Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 characters (played by a cast of four), some good old-fashioned romance and more. In this two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning play, The 39 Steps, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she's a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called "The 39 Steps" is hot on the man's trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale. This production's multi-talented cast includes Michael Thomas, who stars as Richard Hannay. Michael has appeared many times on the Richland Players stage, including the lead role of George in Of Mice and Men. Brianna Sacry plays three roles: Annabella Schmidt, Margaret, and Pamela. She was most recently in the Richland Players' production of On Golden Pond. Christopher Wilson is Clown One, playing characters including a salesman, housekeeper, policeman, and a vaudeville performer called Mr. Memory. Christopher is currently a sophomore in theater at Central Washington University. Sam Shick is Clown Two. Sam plays dozens of characters, including an old Scottish farmer and the mysterious Professor Jordan. You may have previously seen him as Alfred P. Doolittle in Richland Light Opera's production of My Fair Lady. The show is directed by Ellicia Elliott and produced by Ted Miller. Ellicia is the theatre arts director at Richland High School. She directed the Richland Players production of Doubt in 2008. Ted is very involved in many local arts organizations, serving with the Richland Players, ACT, and the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers.

An Enemy of the People
********************************************************************** Directed by Richard Reuther Characters:
Miller intended his adaptation of Ibsen's classic story of a man standing up to corruption to be a commentary on McCarthyism. Setting the play in the modern era, director Richard Reuther thinks the theme of whistleblower fits well in this region shaped by World War II and the Cold War. - Doctor Thomas Stockmann. The medical officer at the new Municipal Baths and the main character. - Mrs. Katherine Stockmann, his wife. - Petra, their daughter, a teacher. - Ejlif & Morten, their sons - Peter Stockmann, Doctor Stockmann's elder brother; he is the mayor of the town and thus Thomas' supervisor. - Morten Kiil, a tanner (Mrs. Stockmann's father), also known as the Badger. - Hovstad, editor of The Peoples' Messenger, the local paper - Billing, sub-editor. - Captain Horster. He's a shipmaster who is going to America and a friend of Thomas Stockmann. - Aslaksen, a publisher. - Townspeople: Men of various conditions and occupations, a few women, and a troop of schoolboys - the audience at a public meeting.
Notes from the director:
- The role of Hovstad the reporter will be available to a female actor. - There is a crowd scene in Act II for which 12-14 additional actors will be necessary; some of these roles have lines; these actors may be asked to volunteer to move scenery in Act I and II. Rehearsal of the full scene will be limited to the last three or four weeks of rehearsal to minimize the commitment. Performance call for these actors will be 7:45 PM to allow "staggered" use of the dressing room. - Costuming will be modern; "crowd" actors will be asked to use primarily their own clothing.

I hope all of you have had a great summer, spending time with family and friends and enjoying our beautiful Tri City sunshine. We have been very busy here at the theatre, starting with hosting a wedding in June and then the general membership meeting and BBQ. We are also working on a few upgrades inside the theatre -- new fabric covering the lights in the house, an upgrade to our sound system and *coming soon* new energy efficient windows upstairs. I want to say a to Tom Powers for his tireless efforts to raise funds for our wonderful sound upgrade. We couldnt have done it without you, Tom! There are so many people to thank around the theatre for their efforts in keeping a top notch organization. I want to thank all of you for everything you are doing -- our volunteers really do make us what we are. We have another very exciting season ahead at the players, starting with the fast paced madcap whodunit The 39 Steps. With this talented group of actors and production crew, it's sure to be a hit with our community. Thank you all for your patronage. If you want to volunteer for anything at the theatre, please contact our Andrea Prignano at volunteers@richlandplayers.org or 509-727-8924. It has finally happened! The Richland Players has hired their first employee. We're starting small -- the first employee will be running the box office. She's only part-time and we will still need volunteers to work alongside her, but here we go. Introducing drumroll please Jennifer Anderson! A long-time resident of the Tri-Cities, Jennifer has roots in theatre. As a Bomber, she worked behind the scenes doing publicity for Richland High productions. She is an avid patron of the arts, attending many Richland Players and Princess Theater productions. Of Mice and Men might have made her cry (didn't it make us all?), but she says Bell, Book and Candle is her recent favorite. We hope the consistency and professionalism she will bring to our box office will make all our patrons cry with joy!
