I was trying to achieve the same and stumbled into this issue. Since it's still open and looking for solutions, here's the approach I took to 'almost' get it working as I wanted.

We can't simply count the characters of the figurine output because they aren't 'normal' chars but ANSI colored codes. So I went back to figlet to output the same text where I could count the columns. Then we simply output line by line preceding with the required padding.

It's not perfect. In my case graffiti displays different under figlet vs figurine because of smushing which I have to read a bit more to resolve.

Regarding implementing this into figurine. go-figure says it supports figlet files, what I understand it means it doesn't use it internally, so this approach wouldn't directly work. But the general direction is somewhat clear, we need to be able to count the actual chars before they are converted to color codes.
