Patreon - Alyssa Faden is creating Hand-Drawn City & Town Fantasy Maps

I back a large number of creators on Patreon. I back people that create content for our gaming community and beyond (I also support some musicians) I believe it is important to support those whose work you enjoy and creators that you respect.

I'm proud to call Alyssa Faden a friend, and not just because of her amazing cartography, but fuck me if her maps aren't some of the best available in our hobby, or is "hobby" the wrong word to use with her talent. Probably the wrong word. Heh

For as little as a buck a month you can support Alyssa via her Patreon and you could get access to the following (and the perks only get better with the higher support levels):
Follow my (Alyssa's) work and become part of the conversation and creation process.  At this level you won't receive the final hires digital maps I create, but you will be part of their creation, get to see how I do it,  and will have access to my hints, tips, and training guides.
- Access to the mapping discussions: see the drawing in progress, get hints and tips, and influence the design through Patreon-only discussion and polls!
- Access to the patreon-only video streams; watch me work, talk to me as I do it.
At the highest support level, you even get commercial access to certain maps.

The Tavern Chat Podcast has Over 20k Downloads! Thank You!

Three months ago, when I saw what Jason, Tim, Matt, and others were doing with the Anchor Podcast format, I figured I'd give it a shot myself. I didn't have plans to make it a daily thing. I had high hopes that within six months, assuming I'd last that long, I'd be averaging at least 100 downloads a day.

Three months and 20,000 downloads later The Tavern Chat Podcast is averaging over 210 downloads per day.

I'm as stunned as anyone :)

As The Tavern Chat Podcast has grown, so has the number of The Tavern's Patreon Backers. We've picked up eight in the last month, coinciding with the growth of the podcast. I can't thank the backers enough. They help keep me motivated.

Gaming news, rants, Kickstarters, OSR system reviews, freebie overviews, fundraisers and more, all on a daily basis. 95 episodes of your OSR Bartender.

Tomorrow night I'm trying something different. I'll be interviewing a Kickstarter Creator live on the Tavern's Discord Server. You'll be able to listen to the interview as it happens and ask questions via chat at 830 PM Eastern Tomorrow - I'll put I'm a reminder post in the afternoon.

Thank you :)

PS - Josh is still in need of assistance, and The Tavern, as well as Skeeter Green Publishing, are backing the first $250 raised by The Tavern's Community:

Tavern Chat Podcast - Episode 84 - The Voices in Your Head Will Make Them Believe

Ask anyone that has played in a game session with me, I love to use different voices. I feel it makes NPCs more memorable and furthers your players' ability to suspend disbelief.
Today I talk about using voices - accents and catchphrases, to make your NPCs come to life. I also talk about how the Tenkar's Tavern Discord Server has channels for third-party publishers and content creators.

The Tavern has Three New Patrons This Week

The revamp of The Tavern's Patreon is going well. I'd like to send personal thanks out to:

Anthony C, Sam C, and Laramie W

Yourselves and those like you are huge assets to the community and I personally really appreciate it. Every backer helps me do more of the things I enjoy doing for the community and hopefully everyone benefits.

We are 11 patrons away from adding a monthly Tavern Chat session on the Discord Server that should better align timewise with community members across the pond or even the other side of the world. This would be in addition to the weekly chats on Wednesday nights.

We do have a bit to go to get to where we can set up and run an online OSR gaming con, but we'll get there ;)

As an aside, i may put the extra money to buying a new desk chair - i've heard the jokes that my chair is my plus one on the podcast and the weekly chats and may need to address it sooner than later ;P

The Tavern's Patreon has been Updated - Erik Tenkar is creating Old School Gaming News and Community Building

Yep, the overhaul of The Tavern's Patreon was long overdue, as The Tavern is not about content creation (though there is some of that). Instead, it's about gaming news and community. The community that has formed at The Tavern in its various forms it what keeps me doing "this" (whatever "this" is) every day and I enjoy every moment of it.

