Curriculum Unit I created for my Applied Project.
This is a 4 week unit that can be implemented
during small group reading instruction for
kindergarten and is easily adjusted for first and
second grades. Each week students can learn
                                                 about social-emotional topics integrated into
reading content through a bibliotherapy strategy.
Students can work through different social-
                                                 emotional needs like perfectionism, self-managing
                                                 emotions, cooperation, and social responsibility.
How this item informs your goals. This unit serves both as a resource and a model for
Significance in your Practicum/Internship K-2 teachers in the area of how to incorporate
experience. affective learning into regular instruction,
particularly for a small group of high ability students.
It informs my practicum by being a component of
the OneNote resources I developed to share with
                                                 teachers.
Acquisition Challenge Level (considering Level 5
time, effort, money, etc. on scale of easy = 1 This Affective Curriculum Unit took several weeks to
to difficult = 5) create, including time spent researching, pulling
resources together for the unit, writing the unit,
gathering the texts for the unit. The unit itself did not
cost any money to make, though I did implement
the unit in my classroom to assure its effectiveness,
and for this I purchased the children’s books
                                                 needed.
