PROFESSIONALISM
Katelyn demonstrated a high level of professionalism and dedication to the teaching profession. She responded
positively to any comments or suggestions I made, and incorporated these into her daily lessons. Katelyn was
able to adapt readily to changes in scheduling, often with little notice. She displayed flexibility in adapting to the
demands of a very busy classroom. Katelyn's punctuality and careful preparation of lessons enabled her to
achieve success.
DIVERSITY AND EQUITY
Katelyn created an atmosphere of mutual respect and caring in the classroom by treating all students with
respect and care. Her friendly disposition and genuine interest in the children enabled her to develop rapport
with all students. She was sensitive to the needs of a range of abilities, including students with special needs
and second language learners. Katelyn built on the existing structures and format of the classroom to maintain
a comfortable learning environment for all.
INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL / COMMUNITY LIFE
During her placement, Katelyn made herself available to run a daily LLI reading program with grade one
students, and helped with the grade three "Swim to Survive" program at the local community centre.
UNDERSTANDING CURRICULUM AND THE LEARNER
Katelyn has a good knowledge and understanding of the Ministry guidelines and Ontario curriculum. She
developed activities that were tailored to the abilities of the students within the required curriculum. She
demonstrated a clear understanding of how to manage students with differing needs and how to monitor the
behavior and working environment of the whole classroom while giving her attention to an individual or small
group.
ASSESSMENT, PLANNING AND INSTRUCTION
Katelyn demonstrated a sound understanding of the Ontario curriculum and the diverse learning styles of
students in the class by planning lessons that were engaging, effective and purposeful. She made use of a wide
range of teaching strategies to address the differentiated needs of students, including small group activities,
paired work and whole class discussions. In implementing her lessons, Katelyn used a range of resources to
support student learning, such as visual aids, materials for hands-on exploration, and current literature. She
linked concepts within and across curricular areas and was able to teach material in a progressive, focused and
organized way. Katelyn was involved in daily marking and used assessment tools that included the students,
such as self-assessment and conferencing. She used both direct and student-centered methods of instruction.
Katelyn provided opportunities for questioning and inquiry.

of all learners. She continued to promote a safe and nurturing learning environment, and built strong
relationships with the students. She was confident and comfortable within the classroom routines. I enjoyed