What follows is the support levels and goals (goals are no longer based on monies pledged but the number of backers, a much better fit for The Tavern):
Tip Your Bartender
$1.50 or more per month
A hearty tip for your bartender! I thank you! The community thanks you.
Backer Blog Roll
$3 or more per month
Backer Blog Roll - If you are a blogger and back at this level, I'll highlight your blog on a special Backer Blog Roll.
Discord Patreons
$4.50 or more per month
You'll have a special title and color on the Tenkar's Tavern Discord Server telling the community your are a backer of Tenkar's Tavern. Additional benefit is a position on the Backer Blog Roll
Let's Talk
$10 or more per month
A private weekly voice chat with members of the Let's Talk level or higher. Day of week and time will be announced prior to the chat. We will use Discord. Length of Chat 30 minutes plus. Includes Discord rewards
Royalty
$20 or more per month
Your are Royalty. Suggest a topic(s) for the daily podcast and I'll try and get it done. Includes benefits of all prior level Includes Discrd rewards.
Patreon of the Podcast
$25 or more per month
Sponsor the Tavern Chat Podcast for a week. Get a mention at the beginning of the episode as a sponsor and get a link on the blog post sharing the episode. Additionally, all bonuses from prior levels apply. Includes Discord rewards.
As for goals:
When we hit 25 supporters a month, a minimum of 5% of the monies raised will be Kicked Forward to other RPG related gaming projects on Patreon. - Reached
When we hit 50 supporters a month, I'll add a monthly "off hours Tavern Chat" on the Discord Server to accommodate members of the community from across the pond.
When we hit 100 supporters a month, Feltothraxis, the infamous Dragon Puppet known for knocking a certain well known OSR product off of a porch would return in a series of videos if this goal is met. All hail Feltothraxis!
When we hit 150 supporters a month, I'll organize an informal online old school gaming convention via Discord and Roll20. Run by gamers for gamers. As long as this goal is met, I'll organize such a con once a year.
When we hit 250 supporters a month - If we hit this "unreachable goal", I'll organize an informal online old school gaming convention via Discord and Roll20 four times a year - once per season. Run by gamers for gamers. As long as this goal is met, I'll organize such a con once a season. Additionally, I'll run at least one session each time for backers of The Tavern.
Personally, I really want to see TenCon or Tavern Con, so 150 supporters is the level where I get dreamy eyed.

For the goals, its not dollars but supporters. Your buck-fifty carries as much weight as someone sponsoring the podcast.

The Tavern in all of its forms - the blog, the Facebook Community, the Discord Server and the daily Tavern Chat podcast, will always be free and The Tavern will remain a Neutral Ground.

There is no obligation. If you can support, great. If you can't, that's fine too. Above all, enjoy and participate and make it yours.

Uncle Matt's D&D Studio and Jordoba Livestream Patreons are Looking for Backers - Join the Cool Kids

+Matt Finch has two Patreons - one for Uncle Matt's D&D Studio and another for his Jordoba livestreams. If you like interviews with creatives in the Old School Gaming community and beyond in addition to game theory, Uncle Matt's D&D Studio is an easy choice to back. Interested in livestreamed RPG sessions with a unique camera perspective? You probably want to back Jordoba. I've got them both covered with a $35 monthly pledge ;)

