Nxt (NXT) is a second generation blockchain and cryptocurrency which provides an integrated peer-to-peer exchange, allows users to create coins and assets, as well as having all the functions of a typical cryptocurrency. Nxt also caters for the storage of distributed data, which is automated according to market behaviour, and serves as an ecosystem for a multitude of blockchain services.

Nxt was launched in 2013 by an pseudonymous developer named BCNext on the Bitcointalk forums. When the original developer departed the project, the Nxt Foundation temporarily took over its development. Eventually, direction of the project was taken over by the Jelurida BV dev team. The lead developer is the pseudonymous Jean-Luc Picard.

Nxt uses proof-of-stake (POS), meaning the 1 billion NXT coins are all their will ever be, excepting some small inflation. NXT coins can be turned into tokenized assets which represent commodities, property, stocks, bond, and even conceptual ideas.
