WHAT DO WE MEAN BY
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS?
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS REFER TO CLOSE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN PEOPLE,
FORMED BY EMOTIONAL BONDS AND INTERACTIONS. THESE BONDS OFTEN
GROW FROM AND ARE STRENGTHENED BY MUTUAL EXPERIENCES.

RELATIONSHIPS ARE NOT STATIC; THEY ARE CONTINUALLY EVOLVING,AND TO

FULLY ENJOY AND BENEFIT FROM THEM WE NEED SKILLS, INFORMATION,
PRACTICE INSPIRATION AND SOCIAL SUPPORT.
THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

5
FAMILY
• The concept of "family" is an
essential component in any
discussion of relationships,
but this varies greatly from
person to person.
• A group of persons united by
the ties of marriage, blood,
or adoption, constituting a
single household and
interacting with each other in
their respective social
positions, usually those of
spouses, parents, children,
and siblings.
FRIENDS
• The concept of "family" is
an essential component in
any discussion of
relationships, but this
varies greatly from person
to person.
• Friendship is a relationship
of mutual affection between
people. It is a stronger
form of interpersonal bond
than an "acquaintance" or an
"association", such as a
classmate, neighbor,
coworker, or colleague.
PARTNERSHIPS
• Romantic partnerships,
including marriage, are
close relationships formed
between two people that
are built upon affection,
trust, intimacy, and
romantic love. We usually
experience this kind of
relationship with only one
person at a time.
WHY PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
ARE IMPORTANT?
Healthy relationships are a vital component of
health and well-being. There is compelling
evidence that strong relationships contribute to a
long, healthy, and happy life. Conversely, the
health risks from being alone or isolated in one’s
life are comparable to the risks associated with
cigarette smoking, blood pressure, and obesity.
LIVE LONGER
• While "live longer" primarily
focuses on the quantity of time
we spend alive, it's also
intertwined with the quality of
life we experience during those
years.

11
DEAL WITH STRESS
• "Deal with stress" refers to
the strategies and techniques
we employ to manage and cope
with stressful situations. It's
about finding ways to reduce
the negative impact of stress
on our physical, mental, and
emotional well-being.

12
BE HEALTHIER
• "Be healthier" implies
taking proactive steps to
improve your overall well-
being and reduce the risk of
health problems. It's about
making choices that promote
physical, mental, and
emotional health.

13
FEEL RICHER
• "Feel richer" is a subjective
experience that goes beyond
simply having more money.
It's about a sense of
abundance, contentment, and
fulfillment that stems from
various aspects of life, not
just material wealth.

14
DEPRESSION
• Depression is different from regular mood
changes and feelings about everyday life.
It can affect all aspects of life,
including relationships with family,
friends and community. It can result from
or lead to problems at school and at work.
Depression can happen to anyone. People
who have lived through abuse, severe
losses or other stressful events are more
likely to develop depression. Women are
more likely to have depression than men.
DECREASED IMMUNE FUNCTION
• Your immune system can also be
weakened by smoking, alcohol, and
poor nutrition. AIDS. HIV, which
causes AIDS, is an acquired viral
infection that destroys important
white blood cells and weakens the
immune system. People with HIV/AIDS
become seriously ill with infections
that most people can fight off.
HIGHBLOOD PRESSURE
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
is when the pressure in your blood
vessels is too high (140/90 mmHg or
higher). It is common but can be
serious if not treated. People with
high blood pressure may not feel
symptoms. The only way to know is to
get your blood pressure checked.
