Day 1: 26 April, 2018
Mr. Muhammad Altaf
Mr. Muhammad Altaf is a Final Year Student doing Electrical Engineering from SEECS. He is from
Rajanpur, Punjab. We first met today at 7:00 PM after Namaz (Maghrib) at Library.
I asked him a few questions and he answered as below:
Q1. Guess where am I from?
Guess 1: Hmmmm, KPK ? Nah!
Guess 2: Balochistan? Na!
Guess 3: It must not be Punjab so Sindh?
Yup! You got it! I am from Jacobabad, Sindh. Do you know Jacobabad is one of the hottest cities of
South Asia! And we have an American Airbase in Jacobabad too. There are some 20-30 American
Soldiers on the Airbase.
Q2. So you have completed almost your 4 years at NUST. How was the
experience?
Of course, you learn a lot at NUST but at the same time if you are not pro-active enough you feel a
little left behind too and regret about things.
Q3. What are the two things you regret most?
1. Not joining any Society
2. Wasting my Summers
Q4. What are you doing in your FYP (Final Year Project)?
Something related to DIP (Digital Image Processing).
Conclusion: The Most Important!
Mr Altaf seemed to be from a backward area and as a general trend I have observed that students from
such areas usually try to avoid joining societies (in universities) and hence miss a big part of their social
life. Another issue that I generalize from the conversation that such people from backward areas are
more shy, less social (Don’t interactive or hang out with people) and introverts like! Despite that if
you go talk to them they are the nicest people you will see. They have very strong morals and values.
They are Pure, Positive and Honest.
Day 2: 27 April, 2018
Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim Nazir
Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim Nazir is from Muscat Oman originally from Rahim Yar Khan Pakistan. He is
working in a Telecom company in Oman. He likes to connect with people around the Globe and learn
from friends. Apart from his Job he is also going to start blogging site on travel and tourism. We just
connected today via Facebook.
I asked him a few questions and he answered as follow:
Q1. Can you please tell what do you specifically do in Telecom?
I am not in technical side but I’m looking after Admin part, procurement and logistic. My company works
with Huawei, Ericsson, Matrola etc. Currently we have RF Project, Drive test , IBS
Q2. I was curious when and how did you first go to Oman?
Oh not have good experience. I just got visa from agent which was very expensive and spent around 3-4
months. But thank to Almighty ALLAH after 4 months I got opportunity from Multinational Company so
since 2014. I am working in same company.
HE ASKED ME: Are you also interested in Telecom specialization or Electrical Side?
I replied: “Very honestly speaking I am more inclined towards Solid-State Electronics, Computer Architecture and
Robotics Stuff.
He added “Nothing more in Telecom to be Honest. I think future is robotics and AI.
Q3. Can you please elaborate “Nothing more in Telecom to be Honest” ?
Yeah sure, that’s just my experience. More saturation in this field, network almost established so not
too much work on ground level. Second reason China “Huawei” due to pricing strategy. Suppose before
here in Oman salary of RF was more than 2000 OMR (Approx 6 Lac PKR) and RF salary start 700 to
1500 OMR and Drive Test Engineer available on 300 OMR salary. Ericsson almost out or now using
same strategy as Huawei using. Let me share one thing: Huawei installed equipment here totally free
but they will not only sale services so who will compete.
I added “Reliance JIO is doing the same in India”.
Q4. In my contacts, most of People are Students specifically from Engineering
Background. What do you think is there for them in Oman?
In Telecom there are a lot of Pakistanis. However if you are talking about IT related yes there is scope,
market is small but in IT filed Indians are more. TechMahindra Group is a world big IT company so in IT
we are getting big projects in Oman.
