On account of this yoga, the native (in the present life) will not have
children and even if he has children, they will be slain.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥ १३५॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham || 135 ||
“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should
be performed and what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

रीतिपात्रेनपुत्रकारयेन्नवमंडलम्॥
विप्रमूर्तिचतन्मध्येकारयेच्चंदनेनच॥ १३६॥
rītipātrenaputrakārayennavamaṁḍalam ||
vipramūrticatanmadhyekārayeccaṁdanenaca || 136 ||

My son, take a brass vessel and draw a nava (new) mandala in the center.
In the middle of the mandala, draw a figure of a Brahmin with sandalwood
paste.

Sanskrit Editor’s Comment: May be in the 1st line, ‘रीतिपात्रेन’ should


be ‘रीतीपात्रेनवे’ (“nave” in place of “na”). In astrology ‘Putra’ also
means 5, and hence “nave putra” could also mean 59, perhaps weight of
the brass vessel.

रक्तांबरंपरीधायद्विसहस्रंजपंचरेत्॥
पद्मनाभत्रिबीजेनजपंकुर्यान्नसंशयः॥ १३७॥
raktāṁbaraṁparīdhāyadvisahasraṁjapaṁcaret ||
padmanābhatribījenajapaṁkuryānnasaṁśayaḥ || 137 ||

Wear a red garment, and perform Padmanabha ‘tribeeja’ mantra japa for
2000 times (in front of that figure) without doubt.

ततःस्थापनिकादेयानवषट् पंचहाटकम्॥
रजतंद्विगुणं देयंमुक्ताफलंचतुर्दश॥ १३८॥
tataḥsthāpanikādeyānavaṣaṭ paṁcahāṭakam ||
rajataṁdviguṇaṁ deyaṁmuktāphalaṁcaturdaśa || 138 ||
Later deposit 569 gold coins and double quantity of silver coins to be
donated along with 14 pearls.[3]

Sanskrit Editor’s Comment: I think there is misprint in the first line,


maybe it should be “ततःस्थापनिकादेयानषट् पंचहाटकम्॥” meaning 6 x 5 = 30
gold coins instead of 569 gold coins.

सप्तान्नंप्रस्थप्रस्थं च गुडेनैवघृतेनच॥
स्त्रीपुंसयोर्वस्त्रयुग्मंदद्याद्ब्राह्मण एवच॥ १३९॥
saptānnaṁprasthaprasthaṁ ca guḍenaivaghṛutenaca ||
strīpuṁsayorvastrayugmaṁdadyādbrāhmaṇa evaca || 139 ||

Also donate 7 cereals measuring a prastha (capacity equal to 32 palas)


along with jaggery and ghee. Later, donate pair of garments (clothes) to a
Brahmin couple.

ततस्तुश्रीफलं भव्यंमायामंत्रेणमंत्रयेत्॥
ऋत्वंतेस्त्रीषुदातव्यंभौमेनक्तं च कारयेत्॥ १४०॥
tatastuśrīphalaṁ bhavyaṁmāyāmaṁtreṇamaṁtrayet ||
ṛtvaṁtestrīṣudātavyaṁbhaumenaktaṁ ca kārayet || 140 ||

Next purify a coconut with ‘maya’ mantra and give donations to 6 women.
Also eat only in the nights (i.e., fast in the morning) after seeing the stars
on Tuesdays.[4]

ततोगोदानकंयत्नात्पूर्वोक्तविधिनाचरेत्॥
एतद्दानोपचारेणध्रुवंजीवतिसंततिः॥ १४१॥
tatogodānakaṁyatnātpūrvoktavidhinācaret ||
etaddānopacāreṇadhruvaṁjīvatisaṁtatiḥ || 141 ||

Also make efforts to donate a cow as stated in the procedure earlier. By


performing the remedial measures and danas, the native’s children will
definitely live.

एतद्दानंविनाकृत्वापुत्रसौख्यंनजायते॥
पुत्रीसौख्यंतथाचैवजायतेनचकस्यचित्॥ १४२॥
etaddānaṁvinākṛutvāputrasaukhyaṁnajāyate ||
putrīsaukhyaṁtathācaivajāyatenacakasyacit || 142 ||

By not performing the above said danas, the native will definitely not get
happiness from either sons or daughters.

शुभयोगानिसर्वाण्यदानेतुविफलंभवेत्॥
यदानकुरुतेदानंतदंतेनिर्द्धनोभवेत्॥ १४३॥
śubhayogānisarvāṇyadānetuviphalaṁbhavet ||
yadānakurutedānaṁtadaṁtenirddhanobhavet || 143 ||

All the subha (good) yogas[5] will become futile if danas are not
performed and the native will become poor at the end of his life.

कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ १४४॥


kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 144 ||

Thus answered Bhrigu to Sukra’s question

इति विफल योग फलम्॥


iti viphala yoga phalam ||

End of Viphala yoga phalam.

॥ अथ महोदधि योग फलम्॥


|| atha mahodadhi yoga phalam ||

Result of Mahodadhi yoga.

मूर्तौसितेनीचधनेऽर्कजीवसौम्यार्किशुक्रारिव्ययेचपापाः॥
सौम्यास्त्रिकोणेयदिजन्मकालेमहोदधिश्चक्रधरोनरिपःस्यात्
॥ १४५॥
mūrtausitenīcadhane'rkajīvasaumyārkiśukrārivyayecapāpāḥ ||
saumyāstrikoṇeyadijanmakālemahodadhiścakradharonaripaḥsyāt || 145 ||

Mahodadhi yoga is formed when Venus is debilitated (Virgo rasi) in Lagna


or when Sun, Jupiter, Mercury occupy 2nd house or Saturn and Venus are
functional malefics placed in 6th or 12th houses and benefics occupy
trikonas during birth (of the native). Mahodadhi yoga makes the native an
emperor.

