Sundar Pichai
Pichai Sundararajan (born June 10, 1972), widely known as Sundar Pichai, is an
Indian-American business executive who currently serves as the Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) of Alphabet Inc. and its subsidiary Google.
Born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, Pichai grew up in Chennai. He earned a
B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, where he was a
distinguished alumnus. He furthered his education in the United States,
obtaining an MS from Stanford University in materials science and engineering,
and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania,
where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar.
Pichai began his career at Google in 2004, initially leading product management
and innovation efforts for products like Google Chrome and ChromeOS, and
playing a significant role in Google Drive. His influence within the company
steadily grew, and he was entrusted with overseeing Google's core products by
late 2014, including Google+, Maps, Search, commerce, advertisements, and
infrastructure. In 2015, he was appointed CEO of Google, and in 2019, he also
became CEO of Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company.
Under his leadership, Google has continued to innovate and expand its reach
across various technological domains. Pichai was awarded the Padma Bhushan,
India's third-highest civilian award, in 2022, in the category of Trade and
Industry.
Indra Nooyi
Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi (born October 28, 1955) is an Indian-American
business executive and former Chairperson and CEO of PepsiCo.
Born in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India, Nooyi exhibited early
academic excellence. She received a bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry,
and Mathematics from Madras Christian College, and a Post Graduate
Programme Diploma from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. She
then moved to the United States, earning a Master's degree in Public and Private
Management from the Yale School of Management in 1980.
Nooyi's career began in India with positions at Mettur Beardsell and Johnson &
Johnson. After her studies at Yale, she worked as a consultant for the Boston
Consulting Group for six years, followed by executive roles at Motorola and
ABB (Asea Brown Boveri).
She joined PepsiCo in 1994 as Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and
Development. Her strategic vision was instrumental in the company's
restructuring, including the spin-off of its restaurant chains into Tricon Global
Restaurants (later Yum! Brands, Inc.) and its bottling operations. She was
named President and Chief Financial Officer in 2001, and in October 2006, she
became CEO of PepsiCo, and later assumed the role of Chairperson in 2007.
She was one of the few female chief executives of Fortune 500 companies
during her tenure.
Under Nooyi's leadership, PepsiCo emphasized "Performance with Purpose,"
focusing on healthier products and environmental sustainability. She retired as
CEO in 2018 and as Chairperson in 2019. Nooyi has received numerous
accolades, including the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India in 2007
and induction into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2021. She is also the
author of the memoir, My Life in Full: Work, Family and Our Future.
