This document discusses the history of the California Gold Rush in the 1800s and how people sought quick riches by panning for gold. It then draws an analogy that true riches can be found not in gold but by serving God through the church. Specifically, it highlights how the church has benefited from dedicated worship teams and is looking forward to a new pastor for college/young adults. It provides announcements about upcoming church events and needs for volunteers.

Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Strike It Rich
Gold fever engulfed the nation when gold was found in
California in 1848. Stories of quick and easy riches compelled
thousands to head west. Boomtowns sprung up such as
Deadwood and Tombstone. It was difficult and dangerous
work. In a letter to his cousin in 1850, a California miner
named Shufelt wrote home: Thousands will leave their
bones here. Probably one-half that come here will never
make enough to carry them back. Even with that negativity,
he still said that gold was plenty.
Experienced gold panners looked for streams with black sand in the sediment
and orange and yellow stains on the banks. These indicated that the right
geological conditions existed. Bends in the stream and rocks with an eddy were
good places to look. Even today, miners pan for gold and stake claims in 19
states.
You can truly strike it rich by serving the Lord. The conditions are perfect in
our church for anyone who wants to pay the price, dying to self by making
an eternal investment in others. Anything done outside the will of God reveals
those so-called opportunities as just pyrite, a shiny metal also called fools
gold. However, real gold cannot be scratched with a knife. Though Satan may
attack us and cut away at our convictions, the real disciple will still be obedient
to the Lord. They are giving thanks to God always because of the grace of
God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way enriched in Him (1
Corinthians 1:4, 5).
We have also struck it rich with those who use their talents, time, and dedication
to serve in the area of our Worship Teams. Music is a means to the end of the
glory of God, as we praise God in His sanctuary, with voices and instruments
(Psalm 150:16). Truly we sing to the Lord a new song. His praise is in the
assembly of the godly (Psalm 149:1), whether it is with blended or contemporary
styles. Our worship teams are combining this weekend so that everything that
has breath praises the Lord (Psalm 156).
We also believe that we have hit pay dirt with the coming in view of a call of
Rev. Troy Maragos next weekend. Be praying for him, Grace, and little Mia.
We look forward to what God will do with our college students and young single
adults, particularly those in their twenties. That is a very difficult to reach age
span as most of them have new independence, jobs, and a culture which pulls
them away from the Lord. God is bringing thousands of these young adults to
our area, just as gold which is heavy drops down from the current of a stream
and collects in the bend area. Eureka!
*There is a guest reception in the Commons following the Saturday night and
Sunday morning 11:00am worship services. Pastor would love to meet you!
