Pink Christmas ... for the cure!

Hi everyone.  Today I'm playing along with the Pink Christmas for the cure! challenge at Jingle Belles.  This is their special challenge of the year where Stef and Lauren donate $2 ea for each entry of this challenge to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  Thanks to Stef and Lauren for this wonderful challenge!

I started my card by heat embossing Snowflake Background (Hero Arts - retired) in white onto a mixed media card panel.  I then ink blended three colours of pink DOX inks:  Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Picked Raspberry to create a fun and bright sky behind a snowy hillside die (Sloping Hillside - Poppy Stamps - retired).  I cut out a second piece with the Sloping Hillside from silver metallic card and glued it over top of the white base, offsetting it slightly so it looks like the trees have snow-covered branches. :)  Finished the card by stamping the sentiment (Christmas Sentiments - Hero Arts - retired) in Silver Delicata ink.  Easy and fun card to make!

I thought I'd try the same ink blending paired with black accents. :)

This time I ink blended the sky in pink inks before adding a die-cut village (Winter Village - Penny Black) - this time in black.  Splattered my panel with diluted black acrylic paint before popping it up on my card base with a foam layer.  Stamped the sentiment (Bright & Light - Penny Black) in Kitsch Flamingo ink.

More Ink Blending (DOX inks) with Water Lifting

Hi everyone.  A few more cards for August's Group of Seven technique - Ink Blending (DOX Inks) with Water Lifting.

The card above uses three colours of Distress Oxide Inks (Saltwater Taffy, Adandoned Coral, Candied Apple).  LOVE this combination.  Gold heat embossing an image from the Thriving stamp set (Penny Black) and then water lifted the colour from the flower petals and leaves.  Subtle, but pretty!  Finished by splattering with gold paint and adding a gold heat embossed sentiment banner (Banner Sentiments - Penny Black).

I'm sending the above card to Penny Black Saturday September Challenge - Anything Penny Black Goes.

And this time, a Christmas card.  Just blended DOX inks - no water lifting.  

The background is blended DOX inks:  Shaded Lilac, Wilted Violet, Villianous Potion.  They look so pretty together! :)  First time using this stamp that I've had for a LONG time (AliExpress).  Because it's my first time using it, I'm sending the above card to NBUS Challenge #54.

Ink Blending 2 with Water Lifting - Group of Seven

Hi everyone.  Today is the Group of Seven Cardmaker's technique post and this month we are playing with Ink Blending of Distress Oxide Inks plus Water Lifting.

Group of Seven Cardmakers

There are several videos by Kristina Werner on colour combos listed on the Group of Seven blog.  The card above uses Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, Seedless Preserves.  I LOVE these colours together!

Once my ink blending was done and completely dry (also added anti-static powder), I used my heat tool to emboss my line image Blooming (Penny Black) with white embossing powder. 

I used a paint brush and plain water to paint over the image.  The water reactivates the ink and by simply dabbing with a paper towel, some of the colour is removed (this is called Water Lifting or Faux Bleaching).  I let my panel dry a little before adding the water a second time to lift even more ink.  This made more of a contrast with the ink blended background.

Once I finished the image, the flowers were masked and then diluted white acrylic paint was splattered overtop.   The sentiment (Smiles - Penny Black) was white heat embossed to finish the card panel before mounting it on a card base.

I really enjoyed these two fun and easy techniques.

The colours used for the above card are Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide Inks.  I received a few of these hello die-cuts from a sweet friend a LONG time ago.  It's perfect over the Winterberry Background (retired).

... and finally, a Christmas card using the blending technique (no water lifting this time) ...

I blending DOX ink Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers, and Mermaid Lagoon for the winter sky.  Tore two pieces of white card stock for snowhills and splattered the sky with white acrylic paint for snow.  The row of houses (Simply Celebrate Winter - Lawn Fawn) is stamped in black ink and heat embossed in clear before watercolouring.  The houses were die-cut with the matching die before being popped up for added dimension.  The sentiment is from the same stamp set.

Hi everyone.  This month our Group of Seven Cardmakers had fun Ink Blending on coloured card stock using Distress Inks.

Group of Seven Cardmakers

This is a resist technique, stamping the line image Poinsettia Poem (Penny Black) in versamark onto coloured card stock (Cherry Cobbler card stock - SU!), and heat embossing with Silver Pearl embossing Powder.  I blended Aged Mahogany Distress Ink around the image (leaving the center with no sponging), then added more blending (on the very edge of the card) with Black Soot Distress Ink.  To finish, I splattered with Shimmer Spray, which is silver and matched the image really well.  I stamped the sentiment (Christmas Sentiments - Penny Black) in versamark and heat embossed with the same Silver Pearl embossing powder onto a black sentiment banner.

This card was done fairly quickly, but it definitely makes a statement!

This card is done on Cajun Craze Card Stock (retired SU!).  The image is Radiant (Penny Black), stamped and heat embossed in Princess Gold embossing powder.  I love the coloured card base with distress inks Crackling Campfire sponged over top of the outside edge of the image, and then Walnut Stain on the very outside edge.  To finish, the sentiment (Special Sentiments - Penny Black) is stamped onto a black banner, heat embossed in the same colour as the image, and then attached at the bottom of the card.

Used Iris Elegance (Penny Black) line stamp, heat embossed in silver onto Elegance Eggplant card stock (Stampin' Up!).  Sponged around outside of image using Villainous Potion Distress ink, followed by edge sponging in Black Soot Distress Ink.  Splattered with Shimmer Spray (silver) and diluted white acrylic paint.  To finish, added a black sentiment banner at the bottom of the card with die-cut sentiment (Heartfelt - Penny Black), cut from silver metallic card stock.

This is one of my oldest stamps that I've had for over 20 years. :)  I thought it would work perfectly with this technique and I'm so happy how this turned out.  I used Soft Suede card stock (SU!) as the base, stamped Silhouette Grasses (Hero Arts - retired) image and heat embossed in Princess Gold embossing powder.  Distress Inks Walnut Stain and Black Soot where sponged around the outside edge of the design.  To finish, I stamped the same sentiment as the Radiant card above, Special Sentiments (Penny Black) onto black sentiment banner and heat embossed in Princess Gold.  The sentiment banner is popped up to add some dimension.