इति महोदधि योग फलम्॥


iti mahodadhi yoga phalam ||

End of Mahodadhi yoga phalam.

॥ अथ पिशाचयोग फलम्॥
|| atha piśācayoga phalam ||

Result of Pishacha yoga.

रविक्षेत्रगतेजीवेजीवक्षेत्रेरविर्बुधः॥
पंचमेराहुचंद्रौद्वावदृष्टौगुरुणायदा॥ १४६॥
ravikṣetragatejīvejīvakṣetreravirbudhaḥ ||
paṁcamerāhucaṁdraudvāvadṛṣṭauguruṇāyadā || 146 ||

Pishaacha yoga is formed when Jupiter is in Leo (Sun’s rasi), Sun and
Mercury are in Sagittarius or Pisces (Jupiter’s rasis) and Rahu and Moon
are placed in 5th house without any aspect from Jupiter.

तदापैशाचिकोयोगोभविष्यतिनसंशयः॥
पूर्वंतुभगिनीपुत्रोघातितस्तेनपापिना॥ १४७॥
tadāpaiśācikoyogobhaviṣyatinasaṁśayaḥ ||
pūrvaṁtubhaginīputroghātitastenapāpinā || 147 ||
On account of killing sister’s son (nephew) in the past life, the native in
the present life is born with pishaacha yoga.

तेनयोगप्रभावेणसंतानोऽस्यनविद्यते॥
tenayogaprabhāveṇasaṁtāno'syanavidyate ||

As the result of this yoga, the native will not have issues in the present
life.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥ १४८॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham || 148 ||

“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should
be performed and what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवच॥
bhṛguruvaca ||

Bhrigu said,

राह्वर्कजीवकेतूनांसप्तपंचनवत्रिकम्॥
बीजमंत्रविशेषेणमंत्रंपंचशतंजपेत्॥ १४९॥
rāhvarkajīvaketūnāṁsaptapaṁcanavatrikam ||
bījamaṁtraviśeṣeṇamaṁtraṁpaṁcaśataṁjapet || 149 ||

Perform individual beeja mantra japas for Rahu 3500 (7 x 500) times, Sun
2500 (5 x 500) times, Jupiter 4500 (9 x 500) times and Ketu 1500 (3 x
500) times each.
पश्चद्दानंचकर्त्व्यंषट्कषोडशहाटकम्॥
सप्तान्नंप्रस्थप्रस्थं च रथंवृषभसंयुतम्॥ १५०॥
paścaddānaṁcakartvyaṁṣaṭkaṣoḍaśahāṭakam ||
saptānnaṁprasthaprasthaṁ ca rathaṁvṛṣabhasaṁyutam || 150 ||

After performing the japas, donate 96 (16 x 6) gold coins. Also, donate 7
cereals measuring a prastha (capacity equal to 32 palas) and a carriage
along with a bull (bullock cart).

रजतंद्विगुणंवस्त्रंकरमष्टोत्तरंशतम्॥
ताम्रपात्रपलांस्त्रिंशद् घृतेनपरिपूरयेत्॥ १५१॥
rajataṁdviguṇaṁvastraṁkaramaṣṭottaraṁśatam ||
tāmrapātrapalāṁstriṁśad ghṛutenaparipūrayet || 151 ||

Also donate double the quantity of silver coins, 108 karas (a particular
measure of length equal to 24 thumbs) of cloth and a copper vessel filled
with 30 palas of ghee.

भव्याश्वंवावृषभंभव्यंजापकायप्रदापयेत्॥
दत्त्वादानंद्विजेभ्यस्तुभागिनेयंप्रपूजयेत्॥१५२॥
bhavyāśvaṁvāvṛṣabhaṁbhavyaṁjāpakāyapradāpayet ||
dattvādānaṁdvijebhyastubhāgineyaṁprapūjayet ||152 ||

Donate a good horse and a good bull to venerable Brahmins by saying


prayers and later honour (worship) the nephew (sister’s son),

than 2 brahmins, perhaps 6 as the donations are primarily in multiples of
6.

पाद्यार्घ्येदापयेन्नित्यंमासमेकंनसंशयः॥
तत्करादक्षतंग्राह्यंपादप्रक्षालनंपिबेत्॥ १५३॥
pādyārghyedāpayennityaṁmāsamekaṁnasaṁśayaḥ ||
tatkarādakṣataṁgrāhyaṁpādaprakṣālanaṁpibet || 153 ||
by offering him arghya (offering water to the hands) and paadya (offering
water to the feet) daily for a month. The native should then (after the
puja) drink that water and receive the akshatas (holy rice), that the
nephew held in his hand.

पुर्वमेतत्प्रकर्तव्यंपश्चादौषधमाचरेत्॥
ततश्चैवद्विजस्त्रीभ्योदत्त्वाप्रसवसाहितीम्॥ १५४॥
purvametatprakartavyaṁpaścādauṣadhamācaret ||
tataścaivadvijastrībhyodattvāprasavasāhitīm || 154 ||

After performing the above procedures, offer danas to Brahmins and their
wives (as a couple). The native should then take medicine until delivery
(birth of the child).

