I wonder why Ronald felt disappointed by receiving
                        a small gift?
                     Have you ever felt disappointed?
I wonder if Ronald felt lonely?
I wonder what made Ronald realise his family was
                        the best gift of all?
I wonder how you can show you family how special
                        they are during this time?
          Lesson Steps:
             - When people of God’s family get ready for Christmas they
try their best to live how God would like
How does God want us to live?
What does God like us to do?
God wants us to be kind and loving, during this time
we need to try extra hard to act in that way.
25 - Followers of Jesus show their love as they help to prepare
minutes
and celebrate the birthday of Jesus.
             - Ask students;
How do you feel when someone is kind and loving
                         to you?
I wonder what way you can show love and kindness
                         during this special time
             - Discuss the ‘Christmas Spirit’ and the ‘Spirit of Giving,’ that
Christmas is not all about buying gifts, sometimes we can
give ‘non-material gifts’ that show love and kindness that
                are just as special.
             - Ask students for ideas about what things they can do to
show love and kindness during this time
I wonder how you can show love and kindness?
Going around the circle ask each child for an idea
on how they can show love and kindness, record
                         ideas on the board.
I wonder how you feel when you help someone
                         else?
             - Children are to return to their seats and create a card to
give to an important person in their life. Coloured card, assorted paper,
Card and other craft items will be out on the desk craft materials, crayons and
                                                                                 pencils.
                         for students to use.
A piece of paper will be given to the students to
write on which will be glued into the card
             - Children create ‘good deed’ vouchers which specify a non-
material gift they can do for a loved one. Appendix 1
                                                                                 Appendix 2

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)
minutes      - Children return to the mat, ask a wonder question;
I wonder why God wants us to show love and
                      kindness?
I wonder how we can act in a way that God wanted
               to in the class?
How can we show love to the members of the
               class?
   - Invite children to join in prayer, start by making the sign of
the cross and say each line and children repeat.
            Dear Lord,
Thank you for the gift of Jesus, the gift of your love.
Help is to also give loving gifts of kindness, this
               Christmas and always.
               Amen.
Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)
   - Children will have science after this lesson.
   - Children are asked to move off the mat and pack up their
       desks.
   - Children will be asked to get a drink if they want it and line
       up at the door.
   - While children are waiting for the science teacher to collect
them we will practice skip counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will they be
assessed?)
   - The objectives will be assessed through a checklist and the
work samples that children would have created during the Appendix 3
      lesson.
   - Informal assessment techniques such as observations and
anecdotal notes can be used to assess if the children could
identify ways in which people can show love to God and
      others.
