1.0 Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to provide guidelines for calculation of power

consumption for instrumentation items including DCS, PLC and field
instruments such as flow meters.

2.0 Scope

This document provides guidelines for estimating power consumption for

various instrument items including DCS, Analyser systems. This power
consumption shall be used for initial sizing of UPS for instrument items by
Electrical department. However this value must be cross checked with actual
power consumption after finalization of DCS and other Vendors.

3.0 Responsibility and Authority

Lead Engineers is responsible to thoroughly check and discuss with Vendors

any large variations from these estimates before taking any corrective actions
by informing to respective departments.

4.0 Reference

6.1 The following estimations may be used to calculate maximum power

consumption/heat dissipation of various items being specified for DCS, PLC

being located in control room. For items not listed, reputed vendor catalogues
may be considered.

6.2 This information is required by the Electrical Department for the procurement
of UPS.

6.3 In case UPS forms a part of DCS material requisition, same guidelines shall
be used for initial estimates. UPS sizing factor and surge current
requirements must be finalized with DCS/UPS Vendor before finalizing UPS
size.