ऋत्वंतेस्त्रीषुदातव्यमौषधंप्राप्नुयात्सुतम्॥
एतद्दानोपचरेणसंततिःप्राप्यतेध्रुवम्॥ १५५॥
ṛtvaṁtestrīṣudātavyamauṣadhaṁprāpnuyātsutam ||
etaddānopacareṇasaṁtatiḥprāpyatedhruvam || 155 ||

(the above said) donations should be given to 6 couples after completing


above said japas. Thereafter, both the native and wife should take
medicines for getting children. By doing (the above said) the danas and
remedies, the native will definitely have children[6].

सप्तजन्मनिदारिद्यंदानाभावेननिश्चितम्॥
कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ १५६॥
saptajanmanidāridyaṁdānābhāvenaniścitam ||
kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 156 ||

By not performing the above said danas, the native will become a daridra
(poor) for the next seven births. Thus answered Bhrigu to Sukra’s
question.

इतिपैशाचयोग फलम्॥
itipaiśācayoga phalam ||

॥ अथ दामिनी योग फलम्॥


|| atha dāminī yoga phalam ||

Result of Damini yoga.

सुखेशोपिरिपुक्षेत्रेव्ययेतुर्येषडष्टके॥
सुखेशःक्रूरसंयुक्तःसौम्याःकेंद्रत्रिकोणगाः॥ १५७॥
sukheśopiripukṣetrevyayeturyeṣaḍaṣṭake ||
sukheśaḥkrūrasaṁyuktaḥsaumyāḥkeṁdratrikoṇagāḥ || 157 ||

When 4th lord is placed in an enemy’s rasi, 12th, 4th, 6th or 8th houses, in
conjunction with malefics, and benefics are placed in either kendras or
trikonas

अखिलग्रहानुमानेनदामिनीयोगसंभवः॥
मित्रद्रोहःकृतःपूर्वेतेनेहनरजन्मनि॥ १५८॥
akhilagrahānumānenadāminīyogasaṁbhavaḥ ||
mitradrohaḥkṛtaḥpūrvetenehanarajanmani || 158 ||

considering with respect to all the planets, Damini yoga is formed. On


account of committing treachery against a friend in the past life,
the native is born with this yoga in the present life.

धनहीनोऽथवारोगीसुखमध्येप्युदासति॥
अथवासंततेश्चिंताजायतेनात्रसंशयः॥ १५९॥
dhanahīno'thavārogīsukhamadhyepyudāsati ||
athavāsaṁtateściṁtājāyatenātrasaṁśayaḥ || 159 ||
the native[7] (because of this yoga) will be bereft of wealth, and have a
sickly disposition even though he will be happy in the middle part of his
life. Also, without doubt, he will face worries on account of children. [8]

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा वा किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā vā kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham ||

“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should
be performed and what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

ताम्रपात्रपलान्पंच तन्मध्येनवमंडलम्॥ १६०॥


tāmrapātrapalānpaṁca tanmadhyenavamaṁḍalam || 160 ||

Take a copper plate (vessel) of weighing 5 palas and draw fresh (new)
nine circles (diagram) in the centre

चंदनेनचकर्तव्यंतदग्रेकारयेज्जपम्॥
पंचबीजंनृसिंहस्यसमस्तं तु द्वयंजपेत्॥ १६१॥
caṁdanenacakartavyaṁtadagrekārayejjapam ||
paṁcabījaṁnṛsiṁhasyasamastaṁ tu dvayaṁjapet || 161 ||

with sandalwood paste and later perform ‘Nrusimha’ pancha beeja


(containing 5 beejas) japa 2000 times.
ततोदानंप्रकर्तव्यंनवषट्कंचहाटकम्॥
तस्यसेवाप्रकर्त्व्यातस्यपूजाविशेषतहः॥ १६२॥
tatodānaṁprakartavyaṁnavaṣaṭkaṁcahāṭakam ||
tasyasevāprakartvyātasyapūjāviśeṣatahaḥ || 162 ||

(After completion of the japa) donate 54 (9 x 6) gold coins and do puja (to
Lord Nrusimha) with devotion

चंदनैर्धूपदीपैश्चगुडनैवेद्यकैस्तथा॥
रजतंद्विगुणंवस्त्रंपंचाशत्करसंज्ञकम्॥ १६३॥
caṁdanairdhūpadīpaiścaguḍanaivedyakaistathā ||
rajataṁdviguṇaṁvastraṁpaṁcāśatkarasaṁjñakam || 163 ||

offering chandan (sandalwood powder), dhoop, deepa and jaggery as


navivedya. Also donate double quantity of silver coins and clothes
measuring 50 karas (a particular measure of length equal to 24 thumbs).

सवत्सांगांप्रदद्याक्तुश्रद्धायुक्तश्चमानवः॥
ततश्चपद्मनाभस्य यंत्रंपार्श्वेचधारयेत्॥ १६४॥
savatsāṁgāṁpradadyāktuśraddhāyuktaścamānavaḥ ||
tataścapadmanābhasya yaṁtraṁpārśvecadhārayet || 164 ||

The native should also donate a cow along with its calf with faith. Later he
should wear a ‘Padmanabha’ yantra on the hand above the elbow (below
the shoulder).

