Light Reflection Challenge

The document describes a reflection relay activity where students work in teams of 3 with handheld mirrors to reflect a laser beam from a fixed source to a target within 10 minutes. It explains the laws of reflection that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection and discusses how changing mirror angles changes the path of reflected light. Guidelines provide rules for the activity and tips suggest holding mirrors close to stabilize the beam and spreading out to give it room to travel between mirrors to the target.

Preparation
● Understand how changing the angles of mirrors
changes how the light is reflected
● Practice at home with a light source and mirrors
Guidelines

● 3 members
● 3 handheld mirrors
● 1 laser from a specified source directed straight ahead
● 1 predetermined target
● Time limit: 10 minutes
● The light must hit all three mirrors before hitting the target
Tips
● Hold the mirror to your chest. Move the mirror by turning your body.
This will prevent the laser beam from wiggling around
● Spread yourselves out! Your team will have the entire room, so use the
space! If you’re crowded into a tiny circle, the laser won’t have
anywhere to exit.