Below is an explanation by Matt as to the current plans for both Patreons:
I'm trying to round up a few more patrons for the patreons at patreon.com/Jordoba (the games) and patreon.com/unclematt (the channel and website) because I'm going to do another patrons-only livestream on Friday. As an example of communication with the patrons, here is the most recent post made to the channel's patreon forum:
For the first post on the Uncle Matt's D&D Studio patreon, first of all, thank you for your help in keeping the channel on the air!
This is my to-do list for this week on the channel's behalf, and it's kind of an aspirational set of goals, but probably workable.
Today (Wed): I am editing three of the game videos for sound quality and to remove long pauses from the livestream versions. Then uploading them, which is a long process. One of the things all of you have helped to fund is a faster bandwidth for the studio's modem, which is pretty important not only for uploading these videos (an hours-long process) but also for reducing sound and video glitches when recording interviews in a Google hangout. This is a monthly cost that I couldn't have incurred without your help.
I also plan on running a Patron-only livestream on Friday for all of you to advise me and give me feedback on the channel's quality, which means that I'm going to start a bit of a drive for new patrons today so I can have as many people as possible joined up by the time of the livestream.
Thursday: I'm recording an interview with Bill Silvey for the next Thursday conversation on Uncle Matt's D&D Neighborhood, I'm releasing the conversation with Skeeter, and I'll be organizing the publication side of the project so I can begin to put pdfs in your hands and also to start up the project's publishing page. I'll also be updating the Episode Guides on the website, which I can't finish until I've uploaded the edited videos (Wednesday's job).
Friday: I'll run the patron-only livestream and hopefully I'll be able to post up some pdf resources if I'm caught up with Thursday's goal.
Saturday is usually terrain day, since I try to have at least one "signal" piece of terrain made for each game, whether that's a statue or a distinct wall, or a scary door. These are great because they GET Skeeter every single time, and I love the reactions.
Sunday: Same as Saturday because usually I spend time with Ian Finch on one day or the other.
Monday and Tuesday: final prep for the games and run the games.
So that's the plan! In order to get as many people onto the Friday patron-only livestream, it would be great if all of you could share around your opinions about the Patreon so far. People may not realize how much I depend on patrons for advice, and how much it costs - in addition to the monthly bandwidth increase I've just bought a 3D printer to make more stable snap-together terrain for the games, I bought a piece of art to use in videos, and we've always got the cost of the server for the website.

Weekend Wonders - Necromancer's Dagger (Swords & Wizardry Light)

Necromancer's Dagger - This dagger is made of a black metal with a carved ivory skull serving as its pommel. In the hands of anyone other than a necromancer it is a simple + 1 dagger. In the hands of a necromancer, it has the following additional abilities: + 2 to all turning / control undead attempts; may attempt to permanently control one undead (only one may be permanently controlled at a time.) Undead must have no more hit dice than half the level of the necromancer in question. Note, the possessor of a Necromancer's Dagger no longer gains hit points from rest. These life energies are instead funneled to the dagger. The possessor can still be healed via magical means.

OGL

Note - Necromancer is an optional character class in Swords & Wizardry Continual Light. The beta rules are available at The Tavern's Discord Server, pinned in the swords-wizardry-light channel.

Thanks to The Tavern's supporters at both The Tavern's Patreon and directly through Paypal, we have a monthly backing of over $150. This means 4 to 5 monsters for Swords & Wizardry Light / OSR per month, 4 to 5 Swords & Wizardry Light / OSR magic items per month AND backers at $1.50 a month or higher via Patreon will get a collected PDF of the prior month's releases emailed to them. Paypal backers will need to email me in the middle of October to receive theirs. This is the first release for the month of October.

We'll be Using Dyson's Serzen's Seven Stairs map for the October Tavern Adventure

The people have spoken. As has +Dyson Logos : "SOMEONE needs to do something cool with Serzen's Seven Stairs because it is such a "crazy fantasy dungeon" style map." I will attempt to do something cool ;)

A few quick notes:

If you only have the ability to back one RPG related Patreon I implore you to back Dyson's. For as little as 50 cents a map you are supporting a creator that has released dozens of professional drawn maps for free commercial use. That's the resources I'm using here.

Supporting the The Tavern via Patreon or Paypal subscription allows me to put time aside to create weekly monsters and magic items for Swords & Wizardry Light (and other OSR games) and post them for free at The Tavern. Purchases made via The Tavern's RPGNow affiliate links are funding the free adventure for the month of October (we had a goal to raise $300 in affiliate monies and we did) Half the monies raised for the rest of the month are going towards art purchases - commissioned and / or stock art.

