Reflections

Meera taught an outdoor math review lesson for her students. She set up several math-focused activity stations in the playground and explained the activities. Some weaknesses included students having difficulty throwing balls into baskets accurately and managing student behavior during that station. Strengths were that the activities were enjoyable, feedback was positive, and the lesson was finished on time with students cleaning up. While it was her first outdoor lesson, the learning outcomes were achieved as students practiced language and social skills through the interactive stations. For the next outdoor lesson, Meera plans to address the weaknesses in ball throwing station management.

Number (15) lesson.

Today, in math, I taught number 15. The structure of the lesson was, getting the students in
the carpet, counting the blocks and showing students the number shape. Before sending the
students to the tables. I gave the students instructions about the activities and what they are
expected to do. In this lesson I had some weaknesses and strengthen that am going to discuss.

In the weaknesses, what I think I need to develop and improve are the next few things. Firstly,
I should more careful and organized about the lesson structure. Because, I felt that it was
unclear. Secondly, I think that there wasnt any inspiration in the lesson, children were so quiet
and I felt that they werent managed, its like theyre in control and that didnt make me feel
good about myself. Thirdly, I need to give the children more of a positive feedback on their
work and questions.

The number 15 lessons strength are, despite the weaknesses that I had I think that I had a
strength in the lesson. First, the activities, they were enjoyable and easy to follow with. The
children were enjoying and working nicely in the activities, also, they have asked me if they
can complete the rest of the activities in the second math class. Second, the level voice, I had a
good voice to connect with the children whether I worked with the individual, in groups, or as
a whole class. Third, my interaction with the students they were engaging and responded
positively with the lesson.

In the end, I think that the lesson was successful. The students showed good respond and they
did a great work in the activities. I was able to achieve the learning outcomes. The students
were able to identify the number and practice writing the number in each activity and table.

(One more) lesson.

In todays lesson, I taught a math concept which is (One more). The lesson structure for the
one more lesson is that I used the puppets to introduce the concept. Then, I asked the students
to turn around to explain the activities. In this lesson, I had some weaknesses and strengthen
that am going to discus in this reflection.

In this lesson weaknesses were, I had some weakness that needs to be improved need time.
Firstly, the classroom climate was not good. The children were feeling hot and they asked me
if they can turn on the A/C. So, next time I need to work on the classroom climate with the
children can feel comfortable in the classroom. So the next weaknesses are attached or
happened become of not giving the right instructions. So, I forget to give the whole children
instructions about the carpet activity. As a result, I didnt have a good observation and checking
of each group, and that lead to not having a management on children behaviours, and I couldnt
do any assessment.

In the strength, I could say that I had a good points that I can mention. First, time management
was good, I was able to complete the lesson and finish it on the time perfectly. Second, the
activities, were fun, the children liked using colours and printing with their fingers. Third, the
lesson structure, was better than the last time. Ive tried to be creative about how to teach the
concept. As a result, Ive used the puppets to do a storytelling. I know that it was successful,
as the children were responding to my storytelling and they would make the sounds.

I do think that the lesson successful, the students were excited, they like the activities and
experiencing the activities and using the fine motor skills. I think that the lesson outcomes were
achieved. The students were able to catch up the concept of one more.

Letter (z) lesson.

Today, I taught a literacy lesson which is letter (z). In this lesson, I review the pervious
lesson with the students. Then, I introduced the letter by reading the flashcards and ask the
students to listen carefully to identify the lesson. Then, I asked each student to trace the letter
shape. Then, I give instructions for the tables activities.

In this lesson, I had some weaknesses that I need to pay more attention to it next time. I teach
this lesson. First, tracing the letter shape took a lot of time. The students didnt pass the
flashcard quickly. I think next time I need to provide more flashcards to avoid wasting time.
Second, is the carpet activity, I provided play dough for students, and that made them go so
excited. However, the play dough that I made was so sticky and the table students were so
annoyed with the carpet students, because they were so loud.

However, I had some strength in the lesson. First, the lesson structure was smooth. The lesson
was easy to follow up to. The students didnt face any problems with the lesson. Second, the
way to let the students identify the letter sound. I was aiming to develop their listening skills
and they were able to pick up the letter sound fast. Second, the activities were fun and enjoyable
students liked the idea of creating their own zebra. Beside, their zebras were used and displayed
on the presentation board for the classroom.

I think that the lesson was successful, the students were able to recognize the letter sound. They
had to chance to practice writing the letter on the tables, and by that I achieved my learning
outcomes with the students. I was proud with the students work is displayed on the presentation
board in KG 1 corridor.

Letter (z) lesson: Review.

Today, Ive review a literacy lesson which is letter (z). Ive worked in improving the
lesson structure as its the second time I teach this lesson. Ive started the lesson by asking the
students about the letter that they learned before. Today, during the carpet time, Ive review
the letter sound and shape. Ive also practiced the letter song with the students. Then, I give the
students the groups instructions.