Sanskrit Editor’s Comment: “Parshva” also means the waist, so this


could mean one should tie the yantra around the waist

अस्मिन्दानोपचारेचचिंताकष्टक्षयोभवेत्॥
रामंचलक्ष्मणंनागंगोदुग्धेन समन्वितम्॥ १६५॥
asmindānopacārecaciṁtākaṣṭakṣayobhavet ||
rāmaṁcalakṣmaṇaṁnāgaṁgodugdhena samanvitam || 165 ||
By performing the danas in the above said manner, the natives worries
and troubles will definitely reduce. take 3 lactating cows and an elephant
bearing auspicious marks,

ऋत्वंतेतुप्रसादातव्यंभोजनंपयसाघृतम्॥
संतानार्थिचदातव्यंदानानंतरमौषधम्। १६६॥
ṛtvaṁtetuprasādātavyaṁbhojanaṁpayasāghṛtam ||
saṁtānārthicadātavyaṁdānānaṁtaramauṣadham | 166 ||

and donate to 6 brahmin couples after offering them food with payasam
(rice boiled in milk) and ghee. If the native wishes to have children, he
should after giving the above donations take medicines (for the same).[9]

यदानकुरुतेदानंतदादुःखीमहान्भवेत्॥
कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ १६७॥
yadānakurutedānaṁtadāduḥkhīmahānbhavet ||
kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 167 ||

By not performing the (above said) danas, the native will definitely face
huge worries.
Thus answered Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

इति दामिनी योग फलम्॥


iti dāminī yoga phalam ||

॥ अथ चक्रदामिनी योग फलम्॥


|| atha cakradāminī yoga phalam ||

Result of Chakradamini yoga.


बुधक्षेत्रगतोजीवोजीवक्षेत्रेऽथवाभृगुः॥
चतुर्ग्रहोभवेत्तत्रयोगोयंचक्रदामिनी॥ १६८॥
budhakṣetragatojīvojīvakṣetre'thavābhṛguḥ ||
caturgrahobhavettatrayogoyaṁcakradāminī || 168 ||

Chakradamini yoga is formed when Jupiter is in Mercury’s rasis


(Gemini/Virgo) or Venus is in Jupiter’s rasis (Sagittarius/Pisces) conjunct
with (the rest of) 4 planets.

चातुर्यगुणसंपन्नःसकामीवक्रलोचनः ॥
सुवक्तादीर्घजीवी च किंचिद्दातामहासुखी॥ १६९॥
cāturyaguṇasaṁpannaḥsakāmīvakralocanaḥ ||
suvaktādīrghajīvī ca kiṁciddātāmahāsukhī || 169 ||

The native born with this yoga will be clever, virtuous, wealthy and has
crooked eyes. He will be a good orator, long lived, happy and donate very
little.

इति चक्रदामिनी योग फलम्॥


iti cakradāminī yoga phalam ||

॥ अथ वाग्भव योग फलम्॥


|| atha vāgbhava yoga phalam ||

Result of Vaagbhava yoga.

तुर्येसुतेव्ययेलाभेग्रहयुग्मंभवेद्यदि॥
राजमान्योधनाढ्यश्चवागमी च पंडितःसुधीः॥ १७०॥
turyesutevyayelābhegrahayugmaṁbhavedyadi ||
rājamānyodhanāḍhyaścavāgamī ca paṁḍitaḥsudhīḥ || 170 ||
Vaagbhava yoga is formed when there is conjunction of two planets each
in 4th, 5th, 12th, and 11th houses. The native (born with this yoga) will be
honoured by king, is wealthy and is an eloquent orator. He is also a wise
scholar.
इति वाग्भव योग फलम्॥
iti vāgbhava yoga phalam ||

॥ अथ श्रीमुख योग फलम्॥


|| atha śrīmukha yoga phalam ||

Result of Srimukha yoga.

भृगुर्वाचस्पतिक्षेत्रेशनियुक्तभृगूदये॥
कर्केजीवज्ञसूर्याश्चश्रीमुखोयौवनेसुखम्॥ १७१॥
bhṛgurvācaspatikṣetreśaniyuktabhṛgūdaye ||
karkejīvajñasūryāścaśrīmukhoyauvanesukham || 171 ||

Srimukha yoga is formed when Venus is in Mercury’s rasi (Gemini)


conjunct with Saturn in Lagna, and Jupiter, Mercury and Sun occupy
Cancer (2nd Bhava). Because of this yoga the native will be happy in his
youth.

विंशद्वर्षगतेनूनंराजमान्योमहाद्भुतः॥
गोजाश्वधनसंयुक्तोमहायोगोभृगूदितः॥ १७२॥
viṁśadvarṣagatenūnaṁrājamānyomahādbhutaḥ ||
gojāśvadhanasaṁyuktomahāyogobhṛgūditaḥ || 172 ||

Bhrigu said, after completion of 20 years, he will be honoured by the king


in a very remarkable way. He will have elephants and horses in addition to
great wealth.
इति श्रीमुख योग फलम्॥
iti śrīmukha yoga phalam ||

॥ अथ क्रूर योग फलम्॥


|| atha krūra yoga phalam ||

Result of Krura yoga.

तुर्येवापंचमेराहुःसुतेशःक्रूरसंयुतः॥
क्रूरक्षेत्रेत्रिकोणेज्ञःक्रूरयोगस्तदोच्यते॥ १७३॥
turyevāpaṁcamerāhuḥsuteśaḥkrūrasaṁyutaḥ ||
krūrakṣetretrikoṇejñaḥkrūrayogastadocyate || 173 ||

When Rahu is in 4th or 5th houses, 5th lord is conjunct with malefics and
Mercury is in rasis owned by malefics in trikona, Krura yoga is formed.

