Director: Rick James!
Producer: Carolyn Parker

Rick James has returned to the Richland Players to direct the talented cast of On
Golden Pond. Richard Reuther and Sherry Teachout fill the rolls of Norman and
Ethel Thayer. Their daughter, Chelsea, is portrayed by Players veteran Christy
Humann. Chelsea's boyfriend is able actor Rufus Howard and her old flame is played
by Mark Miranda.

We invite you to give a big Players welcome to newcomer Dylan Page. On Golden
Pond is his first role on stage and he his stepping right into the role of an obstinate
teen. It helps that he is a teen, but we are very glad at rehearsals that he leaves his
obstinacy at home. The cast is rounded out by Brianna Sacry who plays the Operator.
She is great to work with and should land many roles in the future. However you will
have trouble seeing her on stage during On Golden Pond as she acts through the
phone.

With a strong cast, On Golden Pond will be a great show to end the season. The script
gives you humor and drama and is so well written that the relationships portrayed will
strike a chord in us all. You can relate to wanting more from your parents, looking for
love, welcoming new family members, remembering past loves and unrequited love,
longing for acceptance, fearing that you will lose what you hold most dear and finding
a meaning for life.

Assisting Rick are Carolyn Parker, producer, Betsy Vance, assistant director and a
talented production staff of veterans and newcomers. Look for all of their names in
the program!

This play will make you laugh, sigh, groan, cry and dream of finding your own
Golden Pond.

Upcoming Auditions

The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow
Audition Dates To Be Determined Performance Dates: September 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21
with matinees September 15 & 22, 2013

The 39 Steps is a melodrama adapted from the
1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film
by Alfred Hitchcock. Patrick Barlow wrote the
adaptation, based on the original concept by
Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon of a two-actor
version of the play. Barlow had originally
intended to portray the character of Richard
Hannay, but focused solely on rewriting the
original version.
The play's concept calls for the entirety of the
1935 adventure film The 39 Steps to be
performed with a cast of only four. One actor
plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress plays
the three women with whom he has romantic
entanglements, and two other actors play every
other character in the show: heroes, villains,
men, women, children and even the occasional
inanimate object.
This often requires lightning fast quick-changes and
occasionally for them to play multiple characters at
once. Thus the film's serious spy story is played
mainly for laughs, and the script is full of allusions to
(and puns on the titles of) other Alfred Hitchcock
films, including Rear Window, Psycho, Vertigo and
North by Northwest.

The Presidents Pen

Welcome to Spring! It has been very busy at The Richland Players theatre these
past months. March 29 and 30, we were proud to host the AACT Region IX
Festival. Entering theaters from Washington, Oregon and Idaho represented
their states best in a chance to compete at the national competition this summer.
It was a jammed-pack weekend of theater with five incredibly diverse
productions. Congratulations to the Lake City Players from Idaho for its
winning production of K2. The festival was a great success locally thanks to the
30-plus volunteers who generously donated their time and talents to helping The
Richland Players put their best foot forward to the participants and our guests.
And much gratitude is extended to the local companies and organizations who
helped support our event; the biggest of those are the Fox-Vance Family
Foundation and Jack-Sons Bar & Grill.

The 2012-2013 season has been a very exciting one! The last show of our season
is On Golden Pond by Ernest Thompson. This slice-of-life family drama is
expected to be a big hit with our audiences, as it features an ever familiar story
and superbly talented cast & artistic team. You will want to buy your tickets
early for this production! We also encourage you to keep a look out for dates on
other upcoming events at the Richland Players theatre including our Volunteer
Appreciation Reception and General Membership meeting in June &
auditions for the first show of the 2013-2014 season The 39 Steps. Also a
reminder that 2013-2014 Season Tickets will be on sale starting May 3
rd
,
opening night of On Golden Pond. Season Tickets are available at the theater or
by mailing in the Season Ticket Order Form or during the Market in the
Parkway booth June through October.

Board of Director elections are sneaking up quickly, and there will be
three vacant positions up for election. If you are interested in serving the theater
administratively, please contact any Board Member to inquire about details and
be on the lookout for more information. Remember to "LIKE" us on Facebook
to keep updated on what is happening at The Richland Players.

As always, we appreciate your support and generosity, and we will see you at
the theater!!

Scholarship News

The Art Fuller (Richland Players) Scholarship Guidelines and Applications are
available at Benton/Franklin High Schools and Columbia Basin College performing arts
advisors' offices now. Players Post readers, please let high school seniors or college students
within the Benton/Franklin Transit area know that a chance at a scholarship to help them
continue on in the arts is available through their advisors. This year, the board has set aside
$750 for the 2013/14 scholarship, which will be sent directly to the college at which the
student is attending in the fall.

The Richland Players recently hosted the AACT Region IX Play Competition, and we are
grateful that they donated their gain to the Scholarship Fund. We are aiming to make this
fund self-supporting and appreciate any contributions. In the future, we would love to award
two scholarships: one for technical concentration or behind the scenes studies, such as
directing, costuming, lighting/sound, stage craft/set design, etc. and one for performing arts,
presentational work on stage involving acting.

To cut down on mailing costs and to speed the process, we are sending the Guidelines and
Application forms via email. Requests for information can be sent to Joyce Bean via
j.frijole@charter.net. Helping young theater-minded people further their studies is a worthy
outreach of the Richland Players. It can enrich the student's life as well as the arts
communities wherever they may live in the future. Any contributions earmarked for the Art
Fuller Scholarship Fund are always gratefully appreciated.

Joyce Bean, Scholarship Chair
