LineageOS for microG (lineage.microg.org) - LineageOS for microG is LineageOS bundled with microG, which is an open source reimplementation of Google Play Services
License: Apache License 2.0
Why do you think this helps users privacy?: When installing vanilla LineageOS, you are presented with the option to install GApps (Google Apps), which includes Google Play Services, which is an app necessary for many other apps to work properly (such as with push notifications). Google Play Services have built-in tracking, and, from September 2026 onwards, will restrict sideloading (keepandroidopen.org). microG is like an open-source alternative to Google Play Services, it lets the vast majority of apps work properly, has no telemetry and won't restrict sideloading. LineageOS for microG is practically identical to vanilla LineageOS, except that it includes microG and the F-Droid store.
Under what section should this service be listed?: Operating systems > Android > Android-based
Additional comments / info: Keep in mind you can also install microG yourself on newer versions of vanilla LineageOS
