Artifact 17

This document summarizes an Affective Curriculum Unit created by Katelyn Thompson for her Applied Project. The 4-week bibliotherapy unit is designed for kindergarten students but can be adapted for grades 1-2. Each week focuses on a social-emotional topic integrated with reading, such as perfectionism, emotions, cooperation, and responsibility. The unit serves as a resource for K-2 teachers to incorporate affective learning into reading instruction, especially for high-ability small groups. Developing the unit took several weeks of research, resource gathering, writing, and testing in Katelyn's classroom, requiring a moderate level of time and effort.

tab for Bibliotherapy, which includes the Affective
Curriculum Unit I created for my Applied Project.
This is a 4 week unit that can be implemented
during small group reading instruction for
kindergarten and is easily adjusted for first and
second grades. Each week students can learn
about social-emotional topics integrated into
reading content through a bibliotherapy strategy.
Students can work through different social-
emotional needs like perfectionism, self-managing
emotions, cooperation, and social responsibility.

needed.
