PROCEDURE
Height Work
Name of the Project : Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad, Package-4A

o Any work being carried out at a height of 2 meters or more is to be


considered as Working at height.
o Provide and ensure safe access and working platform for the working at
height.
o Provide lifeline of suitable material like manila rope of 16mm diameter
for anchoring the belt.
o Ensure all the hand tools like spanners, big hammer, bending dye are
anchored with chain or with suitable rope to arrest their fall from the
height. Do not keep loose material on the platform.
o Dropping of material from height should be strictly prohibited.
o Ensure that all the employees wear and anchor safety belt while working
at height Ensure that the safety belt is ISI marked (BIS approved).
o Do not tie safety belt at lower elevation than the working level of person.
o Isolate all the flammable materials before carrying out hot work like gas
cutting at height.
o When persons are working at height, warn people below through display
of caution board and cordon off the area if necessary.
o Ropes, slings, or bucket used for carrying materials to or from an
elevated place should be inspected before use.
o Work at height should be performed in good day light, preferably when
strong winds not existing.
o Obtain height pass/safety work permit for working on unguarded
height.
o Ensure that the structural steel is handled as per requirements and under
strict supervision so that it does not falls or gets misbalanced.
o Tie the gratings or planks securely.
- Provide railing for all the platforms with the following specifications.
Top Rail at Meter height & Mid-rail at 0.765 Meter height
respectively. Also provide Safety Nets or cloths.

Mobile elevated working platforms (MEWP):- safe operating requirements

o The mind and top chains, railing and gate enclosures must be in the closed
position before elevating the device.

o The maximum operating weight capacity will not be excedded.


o MEWPs will not be used as crane.