Notice the top of the map? That certainly looks like a dragon's head. I wouldn't mind commissioning a pencil / ink drawing of a party of adventurers entering the dragon's mouth. Art budget is probably going to come in between 60 and 75 bucks (currently sitting at 40), which is less than I would like so I may dig into the till. We'll see.

I'm pretty damn excited to be doing this if you couldn't tell. Heh!

In any case, this was all funded by you, Thew Tavern's Readers. Thank you :)

Weekend Wonders - Ring of the Forgotten Man (Swords & Wizardry Light / OSR)

Ring of the Forgotten Man - This ring is a favorite of pickpockets and other ne-er-do-wells. When worn, the ring allows one to change their facial appearance, once per round, for up to sixty minutes. Note, hair color and style, height, weight, clothing, etc do not change. The Ring of the Forgotten Man just changes facial appearance, but that can change racial features (human to half orc, half orc, orc, etc - any humanoid) as well as add / remove beards, scars, birthmarks, change eye color, shape of nose and the like. There is a 1% cumulative change per use that the last facial change of that usage will become the new normal facial appearance of the user. The ring ceases to function as a magic ring should this happen. There is no save against this effect.

Note - The pictured ring is from the Publisher's Choice Quality Stock Art Collection Copyright Rick Hershey / Fat Goblin Games.

Yep, that's an affiliate link above. Rick offers some high quality stock art. Purchases made via The Tavern's affiliate links help support The Tavern

Just a reminder - Through Dungeons Deeper: A Survival Guide For Dungeoneers As Written By A Survivor released today. If you go to The Tavern post that announces the release, you will find a discounted link to save you 3 bucks off the regular PDF price.

Changes to The Tavern's Patreon and other Funding Goals / Rewards

Well, its been a few weeks in the making but The Tavern has tweaked its funding goals over on The Tavern's Patreon. Currently the Patreon is at $115 a month.

  • At the $100 level, you get a monster for Swords & Wizardry Light once a week, posted at The Tavern - Midweek Monster Mayhem - We are there :)
  • At the $125 level, you get a magic item for Swords & Wizardry Light once a week posted at The Tavern. We are almost there and I've been posting them even though we have been short - Weekend Wonders.
Further goals include:
  • $150 - Compiling the weekly entries into monthly PDFs and emailing copies to all backers at $1.50 or higher
  • $175 - Increase the monsters to twice a week.
  • $200 - That good old OSROnline Con using Discord and Roll20 (and maybe Fantasy Grounds)
  • $225 - Increase the magic items to twice a week.

Additionally, there are other funding goals as The Tavern is also funded in other manners. Each month The Tavern raises $300 or more in RPGNow affiliate monies, I'll write a small adventure for SWL and post it at The Tavern. The Tavern is currently funded at $242 for the month of September.

If the total of all monies raised is $500 or more in a given month (Patreon, RPGNow affiliate, Amazon Affiliate and Adsense) I'll stat out a "drop and play" NPC for SWL, complete with background, motivations and adventure seeds)

I appreciate all of the support The Tavern receives from readers like you. Thank you all.

This Week will Kick Off the new Midweek Monster Mayhem Series of Posts

Theodor Kittelsen, Public Domain

This week The Tavern will be launching a new regular feature - Midweek Monster Mayhem. Similar in a way to the just launched Weekend Wonders (which covers magic, spells and magic items) Midweek Monster Mayhem will see a new monster for Swords & Wizardry in Light and / or Complete formats. I'll be adjusting The Tavern's Patreon later this week to reflect these changes. All Patreon backers will get these monsters compiled in PDF format and emailed to them in the following month of their release. Print copies will go out quarterly to those that back at $10 or more.

If we get enough overall backing, we may see two Weekend Wonder releases and Two Midweek Monster Mayhem releases on a weekly basis. Then there is that online OSR Con that has been talked about. All hail The Tavern's Discord Server :)

State of The Tavern - The Times, They Are A-Changing

The summer is wrapping up and there are a few changes in store for The Tavern and its Tavern Master.

