14, Why do you want to be a Cook County judge? After practicing for nearly 20 years as a criminal
defense attorney, I understand the need for judges that have not only legal knowledge and
experience but life experience that gives them iisight into the community in which they sit. Iam
from the South Side of Chicago and have a deep understanding of this community. I also have the
‘compassion and temperament necessary to be a fair and competent adjudicator.
15. What are the most pressing issues facing the justice system and why? The most pressing issue facing the
judiciary is understanding the judges role in the fair administration of justice and why it is
necessary to confront the issues of mass incarceration. I believe judges have a role in effecting
‘community change by evaluating each defendant individually and, if appropriate, coming up with
alternatives to prison for non-violent offenders. The judge must continue to be involved when
individuals are placed on their probation call to make sure that they are getting back on the right
track and that they are aware of programs that can assist them.
16. How will your experiences help you serve as a good judge? My professional experience as an
adjudicator and my life experience growing up on the South Side of Chicago has prepared me well
to handle the challenges I will face on the bench.
17. What do you wish voters knew about you? Voters need to know that I am not beholding to any party
or politician. That I love this community and believe that I will be strict but fair and compassionate
if given the opportunity to serve on the bench.
