DISMANTLING
• The high-pressure fuel pump of the JTD engine does not require timing.
• Remove the right front wheel, the inner fender shield, the cover of
protection under the engine, the accessory belt and the lower cover of the
flywheel box.
• Install the flywheel locking tool (see 1 in the figure).
• Remove the crankshaft pulley (see 2 and 3 in the figure), the locking tool.
of the flywheel (see 1 in the figure), the lower timing cover, the stabilizer bar
of the engine with the support bracket and the upper timing cover.
• Manually rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the top dead center (TDC) of the first cylinder.
• Check that the pin on the crankshaft sprocket is centrally aligned with the
cylinder block (see 4 in the figure).
• Check the alignment of the phase references on the toothed pulley of the shaft.
with the fixed references on the valve cover:
Up to engine N. 416 449, the timing reference on the toothed pulley of the shaft
the cam must be seven teeth behind the one on the cover
valves. Three teeth forward compared to the lower edge of the valve cover (see 15
in the figure). The position of the phase reference on the toothed pulley of the shaft
it can be misaligned by about 3° or by ½ tooth.
Starting from engine No. 416 450, check that the phase references are aligned.
(see 16 in figure).
• Loosen the pulley pinion nut (see 6 in figure), moving it away from the
belt and disassemble the belt itself.
INSTALLATION
• Check that the pin on the crankshaft sprocket is centrally aligned with the
cylinder block (see 4 in the figure).
• Remove the screw from the oil pump and insert the stud into the monoblock.
of the timing tool for the crankshaft (see 7 in the figure).
• Install the timing belt on the crankshaft sprocket by doing
pay attention to the signs of the direction of rotation.
• Install the timing tool on the crankshaft sprocket (see 8 in the figure)
checking that the pin on the crankshaft sprocket is correctly positioned
in the tool (see 4 in the figure) and secure the screw (see 9 in the figure).
• Check the alignment of the phase references on the toothed pulley of the shaft
cam (see 5 in figure).
• Install the timing belt starting from the drive pulley and proceeding
towards that toothed camshaft, the high fuel pump
injection pump pressure/sprocket, the belt tensioner sprocket and the pulley
of the water pump.
Fiat Stilo 1.9 JTD 8V Diesel Engine 192 A 1.000 (01-) 1
• Check the alignment of the reference marks on the belt:
oJTD: toothed pulley camshaft (see 17 in the figure).
oExcept JTD: toothed pulleys camshaft and fuel injection pump (see 17 in
figure).
• Loosen the pulley nut of the tensioner (see 6 in the figure).
• Tighten the belt by leveraging the tensioner bracket (see 12 in the figure).
• Tighten the belt tensioner nut.
• Dismantle the timing tool (see 8 in figure).
• Mount the oil pump screw.
• Rotate the engine by hand in a clockwise direction for two turns.
• Loosen the tensioner nut again (see 6 in the figure).
• Tighten the belt by leveraging the tensioner bracket (see 12 in the figure) until
when references 13 and 14 are aligned.
• Tighten the belt tensioner screw.
• Reassemble the other components in the reverse order of disassembly.
• Tighten the pulley screws of the crankshaft (see 2 in the figure).
CLAMPING COUPLES
