WHAT IS IBS SCORE?
Systematic and structured assessment
system that can be used to measure
the usage of Industrialised Building
Systems (IBS) in a consistent way.
Sets out the IBS Score formula, the IBS
Factor for each of the elements used
in the building, methods of calculating
the IBS Score, explanatory notes, as
well as sample calculations
OBJECTIVES OF IBS SCORE?
1. Provide a well-structured
assessment system for
calculating the IBS Score
2. Provide complete guidance
to all professional to evaluate
the IBS Score for any building
project
PRINCIPLES OF IBS SCORE
1. The use of prefabricated and precast components
2. Off-site production of components
3. The use standardized components
4. Repeatability
5. Design building component based on Malaysian
Standard Guide to Modular Coordination in Building, MS
1064.

Calculation Principle
1. Structural system
Sub-structure works (elements) are not taken into account in the calculation
e.g. Piling, ground beam, ground slab, underground car park etc)
The construction area includes car porch but excluding driveway, apron and
landscaped areas.

Exercise 1
Question
What is the IBS Factor for the following Structural components?
(Refer Table 1)
1. Insitu concrete floor with timber forwork + insitu column with timber
formwork + precast beam = 0.4
2. Insitu beam with timber formwork + Insitu column with timber
formwork + steel flooring = 0.6
3. Precast colum + Precast concrete floor + Precast beam = 1.0
4. In-situ beams with reusable formwork + In-situ concrete floor using
timber formwork + In-situ column using reusable formwork = 0.3
5. Steel beams + In-situ concrete flooring with reusable formwork +
Steel columns = 0.7
Calculation Principle
2. Wall system
-
Points are awarded based on the wall system used
Allocation based on the % of the length of the wall
system used
Point
Qw Length of wall system is used
Qst Total wall length of the building
Fw from Table 2
Calculation Principle
2. Wall system
-
External basement wall for earth retaining purposes
and toilet cubicle partition walls are excluded from the
calculation. For cavity wall, consider the two separate
skins as a wall.
Parapet and corridor must be counted in the
calculation

Notes (Table 2)
3. Other simplifying features
-
Points are awarded based on the utilisation of
construction methods or solutions that can
contribute to the objectives of IBS.
