The Westmead Program: When can I practice my robot talking?

Daily Activities

Do robot talking by yourself or with others whilst:

getting out of bed;


preparing and eating your breakfast;
preparing your lunch;
packing your school bag;
brushing your hair;
making your bed;
feeding your pets;
cleaning up your room;
putting a load of washing into the washing machine;
hanging clothes on the washing line or putting clothes in the dryer;
taking a bath or shower;
getting dressed;
putting on your school shoes and school hat;
applying sunscreen;
going to school in the car, train, bus or ferry;
walking or riding your bike, scooter or skateboard;
listening to the radio in the car and discussing current affairs;
talking on the way to school;
saying goodbye to your mum, dad or other carer when you reach school;
at school or pre-school with your friends or teachers;
going home from school or pre-school;
attending before/after-school care or vacation care;
talking about the day on your way home or to another activity;
organising or helping to cook dinner;
setting the table;
eating dinner;
cleaning the house;
stacking the dishwasher or washing the dishes;
talking about the things that need to be done for the next day;
getting ready for bed; or
reading a bedtime story.

School-related activities

Do robot talking by yourself or with others whilst:

going on an excursion;
attending an incursion at your pre-school or school;
volunteering at your school canteen;
discussing a special school activity, e.g. Take Your Bike To School Day,
Book Week Parade costume, Easter hat parade, Pyjama Day, Grandparents’
Day;
attending an annual school activity, e.g. swimming carnival, cross-country
carnival, athletics carnival, science olympics;
preparing and giving a presentation at school or pre-school;
completing your homework;
preparing a school project or assignment;
reading your school newsletter;
looking at your school twitter feed, school website or school app; or
reading your home readers.

Extra-curricular or after-school activities

Do robot talking by yourself or with others whilst attending:

swimming lessons or Nippers;


martial arts, gymnastics or dance lessons;
music or language lessons;
sports training or sport matches; or
tuition classes.

Do robot talking by yourself or with others whilst:

playing at a park;
playing with toys;
reading a book, newspaper, magazine, ebook or internet website;
making or doing art or craft, e.g. painting, sculpting, sewing, designing, cut-
ting;

going for a swim in the backyard pool or cleaning the pool;
riding a bike, tricycle, scooter or skateboard;
washing a pet;
watering the garden, doing weeding, pruning plants or cutting flowers;
mowing the lawn (but not while the mower is on!);
taking out the garbage or recycling;
watching TV;
playing a game on an electronic device;
washing the car or driving through a car wash;
helping to paint the house or fences;
spring cleaning;
colouring-in a picture;
playing a board game;
playing cards;
completing a puzzle;
going for a run or walk;
visiting a skate park;
skipping;
rollerblading or ice-skating;
playing with pets;
visiting grandparents, cousins, other relatives or friends;
attending a dinner party or luncheon;
attending a playdate or birthday party;
attending a religious service;
attending a football match, other sporting match or cultural activity;
going on a picnic;
having a BBQ;
watching a movie (making sure you don’t annoy others!);
looking at stars or clouds;
visiting a rock climbing, trampolining or play centre;
eating at a restaurant, cafe or fast food outlet;
buying drinks at a cafe or milk bar;
going on a ferry, train, bus or light rail trip;
going on a car trip or road trip;
attending a children’s play or concert;
shopping for toys, clothes, food (e.g. discussing different outlets whilst shop-
ping - what does a baker/butcher do? What should we buy at the deli/veg-
etable shop?);
