Teacher Lesson Plan

Grade Level:1 Subject: Music

Lesson Aim/Objective: To learn a song, follow directions, use head

voice, and to listen to others while playing a game.

Materials:

Song: Doggy, Doggy where’s your bone?

Toy bone

Common Core Standards:

1.2.1 (using the voice in speech and song)

1.3.1 (Matching pitches, using the head voice)
1.3.2 (singing three-pitch [sol-mi-la] songs using echo and ensemble
singing)
1.15 (demonstrate manners and teamwork that contribute to success of
the classroom)

Instruction/Procedure:

Form a circle in the room using the line they come in.

Sing the song in full, then break it down into three parts and have them
echo until they are comfortable with the song.

Practice singing the song and putting hands behind back on the word
“who.”

Add passing the bone around the circle, and practice the response “I
stole the bone.”

Introduce the rest of the instructions, and play the game.

Assessment Activity:

This game is just for practice of using the head voice, and following
directions, but are asked to repeat if they are not demonstrating
those qualities to the best of their ability.

Follow Up:

See how much of the game they remembered next class that there is
some free time. This game is meant for free time.

Reflections

The students did a great job with this. They were attentive and
followed the rules pretty well. I only had to stop a few times to
remind some students of the directions to the game. I think I could
have explained it a little better, but overall the students knew how
to play the game for the most part.
