Faculties & Central Institutes

Bringing together technological and natural scientific expertise on the one hand and theoretical and historical reflection on the other has been the goal of Technische Universität Berlin since 1946. Today, one of the central tasks of the Faculty’s teaching and research is to build bridges between humanities and the educational sciences and the technical and natural sciences.

Faculty II - Mathematics and Natural Sciences – considers itself a key body of TU Berlin. It encompasses the fields of mathematics, physics, and chemistry in both research and teaching. The Faculty offers degree programs reflecting these three fields, each containing features specific to TU Berlin.

All research and teaching in the Faculty primarily focuses on the processes and process chains that are involved in the transformation of materials and energy through physical, chemical and biological reactions The Faculty is recognized nationally and internationally for its exceptional and unparalleled learning opportunities as well as the basic and applied research it conducts.

Health, energy, mobility, communication, security: electrical engineering and computer science are key to these and many other areas of modern everyday life. These disciplines are combined into a single faculty at TU Berlin due to the rich synergies that exist between them and the interdisciplinary opportunities they offer. Without this combination, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and robotics would be inconceivable.

Autonomous driving, Industrialization 4.0, innovative human-machine systems – the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems is dedicated to the development and optimization of technical systems for the current and future needs of society. It offers students four bachelor’s and 13 master’s programs and conducts basic and applied research in more than 500 projects.

Architects, civil engineers, geoscientists, landscape architects, environmental planners and ecologists, sociologists, and urban and regional planners research and work at the Faculty of Planning, Building, and Environment. As a result, the Faculty enjoys an outstanding international profile in planning, building, and spatial sciences. Working together, its members conduct research on the global challenges of urbanization and resource depletion, climate change and adaptation, and digitalization and innovation of planning and building and offer innovative contributions to these challenges.

Faculty VII’s research and teaching focus on essential social challenges, bringing together economics, engineering, and management on the one hand with scientific excellence, decision-making, sustainability, and technology on the other. The Faculty conducts both basic and applied research with a strong practical orientation in six primary fields which are also addressed in its teaching.

The School of Education (SETUB), a central institute at TU Berlin, is responsible for all matters relating to teacher training studies both within the University and beyond. SETUB is the central point of contact and coordinator for the organization and further development of teacher education at TU Berlin. It assists teachers in training with the organization of their studies at the University in order to improve their chances of completing studies successfully.