In this lesson, I had two weaknesses that I need to be more focused on. The first weakness was,
the activity where students use the dots sticker to follow the letter shape. One of the girls, called
(Rimsha) she did the activity many time and she didnt want to share the materials with her
group. I need next time to make action towards her behaviour. The second weakness, is the art
activity, which is creating the zebra, the students didnt organize the table, so I had to call them
again to tell them to tide up the table to make it workable for the other groups.

However, I had better strength in the review lesson comparing it to the introducing the letter
lesson. The lesson structure was smooth and easy to follow up to. The students liked singing
the letter song and making the action. First, the activities were easy and they learned a lot from
them. The rewarding system that I used, I used a good amount of positive feedback to students
behaviour and work. This time, I had good and enough time to evaluate students understanding.

I think that review lesson was successful and productive. I was able to achieve my learning
outcomes. I was able to evaluate students understanding where I had a enough time to checking
each student work and understanding. Students like redoing the activities again. I had a better
management system, because, the last time using the play dough caused a misbehaviours.
However, using the blocks this time was a good idea.

(Outdoor) lesson.

Today, I had an outdoor lesson and activities. The activities were a general review about
the math lessons that they did during this term. The structure that I had are taking the students
to the playground then, I explained each activity and ask one of the students to come to do the
activity to make it easier for the other students to apply the activities.

In this outdoor activities, I had two weaknesses that I need to work more on them for further
improvement. The first weakness, is the activity where students should throw the balls inside
the baskets. Some had difficulty to throw the balls, some students would interpret and stop
others from throwing the balls, some would throw balls on the basket and they wont even look
and the flashcards that were on the baskets so they would throw the balls randomly. The second
weakness is I couldnt manage the students behaviours in the throwing balls activity and that
didnt allow me to observe students in other activities.

However, in my first outdoor lesson, I had some strengths. First, the activities, were fun and
enjoyable students like the activities and they didnt want to go back to the class they wanted
to play more. The jumping and classifying activities were well managed. Second, the positive
feedback that I had for the students they were active and they were doing the best of them to
receive feedback. Third, class time I was able to finish the lesson on time and asking the
students tide up.

I think the lesson was successful as its my first outdoor lesson that I do. The learning outcomes
that I had were achieved. The students were capable of learning and improve their language
and social skills during the activities. I was satisfy with my work and my lesson and that
allowed me to have good experience.

Outdoor lesson: (Review math)

Ive review the lesson and applied the activities again as the students enjoyed being
outside. The time, Ive made some changes on the lesson structure. Ive explained the activities
in the classroom firsts and then I took them to the playground. In the class, Ive greet the
students and then I review the playground rules. Then, we moved to the playground.

In this lesson I had one weakness that I surely need to work on for further improvement. This
weakness is giving more feedback and motivate students. I didnt give a good amount of
positive feedback. I think that the time and the amount of excitement that the students were
feeling and applying through the activities affected me.

In this math and outdoor class, I had some strength. Firstly, the activities were fun and students
wanted to apply different activities and move to other activities. Secondly, the classroom
management, I was able to manage students behaviours as the transitions that I did with the
students were flexible and on the point. Because, each student in the group had the chance to
experience each activity. Thirdly, the social skills, students were able to improve their social
skills and language. As, two activities were a group activities and they were able to work nicely
together. The proof for that is one of the girls called (Ayesha). She would never communicate
with the teacher. However, she communicated and talked to her peers.

I feel that the lesson was successful. As, Ive worked more in the lesson and the activities to
get them more engage. That shows as I had one weakness in the lesson which is the positive
feedback that didnt appear in the first time that I taught this lesson.

Reading lesson.

Today, I had literacy lesson which is reading. The reading lesson was in groups, the
teacher had two groups of students on the tables for reading and the rest went to the areas. Ive
worked with group number 2.

In this reading session, I had some few weaknesses. First, the voice level. Because, the students
were a bit loud in areas. The group that I had had some difficulties they couldnt listen to
instructions. As an action from me, I asked the whole class to work and play but with a quiet
voice. Second, one of the boys had some difficulties with the activities that I had for the group
and that made the rest of the students who were on the table start talking to others and they felt
lost because, they already finished reading but they couldnt go anywhere, as I was explaining
to their friend.

Also, in this reading session I had strength. First, the session structure went smooth and nice.
Each one of the students were able to experience the activities. They were interested in the
activities, they were helping each other on how to apply the activities. Second, my management
strategies were good, for the students that I felt they will start to misbehave anytime I got them
to sit next time. That helped me a lot in making the session go well and finishing the activities
on time.

In the end, I feel that the lesson was successful. The students were excited and curious to know
what they will do on the table. The learning outcomes were achieved, the students were able to
review and make the letters sounds, and also, I was able to assess students to fill in my check
list.

Story telling: (The Rhyming Rabbit).

Today, I had a story time with the students in the last class. The lesson structure, was
getting the students on the carpet. Then, using the masks for telling the stories. I wasnt able to
get the students on the activities. As, the story is a bit long and the time wasnt enough.

