I Voted For Superman (Among Others)

Above, Dean Cain in 2018.

Yesterday, I mailed in my completed ballot for the National Rifle Association's election of their Board of Directors.

The ballot stipulated that up to 25 candidates can be voted for. There was also a by-laws amendment measure on the ballot.

Of the candidates I voted for, actor Dean Cain, formerly of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, was one of them. He was running for re-election to the NRA Board.

Above, the current (March) issue of American Rifleman.

The ballot was included with the current issue of American Rifleman magazine.

Hopefully, once the election is over, the Board can get to the task of straightening out the financial and membership issues left in the wake of Wayne LaPierre's departure.

Bud Light "Worst Party Ever"

Above, Democrats show that they don't know how to hold a beer.

Dean Cain: "Worst party ever."

From Fox News:

Rep. Ted Lieu and his fellow California Democratic leaders posed with bottles of Bud Light to mock conservatives boycotting the company, and the internet roasted them for it.

Lieu posted a photo on Twitter of himself and fellow California Democratic Reps. Mark Takano, Judy Chu, and Adam Schiff drinking bottles of Bud Light, with all of their beer bottles' logos directly facing the camera.

"None of these people hold a beer like they've ever held a beer before," conservative radio host and Townhall columnist Derek Hunter wrote.
"Barf," Rep. John Block, R-N.M., tweeted. "[N]ailing the final nail in the coffin for @budlight trash beer."

The giant Superman mural mounted on the outside of the Super Museum in Metropolis, Illinois is up for auction at eBay. It will be auctioned in three sections. The first section to be auctioned is the panel featuring Dean Cain and George Reeves.

According to Morgan Siebert on Facebook:

There are 3 panels so 3 chances to own a part of Super Museum history. Happy bidding!! This one features Dean Cain and George Reeves.

CBS's "Supergirl"

The premiere of Supergirl on CBS ended a little while ago.

I thought the show went well with plenty of action and humor. Thankfully, it is not campy.

Actress Melissa Benoist (Supergirl/Kara Danvers) is very eye-pleasing and she played the duo roles pretty well.

Calista Flockhart played her bitchy boss quite convincingly.

The special effects for a television show are sometimes a hit or miss. For Supergirl, they more hit than miss.

In the show's scenario, Kara is Kal-El's older cousin sent to Earth after him in a separate rocket from Krypton when the planet was about to explode to protect Kal-El. But, the shock wave from Krypton's explosion sent Kara's rocket into the Phantom Zone. She remained there for years until (and it's unclear how) she broke free of the Zone

Now on Earth, Kara finds herself younger than Kal-El (there's no aging in the Phantom Zone) and she is put into the care of the Danvers, who happen to be former Superman Dean Cain (Lois and Clark) and former Supergirl Helen Slater. Having Cain and Slater was a nice touch.

Unfortunately, criminals from the Phantom Zone were also freed when Kara was and are now on Earth.

The original Supergirl of the Silver Age was Kal-El's younger cousin Kara, who was born and grew up in Argo City, a Kryptonian city that was blown away intact from Krypton's explosion with an air bubble. The ground below Argo City was turned into Kryptonite and Kara' father, Zor-El, saved the city by covering the surface with lead sheeting.

Kara was sent to Earth as Argo City was being hit by meteors that destroyed the protective lead sheeting while she was a teen.

My grade for tonight's show: A.

Thoughts On The Superman Re-Boot

by Armand Vaquer

It will be interesting to see how Brit Henry Cavill (above) fills Superman's red boots in the upcoming Superman re-boot movie.

Will he be able to suppress his British accent enough to convincingly convey that he was raised in the midwestern section of the United States?

To me, for a super-hero movie to work is that the actor has to look and act as if the comic book character stepped out of the pages of the comic and onto the silver screen. In the post-Kirk Alyn era, only George Reeves (left) and Christopher Reeve (below, right) had that quality (although I despise Reeve's Clark Kent portrayal). None of the other Supermen had this quality. Dean Cain didn't look at all like Superman and his costume was wrong (especially the buckle and boots).

Brandon Routh did not convince me that he was Superman (Superboy, maybe). Cavill looks more mature and more like Superman than does Routh, in my opinion. How he handles the role is an open question. We will have to wait and see.

Another thing that would have to happen for me to be convinced that I am watching Superman on screen in the new movie: jettison the Routh Superman costume with that awful collar, dark coloring and those awful Speedo trunks! The costume would have to look more like Christopher Reeve's costume with its bright colors.

Above, Brandon Routh in his awful costume from "Superman Returns."

Will the producers take note? Again we'll have to wait and see.