First and foremost, Rach and I WILL NOT be at Gamehole this year as previously planned. Rach is looking at surgery later this month / early next month and there are simply too many balls in play to make it work this year. We will be at OSRWARP in February and I will be at Gary Con in March.

The Tavern's Patreon is going to have some changes, including affordable support levels for monthly Swords & Wizardry Light Pick up Games via The Tavern's new Discord Server / Roll20 and goals that include SWL content on a weekly (or more frequent basis) at The Tavern and gathered in PDF format quarterly for free in PDF to all backers and in print at a certain backing level (pieces may also make it into the Torchlight magazine.) Possibly adding a second Tavern Chat per week at a staggered time and day of the week to accommodate our members overseas and / or working off hours.  Oh, and organizing an OSR Online Game Day / Con. Relaxed atmosphere and probably disorganized but 100% Tenkar's Tavern ;) More details in a later post.

When I return from the extended weekend away in the Pocono Mountains Zach Glazer is going to put me through an InDesign crash course - recorded live for your entertainment and education. At which point Swords & Wizardry Continual Light gets laid out.

Remember, you can grab the Beta of SWCL in The Tavern's Swords & Wizardry Light Discord Channel.

S&W Light Micro-Adventure - Born as Two, Die as One - Tim Shorts - Patreon

I've been supporting +Tim Shorts Patreon since... forever. Tim does excellent adventures with full color maps (often laminated) that are prefect for dropping into your campaign.

Since December of last year, Tim has been writing his adventures using Swords & Wizardry Light as the ruleset of choice (Tim - I have an update to SWCL - drop me a message and I'll send to you)

Its really exciting watching the ruleset you authored get used in someone else's projects.

Above is a pic of Tim's latest. Just got it in the mail a few minutes ago. It feels like Christmas :)

Check out Tim's Patreon - you won't be disappointed.

edit - damn keyboard always wants to spell out "Time Shorts"

Patreon - James Spahn is Creating Old School Roleplaying Games

You know +James Spahn I hope. The man behind White Star, the various White Box supplements and of course more Labyrinth Lord classes than you can shake a stick at. He's also a co-conspirator on Swords & Wizardry Light.

I'll bet you didn't know James has a Patreon Page.

Backing James via his Patreon really is the best way to get sneak peeks of some of his upcoming projects (and he has some nice ones in the works - but I'm sworn to secrecy)

Personally, I think Arcane Trickster is the sweet spot.

If you back for $20, James will run a game for backers at that level once a month on a Saturday evening (Eastern Time) using his White Star rules via Roll20. Most likely you'll be playtesting new material and, as such, be given playtester credit. Now, James doesn't know this part yet - but I volunteer to assist, fill in for an empty seat or roleplay NPCs if James requests. Not sure if that's a boon or a curse. James will need to decide ;)

Patreon - Nomad Gaming is creating System-Neutral Standalone Fantasy Adventures (RPG)

As I sit here during the halftime of the Giants - Bears game, it occurred to me that I haven't highlighted Nomad Gaming's Patreon project.

Nomad gaming does short, system neutral adventures that simply scream to be used with Swords & Wizardry Light, as they are nice and compact and you'll be ready to run one after about 15-20 minutes of reading (and possibly rereading)

+Thom Wilson (the man behind the project) is also one of the first creators in the community to really get exciting about what SWL brings t the gaming community - a nice, compact old school ruleset perfect for con plan or campaign play. It just happens that Thom writes really nice bite sized adventures, so one goes very will with the other.

You can drop Thom's adventures / encounters into your campaign as needed, between adventures or smack in the middle of one.

You can back for as little as a buck a month, but at a buck-fity you get 1 or 2 adventures / encounters every month. I'm in at a buck-fity :)

Dyson is now up to 74 Free Commercial Use Maps - Go Patreon!

