What you need to be looking for is blue, semi-transparent, coin-looking things that hangs in the air. =)

Very easy quest. Western rune is actually "outside" the normal area, and NE rune is way up a hill - so be sure to be thinking in 3D and moving your camera angle around as you are questing here.

As for the arcane explosion - there are some effects that happen, but it's not really an arcane explosion as I was fighting a mob right after I finished the easter rune and the AEs didn't take off any HP from myself, my pet, or the mob. Just cosmetic, but cool anyhow.

Another insanely easy quest if you have a flying mount. When I landed, I didn't even see any mobs near the runes.

I had trouble finding the North-Eastern one. Here's how you find it.

1. Go to the tower in the town square.
2. Face directly north.
3. You should see a small hill this shape /¬--..
4. Walk north towards it
5. Tilt your view up slightly
6. You should see it on the peak of the hill

After you finish, he casts a spell that looks like arcane explosion; it doesn't seem to do anything.

I don't think you noticed the Dalaran-esque bubble around Kirin'var and the non-targettable mana elementals exploding upon touching them.

On completionof the quest, there is the no-damage arcane explosion (as already posted), as well as many elementals that appear similar to Mana-Seekers that come over the hills to the north. They are all headed to a constant arcane explosion just north of the road, where they die.

1. Building a Perimeter
• Accept the quest, Building a Perimeter, from Lieutenant-Sorcerer Morran at coords 57.4, 86.2 (Kirin'Var Village).
• Travel east to 59.3, 85.5.
• Use the Rune Activation Device, you were provided to activate the Eastern Rune.
• Travel northeast to coords 57.4, 82.8.
• Use the Rune Activation Device, to activate the Northeastern Rune.
• Travel southwest to 54.3, 86.0.
• Use the Rune Activation Device, to activate the Western Rune.
• Travel east to coords 57.4, 86.2.
• Turn in the quest to Lieutenant-Sorcerer Morran.

Anyone else noticed the arcane marks before taking this quest?

I thought for a second they were some sort of invisibilty detectors, from WC3. Or easter eggs.
Anyhow glad to see they were part of a quest, and those mages are pretty powerful even when they are dead. :o

Important: in order to complete the "Violet Tower" part of the "Into the nether" achievement, you also have to complete all the quests, including the dungeon quest into the Botanica.

Building a Perimeter

Use the Rune Activation Device near the East Rune, Northeast Rune, and West Rune. The runes can be found around the perimeter of Kirin'Var Village's Wizard Row and Town Square districts. Return to Lieutenant-Sorcerer Morran once you've completed the task.

	Activate Northeastern Rune (1)
	Activate Western Rune (1)
	Rune Activation Device (Provided) (1)

Description

We are prepared to try to construct a perimeter around the village using the energy source taken from the blood elves. I can't guarantee that it will work, but we have to attempt it.

Otherwise, the mana creatures will surely continue devouring the spirits of the fallen Kirin Tor.

Use this device at the small runes around the perimeter of town to release the energy there. If I've woven the field correctly, we should start noticing a difference once you've used the device at each point.
