Writing:

Writing Task: "The Comfort Food That Defines Me"

Objective: Write a descriptive essay or personal reflection about your favourite comfort food.
Explain why it is meaningful to you and how it relates to your emotions, culture, or memories.
Include sensory details (taste, smell, texture) and describe any experiences that make this
food special.

Instructions:

1. Introduction: Start by introducing the comfort food you’ve chosen. Is it a traditional

dish from your culture? Is it something you eat when you’re feeling down, or is it
associated with a specific memory?
2. Describe the food: Describe the food in detail. What does it look like, smell like, and
taste like? What kind of textures does it have? If it's a dish you make, describe the
process of preparing it. If it's something you buy, describe the experience of eating it.
3. Personal connection: Explain why this particular food is comforting to you. Does it
remind you of a time in your life or someone special? Does it bring back any specific
memories or feelings? How does it make you feel when you eat it?
4. Cultural significance (optional): If applicable, explain if this food has any cultural or
family significance. Do others in your family or culture also enjoy it? How does it
reflect your cultural background?
5. Conclusion: End your essay by reflecting on the importance of comfort foods in
general. Why do you think people turn to food for comfort? Do you think comfort
food is just about the taste, or is there something more emotional or nostalgic about it?

Guidelines:

 Write at least 200 words.

 Use descriptive language to engage the reader’s senses.
 Include personal experiences and emotional connections.
 Make sure your writing has a clear structure: Introduction, Body, and Conclusion.
Optional Extension:
After the writing task, you can have students share their essays in small groups or with the
class, creating opportunities for discussions about comfort foods across different cultures and
personal experiences.
