Brimonidine tartrate is the active ingredient in Lumify. It clears redness in the eyes that are caused by eye irritants and allergens like smog, dust, and smoke. Occasional eye redness may also be a result of excessive use of digital devices, lack of sleep, or swimming in chlorinated pools. Lumify works by decreasing the swelling of blood vessels in the eye and increasing drainage from the eye, leaving your eyes brighter and whiter.
Lumify is available in 2.5 mL and 7.5 mL bottles of 0.025% ophthalmic solution. According to the manufacturer, adults and children who are at least five years old may use Lumify up to four times a day. Before installing the eye drops, you should remove your contact lenses first. Then, use the dropper to apply one drop in each affected eye every six to eight hours. Wait at least 10 minutes before replacing your contact lenses. If you are using other eye drops, you should wait at least five minutes in between using Lumify and other products.
Lumify may cause dry mouth, drowsiness, and watery eyes. More serious side effects may include blurred or loss of vision. Call an eye care expert if side effects worsen.
Serious side effects include an allergic reaction, which usually results in itching, swelling, dizziness, difficulty breathing, or a rash. Ingredients of Lumify include brimonidine tartrate, benzalkonium chloride, boric acid, calcium chloride dihydrate, glycerin, potassium chloride, sodium borate decahydrate, sodium chloride, water. Hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide may be added for pH balance. If you experience an allergic reaction to any of these ingredients, you should seek medical help immediately.
