Bodegas Bilbainas
e

The origins of the winery dates back to 1859

when, following the crisis of oidium and
phylloxera in Bordeaux, the Bordeaux Savignon
Frères et Cie house decided to move to Haro to
produce and export wine to France. The so
called Barrio de la Estación de Haro, among
others, began to host what would become the
pioneering firms in Rioja wines: ten historic
wineries among which Bodegas Bilbaínas was
the most renowned.

In 1901, the company sold the Rioja facilities to m
a group of Bilbao businessmen, who built their ~ m d
monumental winery, with (3,000 m2) m
of underground wineries, and consolidated it as m )(
a reference mark in red wine Rioja. Very soon, m d
its quality opened the doors to other European )1() m ó

markets and, in 1925, Bodegas Bilbaínas was
d
honoured as “Supplier of the Spanish Royal m d

Bodegas Ramón Bilbao, S.A. was founded in 1924
although in the previous century, around 1896,
D.Ramón Bilbao Murga was already selling Ramón
Bilbao and Viña Turzaballa wines in his bodega in the
heart of Haro, in Las Cuevas street, while becoming
one of the pioneering winemakers.
In 1972 a joint-stock company was set up under new
ownership and changes were introduced, new facilities
being constructed also in Haro, which went on to )1 , d m)01. m

The winery owns 75H vineyard. The process of grape )1/ m m e

harvested, it is taken to the warehouse where there are

Conde de los Andes

Conde de los Andes winery was

founded by Federico Paternina in
1896. It’s located in the village of
Ollauri, in the heart of the Rioja Alta.
It is particularly relevant because it has
the oldest and longest underground
cellars in use (“calados” in Spanish) of
the entire region, being 1 kilometre
long and up to 40 meters deep under
the hill of Ollauri. s a m d m

These “calados” were built in two 6bObJRVlm m ,( d

Ferrer Bobet is the result of a passion for the world
and culture of wine of two friends, Sergi Ferrer-Salat
and Raül Bobet. Their project was started in 2002, and
in 2008 their first two wines were released. For their
initial wines, Ferrer Bobet have used hundred-year-
old Carignane and Grenache vines planted on some of
the best vineyards in Priorat.

CVA (Compañia de Vinos del Atlántico)
La Cartuja (by CVA) is a unique wine produced
in the Priorat region, one of the most
prestigious appellations in Spain. Priorat is
special due to the unmistakable mineral identity
that the licorella (volcanic Slate) imparts in its
wines. La Cartuja was born in 2007 with the
objective of bottling a special wine that is able
to capture the mineral identity of this unique
territory. A second objective with La Cartuja

was to make a Priorat that approachable and not m m d
alcoholic while young. Lastly and perhaps the m MIRU OOb
most difficult of objectives to accomplish was m
to make a wine of this pedigree at an d ((/ m

La Cartuja is a small production cuvee made
d
from organically grown and estate-owned, a
grapes located in the Carthusian Les Solanes m d
estate. It’s a fresh vision of Priorat, a wine that m 6F4 m

Castell d’Encus
S
The origin of Castell d’Encus stems from the
impact the location had on Raul Bobet in 2001
while he was looking for land that could reduce
the effects of climate change on vineyards
around the Catalan Pyrenees.
The elevation of the property (850-1000
meters), the excellent sun exposure and large
wooded area around it, along with its long
history make the place look privileged and s (() m Bb O 5RH W m

Tionio estate "Finca Asperilla" is in the Peñafiel

Dominio del Bendito
By Anthony Terryn:
The winery Dominio del Bendito was born in
2004, as the result of my passion and with the
support of my family. I found the vineyards of
my dream in Toro.
I bought small plots in one of the best vineyard

that never fails: La Jara. Most of the vineyard is
old or very old: 80% of the 13 hectares of
vineyards are over 45 years old and they were

Ladera Sagrada
The Ladera Sagrada winery of the Valdeorras
D.O. was founded in 1920. Ladera Sagrada has
the largest holdings of vineyard land in the
Valdeorras appellation, and the bodega makes
wine using only the best 20% of its grapes.
The vineyards are located in the autonomous
region of Galicia, in far northwestern ‘Celtic’
Spain, within the Valdeorras DO (Zone 1) in
Valdeorras district and within Orense province. m )1 ( d
The vineyards are in the mountain town of m m
Larouco, at 533 meters (1,749 ft.) elevation. The ( d
soil is composed of slate and granite topsoil, with m
d
a thin clay subsoil. This soil profile is poor in m m z
organic matter yielding 6 pounds of grapes per - d m
vine, compared to the average of 17 pounds per d m
vine in Valdeorras. The granite and slate soil . m m
surface warms up during the day, providing heat )/ d m
to the roots, encouraging the grapes to continue m m m

ripening even during the cool nights. Lower d
yields result in more concentrated grapes m
providing more flavor intensity to the wines. d

At the end of the 19th century, his son Cherubino

Cooperative located in the Gard Departement, west
of Villeneuve-Les-Avignon. In a region (including
the whole of southern France) where every village
has its cooperative, this one took a lonely path a few
years ago when it chose to vinify separately and
make single cuvées with the best plots of its 10
vignerons-members.
The Estezargues Coop, which was created in 1965,
did not stand out of the crowd at the beginning, and ra
m p d
Jean Francois Nick, who began to work there in k l
1989, was the originator of the individual cuvées m ra m
policy, that he put in place in 1995 after consulting dra
the vignerons. m m
Then in 1997-1998, he added the natural wine m
approach, which was even more daring for a coop. dra )1.- m
m
Denis Deschamps, the winemaker now in charge,
)101 m e ae m
began to work here in 2002, and continues to work d
along this approach : No external yeasts, no )11/ )110 m e ae
filtration, no fining, no enzymes, no SO2, only a m
little bit for bottling. d

Ask anyone for the best Alvarinho in Portugal and
people will point to the extreme north to the sub-
region of Monção and Melgaço, right on the

peach and tropical fruit aromas. Nortico is

Gaelic Cemetery Wines is joint venture between

Neil and Andrew of Pikes Wines, vigneron Grant
Arnold and the Barletta brothers Ben and Mario.
The brief for the partnership is quite simple and
that is to craft small volumes of super premium
Clare Valley wines that best reflect, vintage,
variety and the uniqueness of place.
The joint venture and label are named after the
originating vineyard site on Gaelic Cemetery s e
ep
Road, next to the historic cemetery of the region’s d m
Scottish pioneers. The label design reflects the m c
simplicity and minimal intervention approach that d
is taken with the wine. e m
The vineyard site is located approximately 3km d ü
n m
north of the township of Clare in a secluded valley
d
of the Clare Hills. The property is owned and m
operated by Grant Arnold who planted the site in ñ d ep
1996. Here the hungry soils are gravelly loam, m )11. d

Pike & Joyce is perched high in the Adelaide Hills
(593m above sea level) just 40 minutes from the
CBD with spectacular 180 degree views of the
hills, Onkaparinga Valley and beyond. Established
in 1998, our brand is a partnership between two
families who both share a love of the region, a
passion for food and viticulture, and a desire to
produce only the finest wine. The Joyce family, as x p m z-1
fifth generation horticulturists, and the Pike family, m ,( m

for the production of the highest quality cool m m zk