क्रोधीस्थूलोमहामानीसलज्जोधनवांस्तथा॥
सदातीर्थाभिलाषीचकुटिलोजायतेपुनः॥ १७४॥
krodhīsthūlomāhāmanīsalajjodhanavāṁstathā ||
sadātīrthābhilāṣīcakuṭilojāyatepunaḥ || 174 ||

The native will be of angry disposition, fat, exceedingly proud, bashful and
wealthy. He will always wish to travel to holy/sacred places (pilgrimages)
and is dishonest.

इति क्रूर योग फलम्॥


iti krūra yoga phalam ||

End of Krura yoga phalam.


॥ अथ गज योग फलम्॥
|| atha gaja yoga phalam ||

Result of Gaja yoga.

लग्नेजीवेऽथवाशुक्र उच्चेवा उदयेऽथवा॥


केन्द्रत्रिकोणगाःसौम्याःपापःषष्ठेव्ययेऽथवा॥ १७५॥
lagnejīve'thavāśukra uccevā udaye'thavā ||
kendratrikoṇagāḥsaumyāḥpāpaḥṣaṣṭhevyaye'thavā || 175 ||

When Jupiter or Venus are exalted in Lagna, or are out of combustion


occupying Lagna, and benefics are in trikonas or kendras and malefics are
in 6th or 12th houses, Gaja yoga is formed.

गजयोगेभवेत्पुत्रोराजमान्योमहाबलः॥
सोपिमानाधिकःक्रोधी दीर्घायुर्बहुपुत्रकः॥ १७६॥
gajayogebhavetputrorājamānyomahābalaḥ ||
sopimānādhikaḥkrodhī dīrghāyurbahuputrakaḥ || 176 ||

Because of this yoga, the native, is very strong, proud and be honoured
by kings. He has angry disposition, is long lived and will have many sons.

इति गज योग फलम्॥

॥ अथ अद्भुतसागरयोग फलम्॥
|| atha adbhutasāgarayoga phalam ||

Result of Adbhutasagara yoga.

चतुष्केंद्रेयदासौम्याः षष्ठेलाभेचपापिनः॥
उद्भूतःसागरेसौख्यंचक्रीवापिसमोहरेः॥ १७७॥
catuṣkeṁdreyadāsaumyāḥ ṣaṣṭhelābhecapāpinaḥ ||
udbhūtaḥsāgaresaukhyaṁcakrīvāpisamohareḥ || 177 ||

Adbhutasagara yoga is formed when benefics are in four kendras and


malefics are in 6th and 11th houses. The native (with this yoga) is happy,
will be a king and is equal to Vishnu (wealthy).

इत्यद्भुतसागरयोग फलम्॥
ityadbhutasāgarayoga phalam ||

॥ अथ ऊर्द्ध्वोद्भूत योग फलम्॥


|| atha ūrddhvodbhūta yoga phalam ||

Result of Urddhvodbhuta yoga.

मूर्त्तौक्रूरेंदुसंयुक्तस्तुर्यास्तेभेशुभाशुभाः॥
ऊर्द्ध्वोद्भूतोभवेद्योगोराजमान्योभवेदध्रुवम्॥ १७८॥
mūrttaukrūreṁdusaṁyuktasturyāstebheśubhāśubhāḥ ||
ūrddhodbhūtobhavedyogorājamānyobhavedadhruvam || 178 ||
Urddhvodbhuta yoga is formed when Moon is conjunct with malefics in
Lagna, Venus occupies 4th house in conjunction with benefics and
7 house is occupied by malefics. Because of this yoga, the native will be

definitely honoured by the king,[11]

क्षणेसौख्यंक्षणेचिंताधनीस्वल्पस्तुजायते॥
महत्त्वंराजमान्यंचमानसौख्यंसदाभवेत्॥ १७९॥
kṣaṇesaukhyaṁkṣaṇeciṁtāadhanīsvalpastujāyate ||
mahattvaṁrājamānyaṁcamānasaukhyaṁsadābhavet || 179 ||

he will experience troubles in life at one time and comforts at another, has
little wealth, will be respected and honoured by the king always
(throughout his life).

एतद्योगप्रभावेणयावज्जीवंसमृद्धिमान्॥
कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ १८०॥
etadyogaprābhaveṇayāvajjīvaṁsamṛddhimān ||
kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 180 ||

On account of this yoga, the native will have great prosperity/success


throughout his life. Thus answered Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

इत्यूर्द्धोद्भूत योग फलम्॥


ityūrddhodbhūta yoga phalam ||

End of Urddhvodbhuta yoga phalam.

॥ अथ निपातः योग फलम्॥


|| atha nipātaḥ yoga phalam ||

Result of Nipata yoga.

मूर्त्तौचेष्टाष्टमेषष्ठेशनीराहुस्तथाकुजः॥
तदायोगोनिपातःस्थात्परदेशेसदाव्रजेत्॥ १८१॥
mūrttauceṣṭāṣṭameṣaṣṭheśanīrāhustathākujaḥ ||
tadāyogonipātaḥsthātparadeśesadāvrajet || 181 ||

Nipata yoga is formed when Lagna is a movable rasi and Saturn, Rahu and
Mars are placed in Lagna, 6th and 8th houses respectively. Because of this
yoga, the native will always be travelling to foreign lands.

कृपणोदुष्टचित्तश्चधनहीनस्तथाभवेत्॥
अथवासंततेश्चिंताभवेन्नैवात्रसंशयः॥ १८२॥
kṛpaṇoduṣṭacittaścadhanahīnastathābhavet ||
athavāsaṁtateściṁtābhavennaivātrasaṁśayaḥ || 182 ||

He is a miser, has a wicked mind, and has no wealth. Also, he will have
worries on account of children.

