ing dunes and got to know the fauna and flora of the area. In the evening we watched a show by a Kashebian folk group and had a great time around the bonfire. Later, we admired the Polish students singing abilities in the karaoke show. On 19th April the teachers and the students played traditional games and later we visited a small town by the sea. April 20th was departure day for most of us except for the Italians who had the chance to spend one more day with the Polish teachers and students in the uncontaminated natural environment of the wonderful camp!! Last but not the least we are very proud of our two common products: the Greenow Dictionary and the Eco Tale. They are soon going to be uploaded in the common webite:

We left Sennels on May the 5th and arrived back home Saturday May the 12th. We went by train. A long but very nice journey. 34 hours out and 26 hours back.

We had the most unforgettable time
in this beautiful town visiting our dear friends at Scuola secondaria di primo grado G.Borsi. We played together, had lessons together, went to the beach together. And stayed at the most wonderfull spot, Montenero. Thank you Patrizia and all friends in Livorno for your hospitality!!!
We have invited the parents to an evening where we make powerpoint presentations about our trip and tell them about all we experienced. We will show the same to all the children at school as well. And put on comenius-site. So please remember to check the common website and the different schools websites for news!!
Our school has now become a Green Flag - school. To achieve this,
you have to work with different environmental issues and we most certainly did during the Comenius project. In short: you also have to have an environmental council of the headmaster, teachers, service staff and students. We have solar cells for electricity on the school roof + we have a very modern heating system not to waste
Issue 6
Page 7
any gas or electricity in our cold months. ( YES it gets very, very cold here in Denmark during winter time) The environmental council have to make goals for coming periods where we all, students, teachers and staff, have to contribute and tell about different things. This period is about collecting waste and knowing about recycling, degradation etc. We are all very surprised how much waste the students were able to collect in our village. When the final amount in kilos is counted, we will announce this on our comenius/school/site. Panikkos from Cyprus made our (Comenius partners) presentation videos etc. on youtube. We try to see them all in all classes, for everyone to know you better.
6th grade is working on an environmental newspaper. You will see the result of this on comenius/school/site. But they are looking into habits with transportation, electricity, healthy living etc. at home, making interviews and questionnaires among the other children at school and at home + on the street. They look in to what it means how we live and eat concerning transportation all over the world, if we fly + sail many food items + other goods from one side of the planet to another. They investigate how the children walk or go on bicycle to school instead of going in parents cars. They make comic strips about environmental issues to make us laugh as well. It does not always have to be so serious. There are many solutions for environmental problems and its a good thing to be able to have fun and laugh. And many other topics will be there as well. Wait and see!! In one class some children said we would like to go to school on our bicycles, but our parents says we have to go with them in our car 5th grade went to the centre of electricity distribution to hear about the use of electricity in our daily life at home and other places. How much energy different things eat and how often we just use energy without it being necessary. They try to cook the most energy-friendly way etc. Shortly, how to NOT use so much electricity. 5th and 6th grade went to Schools at University at lborg University. The students and professors at the University gave workshops about sustainable future, solar cells, chemistry, physics and all different interesting things. We had a fantastic day!!

We had a few
children, 5th and 6th with Belgium, Greece and Portugal. The chat sessions are so nice!!! If you have not tried it yet, ask your teacher to arrange one. Its great to see what you all work with, see your faces and classes. We get to feel we know one another. So far the chat sessions has been on subjects concerning our Comenius project. Its very exiting to get new ideas from you all and to see what kind of work you do.

We are at the end of our Comenius project. So now the big final is coming. On Sunday 3rd of june our children will present a big fashionshow for all their parents, friends, family, neighbours. What is special about this fashionshow: all the clothes are made of waste materials.
Sint Jan Berchmansschool, Viversel
The theme is the four seasons. During the previous weeks a lot of materials were collected. And the children enjoyed creating hats, juwels, clothes, handbags etc. All those creations will be weared at the catwalk. Are some of you thinking of getting married ? The apotheosis of the fashionshow will be a real weddingdefile with all the clothes for the suite, and of course the bride and groom. We are sure some of you will be jealous at the exclusive creations. Pictures of the fashionshow will be published later on our schoolwebsite.

Hi everybody! Here we are once again to tell you all about what we have been doing lately!
We went to Bydgoszcz, Poland, for the last Comenius meeting. We enjoyed it a lot! It was good to see some of the students we had met last year in Smoldzinski Las. They got taller! It was really interesting to get to see them at school with their teachers and parents. Its good to know that a year has passed and they still keep in touch with our Portuguese students.
More classes joined us in this Free Garden Plots idea! Students drew new plots, decided what to plant, started planting and watering. Our school gardens look prettier now. A 7th grade class started a new Cleaning Campaign - students divided into groups: some collected rubbish, some other sort it out, another group put it in the recycling bins and some other students made new labels for the recycling bins. The students from the kindergartens and primary schools made presents for Mothers Day out of leftovers and recycled materials.

Some of our students (6th and 7th grades) have been writing to their Italian and Greek pen friends. Singing for Nature - a class from the 7th grade chose a melody by the Portuguese band Xutos e Pontaps and wrote the lyrics. The new song was called Act Now and was sung live during a web chat meeting with Denmark. Web chat meeting with Denmark - a class from the 7th grade chatted on the web with the Danish students. They talked about what they did on the project and showed some photos, posters, recycled paper and recycled masks. Please, have a look at the photos!