In this story telling, I had some weaknesses that I need to improve. First, is how to get the
students engage and attracted to the story. Because, some of the students especially the students
who were sitting at the end of the carpet. Second, some of the students were taking to each
other and playing with their shoes. That showed me that I need to work more on the classroom
management. Third, I need to be more aware of the classroom time and the story that I choose.
Because, the time was short and the story was a bit long. So, next time I need to balance
between the time and the story choice.

However, I strength in the story telling. I had clear and good voice. The story had a rhyming
so I was able to read the words correctly and use different voice levels. My facial expression
was good the students were able to understanding the story structure even though they didnt
understand the whole words. The questions that I had for the story were good. They were a
variety of questions about, math, literacy and fanciful questions. That helped me in assessing
students, identify their levels and improve their cognitive skills.

In the end, I think that the story was good and interesting. The majority of the students were
interested in the story and they were asking questions. However, the minority of them listened
and then they started to misbehave. I was able to achieve my learning outcome, even though I
didnt have the time to apply the activities.

Number 17 lesson (2 sessions).

In todays lesson, I taught a math lesson which is number 17. The structure of the lesson
was getting the students on the carpet, let them count the cubes, showing the students how to
write the number and then Ive send them on the tables to apply their understanding.

In this lesson I had some weaknesses that need to be improved. The first weakness, is the time
that I had on the carpet was too short and the way that I introduced the lesson was a bit boring.
I have to make the lesson interesting. As, one of the girls asked me if I can get mister monkey
to introduce the lesson. Second weakness, is the art activity was easy so some of the students
would finish fast and they would come to ask me what they need to do next.

However, during the two math session I had strength in the lesson. Firstly, the voice level and
eye contact was good. The students was able to follow the instructions clearly. Secondly, the
transitions, this time I change the way of doing transitions. The strategy that I followed was
displaying the pictures of each group and the number of the group that they need to go to. It
was successful, it saved time and the students were able to identify what they need to do next
without asking the teacher. Besides, it helped me as a teacher to make each group of students
experience and do all the activities. Thirdly, time management was successful, I was able to
finish the 2 sessions on time. Students were able to apply their understanding in all the tables.
Also, it allowed me to summarize the lesson and assess the students.

I think this is one of the best math lessons that I taught. It was successful and Ive achieved my
learning outcomes where students will identify the number 17 and the objects that represent
number 17. The activities were great and students showed a good engagement in learning.

Reading lesson.

Today, I did a reading lesson. The structure of this lesson is that I set up reading activities
in the classroom areas. The students worked in the role play area and reading area. Two groups
were reading in tables and each table was monitored by a teacher.

In this lesson, I had some weaknesses. The first weakness, is that the students were working in
the areas a bit loud and by that I had some problems with hearing the students that I was
assessing on the tables. Next time, I need to work more in making the areas students work in
the areas, but with a lower voice. Second, when I worked with the students in reading the
phonic books. One of the boys had a lower voice and dont blend the letter correctly. So, next
time I need to ask him to change his place and to come closer, or I can ask him to raise his
voice.

However, I had some strength in the lesson as well. Firstly, the management strategies that Ive
followed when, I asked the boy in reading time to sit next to me. It helped me in managing his
behaviours. Because, he didnt listen to any of my instructions. Secondly, the activities that I
helped for the students were helpful and easy to understand. They enjoyed the activities where
each one of them had his/her turn. Also, it helped me in doing evaluation and assessment for
their phonics awareness and sounds blending.

In the end, I feel that the lesson and table assessments were successful. The students engaged
in the table activities. I was able to achieve my learning outcomes which are assessing students
sounds knowledge and filling the checking list of the students literacy understanding.

Letter (v) lesson.

Today, I had a literacy lesson which is letter (v). The structure of the lesson was, getting
the students on the carpet, asking them to give guess about the letters that are in the envelope,
and reading the flashcards to make the students identify the letter sounds. Then, I took the
students to the A/C room for lesson appalment.

In this lesson I had few weaknesses that needs further improvement. First, the class
management during carpet time. The students were moving forward a bit and some got up and
walked around. That happened, because the students didnt have their playtime. I think I could
improve that by asking the students to do some physical movements on the carpet, before
starting the lesson. This lesson showed me the importance of including play in learning. Play
is essential for your childs development, it builds child confident, social skills and children
through playing learn about caring for others and the environment.

However, the strength that I had were more than the weaknesses. I had a good start for the
lesson the students were engage and curious to know what is inside the flashcards. I had a good
variety of activities, the students were active and theyve learned together, they were well
managed. Also, the transitions that I had during the activities were good. I feel that I was
relaxed and confident in teaching and that was obvious by the good voice that I had and the
clear instructions.

In the end, I feel that the lesson was successful, the learning outcomes were achieved. The
students were engage with the lesson during the carpet time even while doing the activities. I
like how the lesson structure went and I would like to reteach the lesson again with the same
lesson plan and activities.