शनेःपंचततस्त्रीणिद्विसहस्रंजपंजपेत्॥
ततोदानंप्रकर्त्तव्यंभंव्याश्वंगोयुगंतथा॥ १८३॥
śaneḥpaṁcatatastrīṇidvisahasraṁjapaṁjapet ||
tatodānaṁprakarttavyaṁbhaṁvyāśvaṁgoyugaṁtathā || 183 ||

Perform japa for Saturn 30000 (5 x 3 x 2000) times and later donate a
magnificent horse and a cow.

ततःसुवर्णषट्कंचरजतंद्विगुणंतथा॥
ततोदानप्रभावेणनिपातस्यक्षयोभवेत्॥ १८४॥
tataḥsuvarṇaṣaṭkaṁcarajataṁdviguṇaṁtathā ||
tatodānaprabhāveṇanipātasyakṣayobhavet || 184 ||

In addition, also donate 6 gold coins and double quantity of silver coins. As
the result of these donations, the effect of Nipaata yoga is reduced.[12]

इति निपातयोग फलम्॥


iti nipātayoga phalam ||

॥ अथ विलास योग फलम्॥
|| atha vilāsa yoga phalam ||

Result of Vilaasa yoga.

लग्नेशेचगतेतुर्येसौम्याक्षेत्रेशिवार्चकः॥
विलासीचमहादंभीदाताभोक्तागुणाधिक॥ १८४॥
lagneśecagateturyesaumyākṣetreśivārcakaḥ ||
vilāsīcamahādaṁbhīdātābhoktāguṇādhika || 184 ||

Vilaasa yoga is formed when Lagna lord occupies 4 th house in rasis of


Mercury (Gemini/Virgo). The native with this yoga is a devotee of Lord
Shiva. He is also a hypocrite, generous, feeds others, enjoys luxuries and
is endowed with good qualities.

इति विलासयोग फलम्॥


iti vilāsayoga phalam ||

End of Vilaasa yoga phalam.

॥ अथ शक्रयोग फलम्॥
|| atha śakrayoga phalam ||

Result of Sakra Yoga.

मेषमार्त्तण्डलाभस्थेकर्केगुरुर्धनेस्थितः॥
कर्मेशुक्रःसदासौम्याःशक्रयोगेचचक्रिणः॥ १८६॥
meṣamārttaṇḍalābhasthekarkegururdhanesthitaḥ ||
karmeśukraḥsadāsaumyāḥśakrayogecacakriṇaḥ || 186 ||
Sakra yoga is formed when Sun is in Aries that is the 11 th house, Jupiter is
in Cancer that is the 2nd house (i.e., for Gemini Lagna natives), Venus and
Mercury occupy 10th house. The native of this yoga is a king.

॥ इति शक्र योग फलम्॥


|| iti śakra yoga phalam ||

॥ अथ महिष योग फलम्॥


|| atha mahiṣa yoga phalam ||

Result of Mahisha yoga.

रिपौतुर्येऽष्टमेचान्त्येराहुभौमार्कतत्सुताः॥
मूर्तौचंद्रेचकुरुतेमातुःकष्टमृतुत्रयम्॥ १८७॥
ripauturye'ṣṭamecāntyerāhubhaumārkatatsutāḥ ||
mūrtaucaṁdrecakurutemātuḥkaṣṭamṛtutrayam || 187 ||

When Rahu is in 6th house, Mars is in 4th house, Sun is in 8th house and
Saturn is in 12th house and moon is in Lagna, the native’s mother
experiences troubles/difficulties for 3 seasons (after the birth).

असौमहिषयोगोऽस्तिफलंशृण्वस्यपुत्रक॥
गर्भापातःकृतःपूर्वतेनात्रमृतपुत्रकः॥ १८८॥
asaumahiṣayogo'stiphalaṁśṛṇvasyaputraka ||
garbhāpātaḥkṛtaḥpūrvatenātramṛtaputrakaḥ || 188 ||

My son, now listen to the result of Mahisha yoga. The native in his past life
had aborted a child. On account of this, in the present life, his sons will be
still born.

धर्मस्थानेस्थितोजीवःसुखंतेनप्रजायते॥
dharmasthānesthitojīvaḥsukhaṁtenaprajāyate ||

However, if Jupiter is present in the 9th house, he will have happiness.

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥ १८९॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham || 189 ||

“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should
be performed and what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||

Bhrigu said,

क्रूरग्रहजपंकुर्याद्विशेषाच्चन्द्रभौमयोः॥
ततोदानंप्रकर्तव्यंगुरुयोगात्सुखंभवेत्॥ १९०॥
krūragrahajapaṁkuryādviśeṣāccandrabhaumayoḥ ||
tatodānaṁprakartavyaṁguruyogātsukhaṁbhavet || 190 ||

Perform japas to malefic planets especially to Moon and Mars and later
give donations. Because of these donations, by the grace of Guru, the
native will have happiness.[13]

इति महिषयोग फलम्॥


iti mahiṣayoga phalam ||

End of Mahisha yoga phalam.


॥ अथ देवेंद्र योग फलम्॥
|| atha deveṁdra yoga phalam ||

Result of Devendra yoga.