Celebrating Childrens day: students from the Kindergartens and primary schools made their own gifts out of recycled materials. Students from our main school (Diogo Co) made traditional Portuguese games and toys out of old clothes, reused and recycled materials. Celebrating the Worlds Environmental Day: students and teachers rehearsed some theatre plays on the topic. The stage decoration and most of the students costumes and accessories were made at school with recycled materials and old clothes. Other classes read environmental stories and illustrated them, some other went for walks and picnics in the town parks and mountains.

Harvest time! After planting and watering our organic gardens it was time to pick the fruit and collect the vegetables. We ate some of the fruit, made jam and baked fruit cakes. Some of the vegetables were used as a top ingredient in our meals at school and others were sold in a schools market. We participated in the Schools Final Exhibition with all our green works, posters, toys, plants, fruits, vegetables (.), everything our students made throughout the school year for the project.

Hi, we've just come back from a wonderful project visit in Poland (Bydgosczc and Smoldzinski Las). As every time, we enjoyed our partners very much: we had the opportunity to visit the school and meet children, colleagues and parents. In Smoldzinski Las, where we had our meeting session, we enjoyed an uncontaminated natural environment on the seaside.

Just before our visit to Poland some of our classes had an environmental visit to one of our island of Tuscan archipelagus: Giglio. We wandered a lot in an interesting environment looking for plants and animal tracks.
We also had an interesting laboratory on sea biology: we spotted life in drops of sea water and enjoyed the view of tiny organisms floating in the clear water and seakelp.

One day of March, while we were at school, we asked to visit our city disposal plant. Experts took class 3i around the storage. We learnt how to select litter for recycling . And also how to use our disposal facilities in order to save our town environment. We'll tell our families, too.
Our students are still exchanging letters and e-mail with their school mates in the different Countries. In particular they are now writing to Danish and Portuguese classes and arranging a visit from a class of Thisted school, in Denmark. We all are looking forward to greet them to our school and town. We're going to have a wonderful time! Love to all our e-journal readers!

CYPRUS
Hello from Cyprus
Our school participates in the Comenius program with schools from 7 other European countries and has been working on the subject Go green, go clean, act now for a second year. For the purpose of the Comenius program, all classes have participated in numerous activities with enthusiasm. In this issue you can be informed about the festivities organized at our school for Europe day, our meeting with the responsible for environmental issues town councillor, and other interesting activities we conducted. You can find more information and relevant videos in our website
Europe day

The responsible for environmental issues town councillor visiting our school
Our school celebrated Europe day with an impressive festival. Our motto United in diversity. The festival began with an artistic show. The day continued with the students participating in various activity-stations promoting the acquaintance with the countries of the European Union and the Cyprus tradition. For example, the students played traditional musical instruments, learnt to draw on glass, got to know beautiful sights of Europe at the Comenius station, and baked traditional sweets. The outcome met our expectations since the students enriched their knowledge and at the same time enjoyed themselves. You can follow the links to see more of that special day:

The responsible for environmental issues town councillor Mr Andreas Karritevlis visited our school to be informed for the problems of the small park our school has adopted. Students of classes B, C, and F presented a number of the activities they undertook in the context of the Environmental Education lesson. The town councillor has committed to provide any help needed for the regeneration of the park. He also conducted the opening of the building project of the schools vegetable garden.

Creating souvenirs and canvas drawings
With Cyprus becoming the president of the European Union for the second half of 2012 our school has participated in multiple activities. One of them has been the creation of large scale canvas drawings with subjects related to European countries. The drawings will be used for the decoration of the capital during the Cyprus presidency. For the same purpose we made drawings of en-

Celebrating Earth day
For celebrating Earth day students and teachers decided to limit the number of cars we use everyday for our transfer to school. Some of us arrived at school on foot and many students organized to share the same car. It would be great for the environment to follow this measure on a daily basis.
Having our own composter
After learning interesting information on the way a composter operates and on its contribution to the environment we now have one at our school. It has been placed next to our vegetable garden so that we can put all the leaves in it and create fertilizer for our plants.
Acquiring new recycle bins
With the sponsorship of Marfin Laiki Bank and Green-Dot our school has received new recycle bins. The schools environmental committee has accepted the new bins with great joy and has thanked the sponsors for their significant donation.
Recycling clothes and old bags
Using newspapers and old buttons, ornaments, bits our students created and decorated skirts and bags. They also created bracelets and necklaces. With this enjoyable way we put into action our motto: Reduce Reuse - Recycle
Lecture for the Ozone hole
The voluntary group of the Environmental Committee organized a lecture for the Ozone Hole and its implications. The students of the E and F classes of our school participated with enthusiasm and had the opportunity to answer a number of questions on the mat-

Hi there! The last months of our project were very busy. The two classes that have worked on water and the sea, 2b & 3b, visited various centres where they made experiments based on water, learned about the circle of water and sea pollution.
They also visited a marina nearby and were informed about the various types of boats. They also became little captains for a few hours.

The 6th grade worked on energy and for the end of the project they examined the school footprint. After visiting all classrooms and other school areas, they answered a questionnaire and found out that the school building consumes more energy
They also made a PPT to present the energy problems in our school and made paintings and wrote poems about eco problems.
If all the above are done, we believe that we are going save money on electricity, paper and heating bills and of course save energy. Moreover the working conditions in our school building are going to be improved.