The latest Free Commercial Use Map, a classic from 2013

+Dyson Logos mentioned this on Facebook, but I thought I'd spread the word. Thanks to Dyson's Patreon supporters, there are now 74 Dyson drawn maps available for free commercial use. Did I mention there are more maps added every month?

Dyson is one of the most skilled and most prolific mappers in the gaming community, and the idea that publishers can use a selection of his creations for free in their commercial projects is nothing short of amazing.

I've already got 2 of Dyson's maps pegged for use in a current project.

Here's the link to the free commercial use maps. If you're just using for personal use, he has hundreds more.

You have no excuse. Stat out a dungeon now!  ;)

The Future of Old School Quarterly - The Future is Now

Regular readers of The Tavern shouldn't be surprised I've been closely following the progress of Old School Quarterly. It's a project that is close to my heart as I'm supposed to supply +Jason Paul McCartan with a series of Kickstarter related articles. Alas, my work schedule was preventing such from bearing fruit and Jason had a series of events on his side that slowed progress on OSQ but now the planets have aligned, signs and portents have been interpreted and the wind is blowing from the proper direction.

What I'm saying is, OSQ is a "thing".

Fuck it, let me just quote Jason - and go to the Original Post at OldSchoolQuarterly to get the pretty post will all the snazzy links and pics.

So, it’s about time that we updated everyone on what’s happening with OSQ, because we’ve been far too silent on the subject (mostly because we’ve been getting everything all sorted out and making it right – this takes time).

Over the past year there’s been some illness and a bunch of other things going on, including InfiniBadger Press, the publisher of OSQ evolving into the next phase of its growth. We also dropped the ball on the original release plans for OSQ due to scheduling issues and a number of other things. Mea culpa.

The time wasn’t right for OSQ to really be developed and released.

The time is right now, though.

So, what’s changed?

Well, for starters, there really is no other ongoing magazine publication catering to the old school gaming community any more, as Gygax Magazine ceased publishing back in January. This leaves an opportunity to step up and take its place and fill the gap. There’s a huge zine movement for other games, but there’s no real magazine-style publication that caters to multiple games at the same time available right now. There have been plenty of other publications that have also ceased publishing or reduced publishing over the past few years.

Secondly, our short term and long term business operations and objectives are now established and aligned. Most small businesses survive their first two years of business and about half make it to the five year mark, but a lot of that depends on the individual industry. InfiniBadger Press has been operational for about two years now and has been mildly successful. It’s now time to develop and grow the business, and a multi-year roadmap has been put together to develop a number of unique properties, including this magazine. The waters have been tested, and we know a little about what we want to create and what sells, and how to connect both.

Thirdly, the use of crowdfunding has been shown to be a great way to help support and grow small creators and companies and help them get their products created and released. After some analysis about how best to use this approach, the best way forward to help support the ongoing publication of a quarterly publication is through Patreon, and so, we’ve decided to launch a Patreon campaign to help support the magazine!

The magazine will still use advertising to help support it as well as post-release sales online (here at the OSQ website and many other online stores) and in retail, but the Patreon allows us to offer a more modern take on being a magazine subscriber:

YOU get to choose how long to be a “subscriber”: 1 issue, 2 issues, or more! Simply pledge during the periods you want

Get your digital edition from three different locations:
-the OSQ website
-OneBookShelf’s family of websites
-the InfiniBadger Press website

Get large discounts on the digital and at-cost POD versions of each issue
-$6 for the PDF instead of the final MSRP of  $9.99
-$12 for the at-cost POD instead of the final MSRP of $19.99. Get a code and buy the physical copy when you’re ready at cost

Upgrade to the POD version at a discounted rate later if you just get the PDF for one issue
Get an additional 36 page supplemental publication called OSQ MORE that’s ONLY available to Patreon backers every issue

Of course, OSQ is still going to be doing things differently from the way traditional magazines do things. Most traditional magazines focus on print first, then digital, most often only printing in specific territories and costing a great deal to ship beyond that overseas. We’re focusing on digital first, then print using POD, allowing you to choose how to receive print copies of the magazine, if you even want to do that – using POD means being able to print near to where you live, and help keep costs down on international shipping. This approach can be called “just in time” printing, because you don’t print it until you want it or need it. By being a “subscriber” through the Patreon, you can even save yourself some money doing that!

