Birth-Second grade teacher
• In order to teach Early Education (Birth-Second grade) you must complete Praxis
Testing and hold a bachelor’s or graduate degree. You also must have completed
three semester hours in the course of study regarding parental involvement and
family engagement. You must also complete a program of preparation or a
license to teach pupils approved by board, state, or commission. As well as having
experience teaching pupils under six years of age,and having six semester hours
of courses in early childhood education completed. You also must have thirty-five
semester hours in early childhood education for children developing typically and
atypically.
Elementary Subjects K-8 Teacher
• Completing the General License (The Praxis core). A bachelor’s or
more advanced degree from an accredited college or university with
forty-one credits of coursework in elementary professional education
consisting eight credits in supervised student teaching in elementary
grades, eighteen semester credits in methods of teaching elementary
subjects (literacy, language arts, mathematics, science, and social
studies), fifteen semester credits in elementary curriculum and
program implementation which is three semester credits of
coursework in advised subjects. Lastly eighteen credits in
mathematics(6), science(6), and social studies(6).
Middle School/ Jr. High
• You must have a bachelor’s degree or higher degree from an accredited college or
university. You also must have done a program of preparation for teaching middle or junior
high school education which is approved by the board. Twenty-four semester credits of
course work in professional education ( eight semester credits of supervised student
teaching in a designated level of middle/junior school, a course in the methods and
materials for teaching the major or minor, three semester credits in a course in a course of
study regarding education or curricular adaption for pupils with disabilities) six semester
credits of course work in – foundations, history, theory or philosophy, the curriculum,
pedagogy, or assessment for middle school, adolescent growth and development, the
nature and needs of the adolescent(social, emotional, cultural), class room and
management strategies, school, family, and community collaboration. Six semester hours of
bilingualism or biculturalism, educational technology, tests and measurement, educational
psychology, education of the exceptional child, multicultural education or educational
research. Lastly a license to teach and complete twenty-four semester hours.
Substitute Teacher
• Must hold a valid elementary or secondary license to teach pupils in a
program of early childhood education, special education or middle/Jr.
high or have a special license. In order to maintain a special license
you mist have sixty semester hours of credit from an accredited
college or university having an associates degree or higher.
Special Education
• For Adapted physical education you must have a bachelors or more advanced in
physical education or special education from an accredited college/university. Also
have eight credit of student teaching, a practicum, equivalent field experience, or one
year of verifiable teaching experience in adapted physical education and twelve
credits ( introduction to adapted physical education, assessment of pupils for adapted
physical education, methods and strategies in adapted physical education,
introduction to special education or education of pupils who have disabilities and
parental involvement in pupils who have disabilities.
• Exceptional pupils secondary grades-adult you must have a valid elementray, middle
school, and secondary, special educarion or special license. Three years of verified
experience in teaching a program, and three credits in one or more of behavior
management and mathods of teaching pupils who have specufu learning disabilities
parental involvement and methods of teaching pupils.
Reading Specialist
• You must contain a master’s degree and have three years of verified
experience as a teacher in a state-approved schools. You must also
have a valid secondary license, elementary or special license or
middle school or junior high school to teach. With that you must have
completed at least sixteen graduate semester hours of courses in
reading (foundations of reading, Etiology and diagnosis of reading
problems, Clinical practice in correcting reading problems and
research in reading.)
Art Specialist
• Must complete six credits of professional development education,
must obtain a masters in post-baccalaureate programs in state.
Library/ Media Specialist
• Have a master’s degree in any field. Also met all the requirements for
an endorsement as a school library media specialist and have nine
additional semester hours in curriculum and instruction and
educational or information technology. Three years of experience, in
state-approved schools or accredited private schools, as a librarian or
school media specialist.
Physical Education Specialist
• Approved program and preparation for teaching physical education in
kindergarten through twelfth grade or have a course of study
consisting of advised courses and twenty-two semester hours of
credit as a student teacher in a composite program in elementary
school, middle school or junior high school and high school grades
which is four semester hours of credit in elementary grades and four
semester hours of credit in secondary grades.
Music Specialist K-12
• For Endorsement to teach music you must have a bachelor’s degree
and completed an approved program of preparation for teaching
music or having twenty-two semester hours of preparation for
teaching music and have foundation of education.
• Endorsement as professional teacher of music you must hold a
master’s degree and have a 3 year of verified experience as a music
teacher in state-approved schools.
• Endorsement to serve as a music therapist you must have a valid
license to practice music therapy issued by the state board of health.
Educational Computer Strategist (Computer
Applications)
• You must have a valid secondary license or a valid license to teach,
and you must have completed nine semester hours of course work
including , three semester hours of course work in a course of study
that covers methods for teaching computer science, three semester
hours of course work that covers concepts in computer science, and
three semester hours of course work in course of study that covers for
teaching computer applications which include, Word processing and
the use of spreadsheets, communication and collaboration tools,
internet safety, and proper keyboarding techniques.
School Counselor
• Must have a master’s degree or advanced degree in school counseling
and must have a specialty credential as national credential as a
national certified school counselor issued by the national board for
certified counselors.
School Psychologist
• Endorsement to serve as a school psychologist is taking hers or his last
required areas of study in applicable area of training and having a
supervised by a representative of the educational institution which is
sponsored the practicum working with a person who holds an
endorsement as a school psychologist and is employed by a school district.
• An Internship in psychology where the interns period of service must be
started concurrently with or after the last required training in the program.
The period is two-full time regular consecutive semester or 1,000 hours of
supervised and practical experience and half of the period of the Intership
must be done at an accredited school system or atleast approved by the
Superintendent of Public Instruction.
School Administrator
• Must hold a masters degree or higher in educational administration
form a regionally accredited college or university.and submit the
Department evidence of 5 years of teaching experience as licensed
teacher in a program of early childhood education, kindergarten or
grades 1 through 12 or they must submit 5 years of evidence as a
licensed teacher in a program of early childhood education,
kindergarten or grades 1 through 12 and have thirty six semester
hours graduated courses.
Intended plan in educational career
• I plan on achieving my associates in College of Southern Nevada and
bachelors degree at the University of Las Vegas Nevada. I plan on
becoming an elementary school teacher from K-5.