केंद्रेचतुष्केपिच उच्चखेटाजीवार्कभौमार्कीशशांकिनोंऽगे॥
नीचस्त्रिकोणेपिचपापखेटादेवेंद्रयोगोऽखिलयोगमुख्यः॥ १९१॥
keṁdrecatuṣkepica uccakheṭājīvārkabhaumārkīśaśāṁkinoṁ'ge ||
nīcastrikoṇepicapāpakheṭādeveṁdrayogo'khilayogamukhyaḥ || 191 ||

Devendra yoga which is main yoga in all the yogas, is formed when
planets Jupiter, Sun, Mars, Saturn are exalted in 4 kendras, Moon is in
Lagna and (functional) malefic planets are debilitated in trikonas.

इति देवेंद्र योग फलम्॥

॥ अथ राजयोग फलम्॥

सौम्याःक्रूराधनेलग्नेनीचशत्रुगृहेगुरुः॥
पितुःकष्टंमहासौख्यमन्तेदुःखीप्रजायते॥ १९२॥
saumyāḥkrūrādhanelagnenīcaśatrugṛheguruḥ ||
pituḥkaṣṭaṁmahāsaukhyamanteduḥkhīprajāyate || 192 ||

When benefics are placed in 2nd house, malefics are in lagna and
debilitated Jupiter is placed in enemy’s house[14], the native’s father
faces difficulties, native (himself) has happiness but will face troubles in
the last part of his life,

चतुर्ग्रहायदालग्नेधनेशुक्रोयदाभवेत्॥
धर्मेसौरीरिपुक्षेत्रेराजयोगेमहासुखी॥ १९३॥
caturgrahāyadālagnedhaneśukroyadābhavet ||
dharmesaurīripukṣetrerājayogemahāsukhī || 193 ||

Also, if 4 planets are placed in lagna, Venus is in 2 nd house, Saturn is in


9th house that is an enemy’s rasi, Rajayoga is formed. The native of this
yoga has great happiness.

इति राजयोग फलम्॥


iti rājayoga phalam ||

॥अथ शूल योग फलम्॥


|| atha śūla yoga phalam ||

Result of Shula yoga.

छिद्रोदयेव्ययेक्रूरास्तत्रचंद्रस्थितोयदि॥
अथवापिग्रहाःसर्वेत्रिस्थानेषुयदास्थिताः॥ १९४॥
chidrodayevyayekrūrāstatracaṁdrasthitoyadi ||
athavāpigrahāḥsarvetristhāneṣuyadāsthitāḥ || 194 ||

When malefics are placed in the Lagna, 6th, and 12th houses, and Moon is
also placed in one of these bhavas and/or all grahas occupy these 3
houses,[15]

शूलेपुराकृतंपापंशूलेनप्रहतोवृषः॥
तेनपापेनदुष्टात्मारोगीवाधनवर्जितः॥ १९५॥
śūlepurākṛtaṁpāpaṁśūlenaprahatovṛṣaḥ ||
tenapāpenaduṣṭātmārogīvādhanavarjitaḥ || 195 ||

Shula yoga is formed. In the past life, the native killed a bull with spear.
On account of this crime, in the present life, he will be a wicked person,
sick, or will not have any wealth.

अथसंतानहेतोश्चबहुचिंताप्रजायते॥
athasaṁtānahetoścabahuciṁtāprajāyate ||

He will also have worries on account of children (i.e., by not having


progeny etc,).

शुक्र उवाच॥
śukra uvāca ||

Sukra asked,

किं जाप्यं कस्य पूजा च किं दानं च किमौषधम्॥ १९६॥


kiṁ jāpyaṁ kasya pūjā ca kiṁ dānaṁ ca kimauṣadham || 196 ||

“What Japas, Pujas and danas (donations) (as remedial measures) should
be performed and what medicines should be taken?”

भृगुरुवाच॥
bhṛguruvāca ||
Bhrigu said,

ताम्रपात्रंपंचपलंतन्मध्ये पंचमंडलम्॥
चंदनेनचकर्त्तव्यंकारयेद्वृषभाकृतिम्॥ १९७॥
tāmrapātraṁpaṁcapalaṁtanmadhye paṁcamaṁḍalam ||
caṁdanenacakarttavyaṁkārayedvṛṣabhākṛtim || 197 ||

Take a copper plate (vessel) weighing 5 palas and draw five circles
diagram in the middle. (In that diagram) draw a figure of a bull with
sandalwood paste.

तदग्रेकारयेज्जाप्यंरुद्रमंत्रंत्रियंबकम्॥
सहस्रपंचकंकार्यंततःपुण्यंसमाचरेत्॥ १९८॥
tadagrekārayejjāpyaṁrudramaṁtraṁtriyaṁbakam ||
sahasrapaṁcakaṁkāryaṁtataḥpuṇyaṁsamācaret || 198 ||

Later perform ‘Triyambaka’ rudra mantra japa 5000 times and perform
the same amount of religious ceremonies (punyam).

चतुर्विंशतिषट्कंचहाटकंगांवृषंतथा॥
एतद्दानप्रभावेणशूलयोगक्षयोभवेत्॥ १९९॥
caturviṁśatiṣaṭkaṁcahāṭakaṁgāṁvṛṣaṁtathā ||
etaddānaprabhāveṇaśūlayogakṣayobhavet || 199 ||

Also donate 144 (24 x 6) gold coins, a cow and a bull. By performing the
above said danas, the effect of Shula yoga is reduced.