Right now we’re updating a couple of the documents and pages including the Issue Zero page,  Submissions Guidelines and the Advertising Kit to include details of the Patreon and the new operations. We’re also setting up our online webstore, where you’ll be able to purchase digital versions of the magazine, as well as be directed out to other sites where you can buy that same issue, such as OneBookShelf, Lulu, and CreateSpace, allowing you to choose where YOU want to receive your digital or print issues from.

The plan is to release the OSQ Issue Zero in Fall 2016, which means an October 2016 release date. We’ll release an issue every quarter after that, with the support of the Patreon, advertisers, and sales of individual issues.

Of course, there are challenges ahead. A lot of business people say that’s magazines are dying because we’re looking at our phones, while a lot of other smart business people say that the publishing paradigm has changed and that we’re in a period of disruption. This means new business models and changes in the way things are done. It means trying out new ways to do things that are customer-centric and innovative. Even when focusing on old school games.

More news and regular updates to come soon. We’ll keep you posted right here at the OSQ blog.

Oh, and consider becoming a patron at Patreon if you want the best deal possible on the upcoming Issue Zero release. You save money, you get extra content, and you don’t have to pay anything until the issue gets released!

Holy bejeezus but +Jason Paul McCartan has a lotta links in there. I'll make it simple for ya'.

Pepper & Carrot - Free Webcomic / Patreon Funded / CC Licensed - and It is Awesome!

Pepper & Carrot was brought to my attention due to a Kickstarter project that is unaffiliated with the author / artist but is using the CC 3.0 (should be using 4.0 according to the Pepper & Carrot website) license to product a collected volume in print and PDF. I'd say the Pepper & Carrot Kickstarter isn't on firm grounds charging for a PDF of material that is already free digitally, but that isn't my battle.

Instead, I'm here to mention the author's (David Revoy's) Patreon for Pepper & Carrot. Why, you may ask? Look at the artwork above. If that doesn't just scream Old School Dungeons & Dragons I don't know what does.

Is the web comic "cute"? Sure. and not in an overly sweet way. What I've read of the storylines is fun but it's the art that makes me sing it's praises.

See these pieces? Anyone of them could inspire an adventure.

The make me happy. Especially the DragonCow. THAT will be making an appearance in StarSlinger for sure :)

You can support the Patreon for a little as a buck. Under the CC BY 4.0 license, you could use this artwork on your own gaming products. If you plan to, just back the man's Patreon. If you like the art, back his Patron. Screw it, just back it. It's good :)

Patreon Highlight - Genius Loci Games (Johua De Santo)

I've been remiss in highlighting some of the Patreon Projects I support. (Actually, I'm behind in almost everything these days) +Johua De Santo is one of those that get's my backing.

Why?

Because he's consistently putting out small adventures / encounters that are easy to prep and run with short notice. When you have as little free time as I have these days (I'm in the midst of 7 days of overtime in an 8 working day stretch) it's nice to have short pieces, even if it's just to read in the moments between.

These days he's giving away a one-sheet to show the type of adventures his Patreon backers have access to. Just go to Johua's Patreon, download the free adventure and treat yourself. You won't be sorry.

Nap time for the old man before heading to work this evening ;)

More Magnificent Magnusson - Canine Warrior - The Deucheragh

+Jim Magnusson is quite simply amazing. I've got the workup of a new race for Swords & Wizardry bouncing around my head now because of him. All because of the man's Patreon page (when he refers to "The King", that's me ;)

Jim, if you have any more in you, how about a sci-fi outfitted Deuchheragh? (hint hint)
