Lesson Reflective Summary 1

The kindergarten lesson focused on sorting animals according to their body coverings using videos, cards, and handling one characteristic at a time to avoid confusion for students who could not read. The teacher candidate reflected on whether the lesson's objectives were attained, supported student inquiry and understanding of science concepts, and how their content knowledge enabled learning construction; improvements for re-teaching would consider strategies, tools, and assessments.

Lesson Reflective Summary

Teacher Candidate for Science Endorsement: Purity Kamau

Instructor: Terri

School: Brumby Elementary School Grade: K

Lesson Topic: Sorting animals according to body coverings

The video and the cards really came in handy since almost all the students could not
read or write sentences. Handling one characteristic at a time while sorting avoided
confusion since some animals fall into more than category example- a bat has fur on its
body yet has wings to fly, some birds do not fly.

How well were the lessons student performance objectives attained?

Did classroom activity center on science understanding, inquiry, and sense-

making by all students?

Did your scientific content knowledge enable you to support students

construction of knowledge and understanding of important scientific concepts
and processes?

When you have the opportunity to re-teach this lesson, what will you do
differently (strategies, teaching tools, assessments, etc.) to improve student
learning for all students?