यदानकुरुतेदानंतदाचपंचजन्मसु॥
महाचिंताभवेत्तस्यपुत्रैरपिधनैरपि॥ २००॥
yadānakurutedānaṁtadācapaṁcajanmasu ||
mahāciṁtābhavettasyaputrairapidhanairapi || 200 ||

By not performing the above said danas, the native in the next 5 lives will
face great troubles on account of finances and children.
कविना च कृतः प्रश्नो भृगुणा परिभाषितः॥ २०१॥
kavinā ca kṛtaḥ praśno bhṛguṇā paribhāṣitaḥ || 201 ||

Thus answered Bhrigu to Sukra’s question.

इति शूलयोग फलम्॥


iti śūlayoga phalam ||

End of Shula yoga phalam.

[1] Viphala means fruitless. Which may also means bereft of children who are considered to be the
fruit of married life. – Guru Rajesh (GR)

[2] The meaning of Satru Kshetra is position in an inimical sign. Thus the above sloka means that the
5th lord should be placed in an inimical sign, or in a malefic sign or in a malefic house and at the same
time Jupiter should occupy his inimical signs, which means the signs of Venus and Mercury. - GR

[3] What is important to note here is that for the first time we find remedial measures for each yoga, the
karma done in the past life to beget it in this life. Readers will observe the intricate manner of remedial
measure and the number of remedial measure given, something you would not find even Parampara
(tradional) Jyotish Gurus prescribing today. It is important to realize what we do not know, then humility
and subsequently further learning sets in. - SA

[4] ‘Ritvamte Strisu datavyam’ here has a different meaning. Ritu is the period when the
egg will be released in the women which is considered as the period fit for coitus by the
dharmasastras. Hence giving the Sri Phalam (here translated as coconut…may also mean
the fruit of bilva tree) in this period will ensure successful fertilization and pregnancy.
According to the mantrasastras maya mantram is ‘Hreem’.- GR
[5] A lesser known fact among jyotish scholars is which are those yogas, if unhealed slowly destroy the
effectiveness of even some good yogas present in the chart. The base of every horoscope is Yogas and
not Dasas, most authors unearth 100s of dasas but if you ask them to quote the names of 50 yogas they
can’t whereas it is said that there are more than 100,000 yogas (a maharashtrian astrologer had written
a book on it) . The need of the hour is for Jyotish organizations & publications to invest in projects to
unearth rare materials on Yogas, something no Jyotish institution has done in the last 100 years inspite
of hefty amounts of donation. A one million dollar donation in USA to a Jyotish organization has produced
not even a single material/book of our ancient Jyotish literature, lakhs of Rupees of donation to a famous
jyotish magazine from north of india has resulted in not even a single material of jyotish literature
coming out for the common astrologer. If organizations do not understand their role in shaping
astrological thinking then jyotish is doomed and will deteriorate, as it has happened in India in the last 25
years where astrology is taught in classroom culture with no emphasis for classical reading, the only
emphasis is the notes of the classes. Instead of astrology being a karma oriented shastra it has now
become ‘will I win the election’ shastra at the hands of astrologers who are hungry for media fame. An
astrologer was more respected 25 years back than now, self promoting heads of jyotish organizations are
the culprits of this decay in astrology.- SA

[6] Here also the sloka means that the medicine should be given to the women after her ritu
snanam.- GR
[7] ‘Sukhamadhyepyudaasati’ means the native though placed amongst many comforts
will be moody and melancholic.- GR
[8] Read verse 159 and understand the result of karma of treachery against a friend, the Maharishi says
such a one will become bereft of wealth, will face worries on account of children, this gives us some clue
as to how karma is being operated upon. Now see verse 158, 157 and see why 4L in bad houses or with
a malefic the Maharishi is saying treachery against a friend, the reason is since 4H is close friends and
not 11H as taught all over India and in foreign jyotish courses. We have 2 years back in our editorials
mentioned with the Parasara shloka (chapter 11/12 Verse 4) that Parasara talks about 4H as friend and
so does Chandra Kala Nadi/Deva Kerelam yet this has been ignored by most Jyotishis including Jyotish
Gurus. 11H is ones network of contacts whereas close friends are always close to ones heart (4H) as
ones mother (4H) is naturally close to ones heart. There is difference between philosophical heart and
physical heart as an organ. That’s the reason some take 5H as the physical organ and 4h as the spiritual
heart center as Mother is close to ones heart always and Mother (4H) cannot be in the 12 th of losses from
ones heart. Another way to look at is one uses sweet talk/PR to deal with ones contacts (11H) for ones
gains (11H) whereas with ones mother (4H) and close friends (4H) one is always direct and there is no PR
involved.- SA

[9] These two slokas 165 & 166 seem to be referring to some code words. ‘Ramam cha lakshmanam
Naagam godugdhena samanvitam’ when translated literally mean take Rama and lakshmana and naaga
along with cow’s milk. This may be a code word for any ayurvedic preparation - GR

[10] ‘Gajayoge bhavet putro’ means the native with gajayoga will have a son respected
by king and powerful. The native will also be respected, having angry disposition, long
life and many sons. - GR
[11] ‘Turyaste bhe subhaasubhaah’ means both malefics and benefics should occupy the
4th and 7th houses, besides Moon with a malefic in the ascendant. There is no mention of
Venus here. - GR
[12] Here ‘Saumya Kshetre’ may also mean any benefic sign - GR

[13] ‘Guru Yogaat sukham bhavet’ may also indicate that because of the presence of
Jupiter in the 9th house, the remedial measures will give fruit and he will be happy. - GR
[14] ‘Neecha satru gruhe guruh’ means Jupiter occupying either debilitation sign or inimical signs. - GR

[15] ‘Chidra’ actually means the 8th house. It is not 6th house. - GR
