What is Orilissa?

Orilissa is used to treat pain symptoms from endometriosis, which is a chronic disease in women that can cause infertility, painful periods, and severe pelvic pain in between periods. Orilissa may also help to reduce pain during sexual intercourse.

Orilissa is an FDA-approved, prescription-only medication manufactured by AbbVie Inc. The active ingredient in Orilissa is elagolix. Orilissa is a GnRH receptor antagonist that works to lower levels of progesterone and estradiol, which are the primary female sex hormones. These hormones are the main cause of endometrial growth.

Orilissa is available as a 150 mg and 200 mg oral tablet. Both options lower estrogen by varying amounts so you and your doctor can choose the dosage that will work best for you. Like other medications, Orilissa may be used for other purposes not listed here.
